    What quite leaves a sad vibe about all this is knowing for sure that deep down you clearly wanted to have this one restored under your ownership. It didn't do, and perhaps it was for the best to just get rid of that sour taste in your mouth for once. That perhaps it's once again rebuilt, and not just used as a donor instrument to salvage the neck of it!

      Hopefully it gets done proper and the guy sends it back for the review episode it deserves!! A friend of mine plays in the band We Are Wolves which y'all should totally check out and the guitar player plays mostly with a vintage RD. I've always loved this model!!

    • @alabamahebrew
      @alabamahebrew 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While I somewhat agree with you I think it is worth noting that the "luthier" apparently became in bad health and that is why he was unable to finish the work for Austin. Now as for myself, I refinish guitars and customize them, I don't go so far as to call myself a luthier though. In my own shop I would never have done what this guy did. He stripped almost every, if not every guitar Austin sent him, removed the finish, the electronics and all and well that to me shows someone not very organized and not very professional!! I have about 4 stripped and sanded off but they are MY guitars and I work on them as I feel like it. when I work on one for someone else, that guitar gets all my attention until it is completed.

    • @mikefenton5634

      @@alabamahebrew Health troubles or not there is no excuse for not keeping in contact with your client. He or someone acting on his behalf could have easily reached out and explained what the situation was, or sent the guitars back. Sounds to me like he was using he "health issue" as a get out of jail free card. Who's gonna be mad a sick person?
      That said, he stripped the finish and hardware off all of the guitars all at once. That is a big no no in my books, you start and finish one project at a time. That way each one gets your full attention. Parts won't go missing and it wont take years to not finish a single one.

    • @edwhite7475
      @edwhite7475 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alabamahebrew i do the same thing....and i was a finish painter by trade for 35 years.....so i know what im doing.....but a 'luthier' is a different breed....craftsmen, who make their own tools, are the ones ive known all my life...this 'cad' seemed like a pirate, after parts that are irreplaceable, who got in over his head, and then felt guilty years later.

    Love my RD Custom. Bought it new in '77. Gutted it. Wired it like a Les Paul. Added a Fishman Powerbridge (piezo). It is my main guitar (and I own 18). Found out way too late that Rupert Neve designed the electronics. Cool knowledge: The "wing" was designed for seated musicians to rest their arm in a studio. Also designed for fusion jazz players. Pickups are much "hotter" than conventional ones...none of which was told to me by the dealer. It is much longer than a Les. The Maple was chosen for its' stability. The "Ghost" re-issues resurrect the shape only...and nothing else.
