To be honest the look of this car is amazing. I love the compact, perfect proportions, the blocky dashboard, the cute little engine and everything.
If a carmaker tried to make cars in this style but with modern engines and better safety I would be all over it.

I own one of these in blue, it looks pretty spectacular (mine has a custom interior based on the original with blue suede and vinyl and louvres on the rear window and stuff) we added bigger wheels and some really good tires to it and it corners pretty well now, I wouldn't even say it's super slow with 50bhp, the thing only weighs 650 kilos, so it gets off the line pretty fast, it's really a blast to drive

A friend of mine used to have one, many years ago.. i remember how fun it was, although very old and with rusty holes on the floor (you could see the road underneath). I could barely fit in there, and generally it felt so insecure, but when we got it in random empty fields just to drift it, it was like being in a huge RC toy. Really fun

I live in New Zealand where 40 of these great little cars were imported to, and OWN a "Full Spec" CX-G which is NUMBER 27 off the production line. Unlike England, Australia, Iceland and The Netherlands, the 40 cars imported into New Zealand were the same as the JDM cars, and as such, retained the same frontal treatment. Instead of Square Headlights and the indicators mounted in the grill, the New Zealand cars had round headlights, the indicators wee mounted under the front bumper, and where the indicators were mounted in the Wizz Kid, there were a set of spot/driving lights. The car I own also differs in the interior trim, as, being a "Cross-Over" car, it has Tombstone style front seats, trimmed in a red and black hounds tooth design, and where you sit is made of cloth rather than Vynle? As these cars were prone to rust, and not designed to last any great length of time, and given the low production number on my car, it's Highly Possible that I own the earliest surviving example anywhere worldwide? The car is in completely original, un restored condition, with a Genuine 72,000 kilometers on it. I drive it most days, and it always puts a smile on my face. As to it's value, who knows?

I live in New Zealand, and two weeks ago, I bought an Immaculate 63,000ks (39,000 Mile) example of one of these cars. It's slightly different in the front body trim, with Round Headlights, and Spotlights where the Indicators are in the front of this car, but mechanically it's identical. Contrary to what the road tester says here, it handles remarkably well, in that it can be chucked into a corner, where it hangs on like it's on rails. The most I have gotten mine to do is lift the inside rear wheel, but other than that. it's great fun, in an under powered light weight small car can be. To hear the prices they are fetching excites me, as I paid the equivilent of around two and a half thousand pounds for mine, and it's in amazing order for a 39 year old motor car. Putting a Hayabusa motor in it has crossed my mind, but it's to nice and to rare to butcher it in such a way.

In the snow it was the only car i have ever owned that overtakes Landrovers when they are stuck in knee high snow.I drove it up to Scothland non stop 300 miles and on the way back coming down a hill in the Shap it topped out at nearly 100 mph.i loved this car until one day it wouldn't stop at a cross road and i hit another car.it was written off and then repaired but still had a ripple in the roof from the impact.oh cars in those days were so much fun.it didn't kill me though.and yes i am still alive.

In the US, the Toyota Corona was one of the first warning signs that middle-of-the-road cars were going to be changing in a big way. I guess this was the first warning sign in the UK that the odd, tiny sports cars the UK was known for were going to be getting some capable competition.

They certainly weren't no competition in terms of performance 😅 even the 970cc version was not much better

you'll get squashed like a bug if you get in any kind of accident in that thing, a very comforting feeling when going over the highway i assume.

cool...........I remember my aunt had a RWD tercel in the Caribbean. She drove that car at 100% all the time on bald tires. My fist experience in a drifting drive along.

The one mirror is because it was in these times only a drivers side mirror was mandatory. A mirror on the passengers side was luxury. 😃

Had 3 of these back in the early 90's, great fun, one ate rear driveshafts for some reason, did good handbrake turns,
One was that rusty brown colour & we called it the "crabber" because it crabbed (wheels not in alignment) were going rusty back then though.
    Bloody excellent cars though.

Looks like a neat little car I've never heard of... Id LOVE to see one hopped up and done right. Even if its not a screamer (or even a real performer by any standard) its cool looking and unique (maybe? We certainly never got them in the USDM). What a cool little car.

Try a Daewoo Tico. 4 doors and fwd. Loads of fun with that car. Dirt cheap, easy to repair and a lot for sale.

I remember this one. It was cheap and very well received by the automotive press at the time. It rusted like hell, but I really liked it. Standard MW radio for no money. Gauges, rpm counter, rear engine, wow. Cheap! And Japanese (so reliable). Don't crash it, because you will die. And don't go into modern day towns because of exhaust emissions. And oh, 12 inch tyres, good luck finding them.

I dropped a Chevy big block in my whizzkid and turbo charged it. Also got some sweet suspension and brakes. Lifted it and put rally tires and lights on it.
