    For those who didn’t know, he passed away 2 days later after collapsing... and was diagnosed with Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy a year earlier and wasn’t carefully monitored by anyone from the team or his family. That type of diagnosis typically kills an athlete within a few months to years if not treated properly.

      HCM shows little to no signs and does not result in a heart murmur or arrhythmia, which is what a doctor is checking for when they listen to your heart at your annual physical. The only way to have known that he had HCM prior to his death would be for him to have had an echocardiogram and full work up by a cardiologist, which is not something you do routinely, only if you suspect there is underlying heart disease (such as, a murmur or arrhythmia). Unfortunately people do drop dead from HCM, because again there are little to no clinical signs prior.

    Absolutely ridiculous that none of these so-called medical personnel could tell he had lost a pulse and therefore to start CPR. Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is recoverable but the prognosis is completely based on time from arrest to initiation of high-quality CPR.
    People get better medical attention than this from strangers on the street.

      Paramedic/firefighter here.. What Collin said is correct.. They should’ve realized immediately that the player did not have a pulse. I don’t know if this player survived but if he didn’t, it’s mostly likely because the personnel failed to perform CPR right away.

      Miracles they took way to long. Should’ve checked for a pulse at least and if they had one they’d still get medical personnel, but if he didn’t they better hope they call EMTS in and move their asses quick. Sadly that was not the case and highly unprofessional to me. He didn’t make it and died, I blame the doctors thinking for this death.

    I didn't know the guy died, but as a medical professional i got extremely nervous seeing him laying there immediately. The first thing I'm thinking is, turn over, C grip, check circulation and ventilation (I expect this to be an emergency), basic life support, intubation, monitoring, IV access-->bicarbonate etc, if shockable rythm defib, otherwise atropin bolus, adrenaline etc.... Thats what went through my head in the first 5 seconds watching the video. Instead they need atleast 2minutes to just turn him over. As they say in med school: 1min delay 10% chance of survival gone. WTF With that motivation level please do another job.

Athletic Trainers are responsible for orthopedic treatment and other injuries, so for her to even run out there to try and assist, was highly commendable of her. Only team doctors are authorized to make calls in situations like this, and she was assisting them.
      Again, she went above and beyond. Nobody in this comment section knows the full story of what happened there or after he was taken out, so I’d take it easy. I know the story of course.

      CPR is done if you’re not breathing, not if you can’t find a pulse. Only thing that’ll help if you don’t have a pulse is a defibrillator.

    • @AznIntegra521
      @AznIntegra521 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@PvtGermanWagz ur wrong, when ur heart isnt pumping, ur also not breathing as well. Cpr will help buy u time until a paramedic comes. If ur heart isnt pumping, ur body isnt getting oxygen. By doing cpr, ur manually pumping the heart, the longer u pump the heart the better the chance of survival. I watch a lot of rescue 911 when i was younger, i know what im talking about.
      Besides u cant defibrillate someone if the paramedics isnt there, cpr is use to buy time to keep the person a live as possible until paramedics arrives. Not everyone is going to have a defibrillator handy waiting to use, and depending on where u live it could take minutes before a paramedic arrive, thats y cpr is so crucial.

If you are not medicaly trained, you should check if the patient is uncounscious by asking simple orders such as opening his eyes and check if he is in fact breathing. If he's uncouscious and not breathing, you call for help and start CPR immediately to limit the no-flow. Defribrillator on the other end, won't work if you have an asystolic cardiac rythm only if the patient is in V-fib or ventricular tachycardy. Hank Gathers died three decades ago on the court. You think courtside medics would have learned from this.

    • @scottw6704
      @scottw6704 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Judging by appearances these folks are too young to have been adults during the Gathers thing if they were even alive at all. And they don't need to have some historical moment to know that when there's a medical emergency YOU GO AS FAST AS YOU CAN SAFELY

    Hey wait. I got an idea. Just two thoughts. Well, just a little thinking out loud here but here goes: How about turn him over so you can verify a pulse and respiration and if absent begin CPR.....IMMEDIATELY! Secondly, as you're going to get a stretcher or to the sideline to get a towel, how about move your ass like someone's life depends on it. The casual, walk-in-the-park, nothing-to-see-here approach of these "first responders" is absolutely despicable. Not saying it would have made a difference. But in emergency situations, seconds do matter and so does perception. The perception here is these people genuinely didn't seem to care if this dude died or not.
