Justin Hayward, lead singer, was only 19 when he wrote and composed this. It’s been a top favorite of mine since it was released❤️❤️❤️
He wrote it for a young lady he was in love with. She had no idea. Then later married, and are still married to this day.❤😊

Oh my! His vocals are super amazing
I've seen them 5 times ,3 with a Orchestra backing. Of the nearly 70 or so concerts from many bands, the Concert by The Moody Blues in 2001 at the Paul Mason winery in California is Number 1. Just the band only. small Venue, 2000 attending. I had an 80 year old man to my left an a late teen on my wife's right. We all, (old man and teen too) the whole audience sang every word to every song. Ushers were dancing in the Isles . Showing they cross generations with their music. I still have the Concert Jersey hanging up on display. It doesn't fit anymore me being now 67 which means it will never wear out. ;-) A fan since 1974.
I love The Moody Blues and I never saw this incredible performance before and I'm amazed!! Two other songs to consider are "Never comes the day" and "Legend of a mind" !! I saw them 4 times in the 70's!
Justin Hayward who is singing is an incredibly talented man. Great singer, great songwriter, and an overall great person.
He was and still is my favorite of all time.
Both he and bassist John Lodge wrote the majority of the Moodies best songs.

Most consder this performance to be a Masterpiece.
I bought there first album on LP when it first came out. And every one since. Saw them live at Indianapolis, not sure of the year now, but can look it up. Just almost as good then though a rain and windstorm at this outdoor theater messed with us and we all had to take cover for a bit. They came back of and did a great job. Then about 25 years ago, I converted all my CDs (bought them too) to MP3, and they are on my phone, PC, in my car, etc. I never get over this great music. Also a fan of Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler), Santana, and more.
Also, I think Justin wrote this song when he was like, 19 or so. A forever song.
That was a lovely performance and nice voice.

This is much more recent with them aging gracefully. I once heard that this was written in response to a tragedy in his life regarding his girlfriend. The words are Still sad and haunting....and beautiful. 💕

If you love this song, I recommend to you to get the entire album it is called 'Days of Future Past' Moody Blues on CD The whole album tells a story in music, lyrics and poetry of a typical day from a childs point of view from sun rise, morning, midday, evening, sun set and night The album closes with 'nights in white satin' . This album is for everyone who is young at heart. I was fortunate to see them in concert in Lakeland Florida in 1979. It is one fo the few times where I have seen entire families attend the concert. This is one of my all time favorite albums.

Very haunting gut wrenching song for those that understand the lyrics he is expressing. "Nights in white satin never reaching the end" is reference to the satin sheets she bought him just before she broke it off. "Letters I have written never meaning to send" With 20 versions sitting in the trash he never mails his letter to try and gain her back. Why? "Just what the truth is I can't say anymore" Did she ever really love him? "Gazing at people some hand in hand" seeing others in love only brings back the pain. "Just what I'm going through you can't understand" Unless you have had a broken heart you can't understand. I cry every time I hear this song. I wonder where she is how she is doing. Damn this song all to hell its so beautifully written yet so haunting.

i strongly suggest that you listen to this song in its entirety from the album although the entire album needs to be listened to in 1 session with headphones. if your taken by Justin's voice, i would recommend "Watching and Waiting" or "Are You Sitting Comfortably" as 2 songs that come to mind. loved your reaction and hope to see more Moodies

They have far more than ‘another song’.
They have many great songs.
Nights in White Satin is one of the best but I rate New Horizons, Candle of Life and Watching and Waiting as slightly better.
This song got me the girl I liked. The first song we danced to. I married her and we are still together and still in love. It's our song

If you liked this one, I strongly suggest doing a video for Justin Hayward's Forever Autumn. He's the same singer as in this video, and it's a very emotionally haunting song.

White satin refers to white satin sheets. Satin sheets were popular back then. The singers girlfriend gave him a set as a present.

No they did not. Justin Hayward recorded Forever Autumn as a solo artist. The rest of the Moody Blues were not involved.
By the way the front photo was of the first Moody Blues with Denny Laine and Clint Warwick in the band, before they left and Justin Hayward and John Lodge joined.
Suggest you listen to 'Brothers in Arms' by Dire Straits if you like music that 'moves' your heart and soul'

You should listen to the long recorded version of this song. Make sure it's the LONG version. As good as this live performance is, the recorded version is even better. By the way, I have seen the Moody Blues perform this song live.

Ray Thomas (on the Flute) retired from The Moody Blues in 2002 due to health issues, and passed away in 2018. The same year The Moodies got their LONG OVERDUE induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (But he passed with the full knowledge that they were getting inducted!!!). He, along with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull (whom I'd ALSO like to see some reaction videos for) inspired me to take up the flute!
His voice is NOT talent, it is a gift from GOD! My husband was a professional musician, he had the gift! You're born with it! It's in the blood!
