Kaira's outburst at her family during dinner is such a highlight. Alia played that scene so well - it's really the first time she confronts her family like that and you can see the anger and frustration she carries. When she breaks down at the end telling her childhood story - it always makes me cry. Such a honest, raw performance by Alia and SRK at his charming best! Everyone needs someone like Jug in their life to help them solve their problems :)
I'm glad someone atleast thinks this. I saw the viral reddit post on that stupid BollyBlinds Gossip subreddit about how Alia "stole" this role from Katrina Kaif by "lobbying" for it, and wasn't the "hot Kaira" that the original was supposed to have and I was so damn confused?? like how did alia bhatt do bad in this role??? in fact alia bhatt being in this film made it much better too cuz her romantic pairing with srk is supposed to be awkward!!!!! but yes, she really did a good job.
@@vimalam9820 That "hot" pairing article was apparently a PR stunt by some actresses in the industry to demean Alia. They do a lot of that in that Reddit group if you aren't aware. Hence, the constant hate for Alia there.
Kudos to Gauri Shinde for making this movie. Probably one of the best Indian movies in respect of de-stigmatization of mental health issues and seeking therapy. And very nice reaction and discussion / review by Vivian & Andrew.
The film doesn't take sides. It shows everyone's pains and fears as valid, parent or child. It promotes communication and understanding and forgiveness. It's not flawless but it quite admirable.
If I had a nickel for every time Alia's character had an outburst in front of her family about some events in her childhood, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Have watched this film once a year since it came out. Touched my life, as my mother had died and I was dealing with loss and with some of the confusion Alia's character was going through. So glad you enjoyed it.
i think Vivian should watch another film from this directed called English Vinglish and if andrew also hasn't seen it they should definitely watch it together! Edit: Just saw the update and im glad the watchalong is now up on this channel :)

@@vancedadder You didn't get the meaning behind this comment. Famous doesn't automatically equate to authentic and genuine representation of a gender. People surely loved the characters but if they met Pooh, Geet and Shanaya in real life, they wouldn't spend more than half an hour with them.

This was not a flop. Made on a budget of 30 crores It grossed 135 crores worldwide. That's good for the topic of the movie and the audience it was targeting.
If a film earns less doesn't mean it's not good. This movie is absolutely brilliant- the writing, acting everything. It's just that Indian audience leans more towards action, masala romance movies rather than movies with actually good plotline
Fun fact: I emailed SRK’s pr team after this movie saying how big of a fan I am of Srk and wanted to meet him and they arranged a meet with him for me. Love you SRK ❤

As great as this film is.. real life therapy is nothing like what's shown in the film. Movies have over glamorized and romanticized depression, anxiety and therapy. None of these things are 'poetic' or 'cool' as many might think. Mental Health is a dead serious subject (which this movie dealt with greatly.. but also in a very theatrical manner).
Depends who your therapist is, I have been through some therapies, and met different therapists, my last therapist was bang on, and she helped me a lot. This movie is sort of therapy too.
You need to understand that India then wasn't ready or literate enough to talk about mental health. So the movie's job was not to depict the accuracy or clinical method of therapy. The movie's job was to normalize going to therapists and educate people that mental health issues are imp, and it doesn't mean the person is crazy. This movie did that perfectly. Also, SRK cast in this Character was perfect and as the character said in the movie he wasn't following the traditional method but SRK did his job to atleast start the dialogue around mental health in the regular house holds.he has that impact on people where if he says something people listen and that is exactly what this movie needed
It’s a beautiful movie. It is self reflective and self therapeutic, takes you through a journey. A lot of healing could be done if you play your life through protagonist journey. I loved the reaction because it deeply came from Vivian and Andrew’s heart. Awesome humans. Genuine reaction. Vivan connecting the movie to her experiences and Andrew sharing deeply felt thoughtful reaction was wholesome. I have watched the movie before but your reaction came as a recap for me at the right moment in my life. Cheers and I hope you see this comment and it makes you smile :)
Idk if u both guys have visited Eva goa... If u would love to den please do because it's my home town and I would love to invite you in our beautiful state.... 🔥
Unpopular opinion but besides the aesthetic, I HATED the movie. Kaira's story would have been way different had she not been that pretty, or was financially insecure, or didn't have perfect best friend, or couldn't work a career she wanted, or didn't have the very usual flawed parents yet very unusually supportive ones, or hadn't dated only the greatest guys ever, or couldn't find the BEST therapist ever!! Kaira is the luckiest person I have ever seen. I just could not feel bad for her. She was just a walking disaster, ruining people's lives with no remorse. The story also would have been different if it was a man. But that would sound triggering to many. So, all the girls/guys who discounted their blunders under Kaira's shadow and got rid of their guilts, wake up, you are neither that lucky nor is this world revolving around you. Be responsible for your actions!
We know. They're not the 'doctor' doctors. We still refer to them as doctors bcs at the end of the day they're treating and healing us. And on the other spectrum of things there also are people who confuse psychatrists w psychologists. THAT we'll blame on little to no education being provided on mental health 🥲
I could use srk as my therapist for real! Anything he says in that deep voice is gonna be my new life motto

They might have already watched the original one of Gully Boy, so what is the point of watching a unofficially remake of it
