- The Hyson Music Education Center presents a video on cleaning your brass mouthpiece.
This is an easy maintenance step that will prolong the life of your mouthpiece and prevent the spread of germs and bacteria that can build up inside a mouthpiece.
To perform these steps you need at a minimum a Hyson Music Brass Mouthpiece Brush:

1:21 Rest in peace, countertop.
If you have tarnish on your silver mouthpiece use aluminum foil and baking soda. Fill a container that you can fully submerge your mouthpiece in with boiling water and baking soda(1 gallon of water to 1 cup of baking soda). It should fizz a lot so make sure its over a sink. Then pour that water/baking soda mix into a container that has aluminum foil on the bottom with your mouthpiece on top of the foil(don't wrap it in foil just make sure its touching the mouthpiece). Leave it in for around 10 minutes and you might have to repeat the process if your mouthpiece is severely tarnished. You should end up with a mouthpiece that looks brand new!
2baca neat ! Much love.

At :25 you show the inside of the dirty mouthpiece. It would have been nice to see the same view at the end when it was clean :)

Ricky Matrin poor you, I hope u did well!
It really helped thank you so much.
Im currently trying this on my dad's 30+ year old trombone mouthpiece i was thinking of trying trombone instead of trumpet
I used to wash my mouthpieces when I started playing baritone, then they started to rust.
Yes a baritone player in my band class has a rusty mouthpiece
PaulEffmanMusic I will never throw away my rusty mouthpiece because that is the one my dad used before me so it is a treasure of mine but don’t worry it’s not like I’m using it or anything
Baritone all the way!!
Dishwasher works fine for me!
do you need the spray?
I play the baritone
can i use the silver polish cloth on a stainless steel mouthpiece?
He left the water running :(
Does this work with gold mouthpieces?
whrere can i gey the brush ???
about how much will this all cost?
why must the faucet be open when you're not even using the water? this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine and frankly made it difficult for me to watch the video without freaking out that someone is letting the water run. so wasteful!
Madiana Echavarria sit down
Go practice.
He needed warm water so he probably was waiting for it to warm up, the water sitting in the pipes between the faucet and the hot water heater is gonna have cooled down after all unless something else had also been using the warm water recently.
hanks?
but wont it start to rust?
Connor Creed he answered this in the latest comment above
saved my life lmao
Please don't waste the water, it's a very good video but you don't have to waste water like that
LOL
