Some of the nicest cats I have had were males. My last male greeted every guest at the door and would sit at the guest's feet and look up until it felt properly acknowledged.
For the most of my life I had male cats and since we lived in the countryside, they were roaming around and neither of them were fixed. They were the most loving cats vs females. When we moved to a city, we got a female cat and had her fixed. She was strictly an indoor cat. She had a very serious character, hated nearly every visitor we had with extremely rare exceptions of 2 people in her 13 year life span (she died 2 months ago from cancer). Since she had quite an angry personality, we got a male cat this time, fixed. Oh boy he is crazy! We start our morning by collecting items of his size and smaller all over the house. I must say he is too playful. Kicks everything off of every surface, jumps all over us, harassing and abusing our 110 lb 4yo dog. He is very demanding. But at the same time he is very affectionate. Our female cat has never been like this. If he decided to get on your laps for some love time, you have no option to refuse. He is like a bull that keeps coming and coming at you to hug and lick you to death. Especially in the middle of the night when you are trying to sleep, tickling you with his enormous whiskers lol. He is a lot of fun and also quite a handful. Destroyed all of the house plants and curtains, constantly chewing on wires. We are scared to leave him unattended when going to work.
@@annapatton4544 the cats who lived outside were in their natural environment. They were happy. Maybe your indoor female cat was wise enough to know that she didn’t belong indoors, and it out her in a bad mood. Maybe you boy cat isn’t smart enough to know he’s a prisoner of another species? I feel sorry for cats and dogs, even though I loooove them. I feel sorry for them, because they don’t belong indoors. They have such amazing potential that is wasted by living indoors. And so many of them are alone so much time, imprisoned, waiting for their human being to come home. These are amazing creatures, and they belong in the wild. Human beings are so dysfunctional, and we imprison these animals to help us deal with our own loneliness, we use them as a form of therapy.
True but in all fairness we humans imprison ourselves in the electronic prison and corporations sitting on chairs for 8hrs. That is also very unnatural to us.
I had a boy. He wasn't too affectionate. However, I loved him very much anyway. He was neutered. He loved to sleep next to me during the summer and on top of me during the winter. He let me pet him all I wanted, while sleeping. I miss him a lot😢❤
An orange cat was born into my life and stayed with me for 21 years. Stevie (he liked this name) was NOT broken so he didn't need fixing. Stevie lived indoors with me his whole life and had an about 50 word vocabalaric understanding. He also did many "tricks" at my request. Stevie's main mission in life seemed to be being availabe to me for snuggling and socialising with other people and animals, even large dogs. Stevie was amazing!
You were a lucky person to have such a long time with your cat. I, too, have a male cat named Kimba. He is a tabby mix and is a blast. This is the first male cat i've ever had and he loves to rough house and box with me.
@@Vespyr_I don’t think it’s related. I’ve heard of more health (and behavioral) problems related to cats not being fixed than those of cats being fixed.
My neighbor had a male cat and he would often come back home battered and bruised. We just assumed he fought other cats but one time we caught him fighting a racoon. He won that fight.
Wow, your neighbor's cat sounds like a real tough guy! It's impressive that he won a fight against a raccoon. Cats can be surprisingly fierce when they want to be.
@@rebeltvr6046 maybe but like I mentioned before my neighbor's cat, which by the way I forgot to mention his name; Smokie, was abnormally big. He was heavy too for a cat but wasn't at all fat.
I've always had male cats until I got Desi a few years ago. She's by far the most affectionate cat I've ever known. She's a lap cat and she loves to be cuddled and held like a baby.
My female cat was definitely more elegant than the male one. For example, when she sat, her two front legs stayed together nicely, while the male pal always kept them apart like human men 😂 and she was far more hygienic
Same here. I have a male and female from the same litter. He's very boisterous and doesn't really groom himself much. She's laid back, grooms herself a lot, and even tries to groom him (with varying levels of success).
I had 3 female cats growing up and they all hated each other, I now have 2 male cats and they are best buddies literally sleep on top of each other and clean each other everyday.
I have 2 female sister cats who couldn't be more different from each other. One is playful fluffy and so demanding, while her sister is the streamlined huntress, only cuddles when she wants to, always on alert mode. And I love them both so much. My little babies Roxy and Ruby ❤💯
I was surprised the biggest health issue with males wasn’t addressed here. Urinary blockages and infections are incredibly common in male cats. I’ve had 4, unrelated, male cats that had urinary issues. One of the times I went to the vet, she said 4 other cats were being treated for the same issue that day
I had this problem a couple of years ago, after having many neutered males in my life, I had no idea about this issue. A new male cat had moved into my apartment block and it's a monster, even coming inside my cat flap and spraying that stench. My Henry kept leading me to his litter tray and getting in it and showing me "look Mum, no wee's!" Off to the vet and found out all about it. Urinary Tract food, some meds and it's all good now. Except that monster still lives here but they must have sorted their issues out. The vet said, it's all about _STRESS_ for the boys.
@@angeloliveira1989 Yeah, my cats are all on CD prescription food. I also had one almost die, they had to cut him open to get out all the crystals. It is so rough. poor babies.
I have had both male and female cats, always spayed or neutered. In my experience, my neutered males are the most loving cats I’ve had. I have had two or more cats for years, but in the last year just have one cat, a neutered male, who is about 13 years old. He is my shadow, following me around, even to the bathroom. As I type this, he is lying on my lap and wanting to be petted. His name is Milo and is a ginger tabby. He’s the second ginger tabby I’ve had in my life and they were both males and both extremely affectionate.
