To say they had no powers at all seems a little off... i mean, the ability to flatulate on command, aim it, and knock people out, is a little beyond the ordinary. And there is definitely something supernatural about the bowler's ball.

For the record, The Shadow was awesome.

Well, there are superpowers in it. It's just that they're rare, so most superheroes and supervillains don't have any. And not all of them are useful or problem-free(like superstrength that activates when your angry, but it's difficult to get angry enough, or an invisibility power that only works if people aren't looking at you, and that makes all your clothes fall off).

This movie made around 33 million but still a box office failure. It’s still a personal favorite for me.

Howard the Duck came out in '86, 3 years before Michael Keaton's Batman movie so you could say that it was before comic book movies got good and before the first downfall of them.

The Sphinx - his superpower is he is ... super mysterious ^^ love it. And Wes "Magua" Studi ... so funny. But repeated viewings, nah. Its not like Naked Gun which you could watch over and over and laugh. But once or twice...its alright. Casanova Frankenstein ...what a great name btw! Also yeah ...I rather have such a movie than the joyless Nolan-take on Batman...all three of those are ... not very good. Sorry, sacrilege. But true. Play Arkham Games, and see how a modern and still dark Batman should be like ...

You missed the best gag, when they're recruiting new heroes and the two Wonder Woman lookalikes get into a huge catfight and they all just watch. The epitome of why many like superhero comics.

Sorry Guys. Like every other reviewer, you missed the main element: SYMBOLISM!
MYSTERY MEN IS A 'STEALTH MOVIE'!
The movie actually predicts 9-11 and the DOWNFALL OF AMERICA AT THE HANDS OF THE THIRD WORLD. (The Blue Rajah incinerates Captain Amazing.)
Given the sheer number of clues, the film is also an ALLEGORICAL MASTERPIECE.
Here's a basic list of the hidden symbology...
CAPTAIN AMAZING represents AMERICA...(which is controlled by corporations whose logos are all over his suit. His super power is TECHNOLOGY and
his name 'Lance Hunt' means 'Weapon Search'.)
CASANOVA-FRANKENSTEIN represents the VATICAN. CASANOVA (Desire) & FRANKENSTEIN (Fear) equates to religion"s ancient dichotomy between 'Heaven & Hell'.
TONY P represents PROTESTANTS. (Note that Tony P has to be persuaded to join Casanova...or the Vatican).
    TONY C represents CATHOLICS.
DISCO - REPRESENTS ALL RELIGIOUS DENOMINATIONS. (Plus the large Disco Room clock reads 1:19 which is 9-11 backwards)
    RED EYES = COMMUNISM
    MR. FURIOUS = ANGRY YOUTH
THE SHOVELER = THE MIDDLE WORKING CLASS
LUCILLE (THE SHOVELOR'S WIFE) REPRESENTS THE WELFARE STATE.
THE BLUE RAJAH = THE THIRD WORLD ('FORKS' represent Third World Hunger)
THE BLUE RAJAH'S DOMINEERING MOTHER represents THE 'COLONIAL NATIONS' OF EUROPE that dominated THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES LIKE INDIA, SOUTH AFRICA, SOUTH AMERICA, ETC.
    THE BOWLER'S DAUGHTER -
    = FEMINISM
INVISIBLE BOY = CHILDREN and the UNBORN
THE SPHINX = SECRET SOCIETIES (Notice the Masonic 'All-Seeing Eye' on the back of his cape?...)
THE SPLEEN = THE GREAT UNWASHED (SENIOR CITIZENS, THE HANDICAPPED, THE HOMELESS, DRUG ADDICTS, ETC...)
DOCTOR HELLER = SCIENCE (or 'NOUVEAU SCIENCE').
CASANOVA'S GANGS REPRESENT 'THE 7 DEADLY SINS' (PRIDE, LUST, GLUTTONY, ENVY, WRATH, GREED, SLOTH).
PRIDE = THE FRAT BOYS (ELITISTS, THE 1%)
WRATH = THE NOT-SO-GOODY-MOB...AKA- THE RAPPERS (CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS, STREET GANGS, DRUG GANGS).
GREED = THE DISCO BOYS (RELIGIOUS DENOMINATIONS)
LUST = THE FURRIERS (HOLLYWOOD, THE SEX INDUSTRY)
GLUTTONY = THE SUITS (FINANCIAL ORGANIZATIONS, THE BANKING SYSTEM, THE FEDERAL RESERVE )
ENVY = THE SUZIES (THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY).
SLOTH = ANNABELLE LEEK (EUROPEAN ROYAL BLOODLINES, THE WEALTHIEST 1% ).
MONICA THE WAITRESS = FEMALE GENDER / REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS.
OLD SALLY = THE AGING CORPORATE INFRASTRUCTURE.
THE POLICE = MILITARY FORCES AROUND THE WORLD.
TRY-OUT HEROES = FAILED IDEOLOGIES AND RELIGIONS.
PSYCHO FRAKULATOR = CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING.
OLD FOLKS HOME = MASONIC LODGES.
    VICTOR WEEMS = THE MEDIA.
HERKIMER BATTLE JITNEY = NEW TECHNOLOGY COMBINED WITH OLD TECHNOLOGY.
    CHAMPION CITY = THE WORLD
There's far more but you get the idea.

Honestly, when I watched this the first time, I got bored. If you grew up watching the animated show 'The Tick' this was a pale, pale imitation. Now there's a series with fantastic superhero parodies. Mystery men just didn't live up.
