    Here's mine:
    9. The Rise of Skywalker - A mess of a movie that brings back Palpatine in a desparate attempt to create some sort of finality while forgetting that the prequels set up Anakin as the prophesised figure who destroys the Sith, thereby shitting on Lucas's legacy.
    8. The Last Jedi - Good in parts but large parts of the movie are a total waste of time, and Luke is far too inept and teaches Rey no lessons as a Jedi apart from "don't be like Luke", which isn't really good enough of a legacy for the hero of Star Wars.
    7. Attack of the Clones - Some fun set pieces but generally a boring movie with very flat dialogue and performances, not enough reason to invest in the characters, and overreliance on CGI.
    6. The Phantom Menace - Very similar criticisms to AotC but this time with a more fun plot and more practical effects vs CGI.
    5. Revenge of the Sith - The first truly good movie on the list. Very similar problems from the other prequels persist but this one benefits greatly from the elevated sense of mythos and the higher stakes make for some riveting moments. The tragedy in this story sets it apart from the rest of Star Wars.
    4. The Force Awakens - A flawed yet highly enjoyable continuation of the original trilogy that introduced simple yet engaging new characters while respecting the legacy characters and giving them appropriate roles in the story. It set up some intriguing mysteries, it's just unfortunate its sequels went nowhere with them.
    3. Return of the Jedi - The first great movie on the list. Luke's arc concludes perfectly with a beautiful redemption for his father and the Emperor makes for the perfect enemy. Some iconic setpieces throughout, although sometimes there isn't enough for our secondary protagonists Han and Leia to do.
    2. A New Hope - Star Wars. I'm unable to say anything about this movie that hasn't already been said. Amazing.
    1. The Empire Strikes Back - Just about edges out the original by virtue of its hightened drama, greater character depth, the improved spectacle thanks to the bigger budget, perhaps the greatest villain in a movie ever, elevated score, the expansion of the mythos, etc.

Great list! I’m glad you enjoyed The Force Awakens a lot more than I did. I agree about all the plot points set up that were never paid off. Thanks for the comment!

Like your list, and 100% agree with you regarding #1. I watched every movie when each was originally released in theaters, and there has been no experience before or since comparable to seeing that movie for the first time on the big screen.

I'm in agreement with this list 100% with one exception. On my list, Empire leap frogs over RotS and ANH into first place. In my opinion, Empire has the best acting of all nine films, the best scripting and dialog, improved special effects, best of John Williams' epic scores, excellent character development, the best lightsaber duel, and Vader's reveal (especially unspoiled in the theater in 1980) blowing audiences (and my 12-year-old self) away with shock. Every other ranking, however, I'm totally on-board with.

No lie, if I could time travel one time, I would choose to go back to when Empire came out in theaters just to have that experience and see people’s reactions. I was born in the 90s. I do think objectively it is the BEST Star Wars movie, and just narrowly missed being my favorite. The top three I listed are really, really close. Thanks for the comment!

There’s only 6 films in the Skywalker saga. No fan that appreciates the originals to any degree of non-cursory appreciation knows there’s only six films.
The sequel trilogy is for those who now don’t truly care for the franchise, or are casual fans.
Besides Lucas, we decide what is and isn’t canon. Poorly written hate fiction just isn’t relevant.

The least fun thing about making this list was knowing that the sequel trilogy was going to be the bottom three, no matter what. They exist, but yeah they don’t feel like the same universe at all . Thanks for the comment !

@@inarencommander4663 I’m a huge Star Wars fan and I grew up watching these movies I’ve probably seen AotC more than 20 times. It just doesn’t have the sauce. Sure geonosis is fun. But everything before that is a snooze fest. It’s still plagued by the bad looking cgi of the first. The romance is completely unbelievable especially when in the first movie they look like they are 20 years apart in age. It’s not funny ironically or genuinely it’s just boring. Everything good I have to say about this movie is in the last 30mins which is just a huge problem. Personally it’s my 2nd worst after rise of skywalker. There it is not in bullet points.

@@elgirl19 Kamino, Geonosis, Coruscant, and Naboo are some of the nicest looking locations in Star Wars. The Kamino side plot is an amazing part of Palpatine's plan. The romance scenes barely take up a percentage of the movie. Cohesive story and not ruining legacy characters already makes it beat TFA and TLJ. (Not to mention having the best villains in the entire saga.)

    I would say
9 The Last Jedi [for all the damage it caused to every previous and subsequent SW movie/series with its goddamn postmodernist tone]
8 Rise of Skywalker [really bad movie but it had to deal with the TLJ mess]
7 The Force Awakens [it makes an interesting setup but nothing more]
6 Attack of the Clones (somewhat boring, with a bit of weird dialogues in it)
5 The Phantom Menace (besides JarJar, it is a pretty good movie)
4 Return of the Jedi (a good movie, the least good of the OT yet a satisfying one)
3 Revenge of the Sith (a great drama that resembles ancient greek tragedy, only a step away from greatness imho)
2 Empire Strikes Back (perhaps the greatest sequel in history, nothing more to say)
1 A New Hope (the very reason I am SW fan, a self-contained movie, a groundbreaking one in the scifi genre)

    My personal list
    1. Revenge Of The Sith is my personal favorite was at that perfect age about 12 years old saw it in theaters like 6 times
    2. The Empire Strikes Back need I say more best overall movie in the entire saga
    3. A New Hope I was introduced to this movie and franchise when I was 5 years old and watched the originals just before the prequels came out
    4. Return Of The Jedi those last 45 mins is top tier Star Wars
    5. The Force Awakens the only Sequel movie where I don't get depressed lol
    6. The Phantom Menace basically same things that you said about it
    7. Attack Of The Clones not my favorite last 30 mins was good though
    8. The Rise Of Skywalker not very good but despite the controversy Palpatine was the only thing good about it for me Ian McDiarmid killed it again
    9. The Last Jedi didn't have a problem with Luke dying at the end just wish he wasn't portrayed to be the way he was and the fanndom has just been at each other ever since this movie came out