@@krismikewill I'm so sorry for your loss. Your comment struck a chord b/c we have a 19-yr-old boy. He's pretty healthy (knock wood). But it always hurts to lose them.
@@krismikewillI’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet girl. 💔🥺 She loved you beyond anything you can imagine. She’s so thankful for the beautiful life and all the love that you gave her over those 20 years. ❤️
Ah, that's hard. My heart goes out to you. I swore that I'd never get another after having a 21 year relationship with my "mate" Then out of a clear blue sky 'She' just walked in... So I guess here I go again. Hang in there, it won't get better but you never know when some little guy or girl will need you. XXX
@@bbman5774 Yes and no. Teran just never developed any issues other than arthritis. The vet is a good idea if you have a pet breed that is known for having issues. I just got lucky cause... well, I was broke that entire time.
Every cat is so different. I've had cats most of my life, usually two or three at a time. The only behavioral consistency I've seen is that males do tend to be more casual while females usually tend to be more careful. They are very much like people in that way. But I've known females who were more adventurous and males who were timid. I think their personalities and early experience play major factors in this.
The main cat I miss, is the one who unfortunately passed on thirteen years prior due to old age. That girl was very loving to those who lived with her and me. But a royal terror to those who came over to visit.
Over the course of fifty years, I’ve had many male cats, all neutered. I loved them all, and thought I knew all about cat’s’ personalities. Then a few years ago I adopted a tiny female cat (spayed) and am still amazed at how different her personality is. She’s happy, very affectionate, and so gentle. No roughhousing like the guys all loved to do. No, she wants to be held, cuddled, combed and carried. She has a very sensitive streak; the only time I ever yelled at her ( she was on the table), she literally ran away crying. She was troubled for hours afterwards. The males would not have cared, they would have given me the tail and sauntered off. She’s smart and very obedient, and eager to please me. So unlike my cat before her, who was quite rebellious until maybe age 7. No, she does not represent all female cats. I’d like to hear about the experiences of others.
Yes! I have two female cats absolutely sweetest and so smart! One of mine especially seems to really obey and wanna make me happy, when I say no she stops what she’s doing immediately. she loves to kiss my face and cuddle and sit on my lap and bop her head to my face so I can kiss her forehead, my other female could care less what anyone thinks! But she’s still a sweetheart and hilarious! She has like 15 different voices and makes funny faces and has really big eyes🥰 they both also would never scratch me or bite me no matter what, we truly got super lucky with our girls! I always thought male cats were sweet because many I met were, but my two girls are the absolute angels!
I've owned both males and females but my current one is a female kitten. She loves having attention particularly from me but also loves to play. My hand is constantly covered in scratches. Im constantly getting after her for being on the table. Bought a spray bottle for that exact purpose. The moment I grab it she darts off the table. She's constantly full of energy and when it comes to her food dish I'm the only one in the house she complains to when it's low or empty. Im also the only one she'll jump up on the lap of, lay down and fall asleep. She'll cuddle with the others in the house but nowhere near as much as she does with me. She also enjoys terrorizing the 9-10 year old Akita in the house whom just sits or lays there and takes it. Sometimes he plays back but not often and never when he realizes people are watching.
In my case it's the opposite, my last male cat was affectionate, VERY affectionate despite not even being neutered, he was such a good boy. My female cat is... too prideful and doesn't like to be touched. Not very affectionate but has her short moments of affection so I'm sure she still loves us and we love her.
I have had both male and female cats for most of my life. Both can be very loving, but they express their love in different ways. Right now, I have 2 males and 1 female. The males are like my best buddies. They love petting and just hanging out with me. My female cat is very sweet and more motherly to the other two. She loves to snuggle and cuddle.
I have had cats for most of the last 45 years. I've had mostly neutered males, but a few spayed females. Currently have a 17 year old female. She does not like having another cat in the house. She loves to have someone pet her, but hates to be picked up. She especially likes my son and husband to give her attention. She is very spoiled, of course.
I owned a male American Shorthair that had been a street cat, got to the shelter at 3-5 years old, got neutered and I picked him. As he was already grown he had all his claws. He was huge, 13 pounds of climbing beast. He had a torn ear, didn't spray, was affectionate with me, and would take clues from me how to act with others. I bonded with him by brushing him every night in bed. He was mostly an indoor cat however, I picked up a small harness and a leash and would take him on walks. When he got tired walking I would put him on my shoulder. This when wearing a leather vest or denim jacket. He traveled well, liked going in the car on cross country trips. He liked catnip, didn't like other cats. He did not like loud noises. He caught mice. A couple times decapitating them and presenting them to me. He was good with the litter box. He was health and strong for 13 years with me. He had a stroke, had problems eating, drinking, walking and went deaf. He was going to starve if I didn't put him down. I still sometimes miss him. Pete was a good pet. Pete? Who names a cat Pete? Pete was all black. I got him home from the shelter and was wondering what to name him. I put on some music, Workingman's Dead. Song six came on, a blues tune, Black Peter. That's how he got his name. At night he would climb up on my bed expecting to be brushed. I would pull a sheet over my face and say "Pete, where's my kitty?" and he would pull the sheet down and I would brush him.
I have both a male and female cat. Got my female cat, Lily first and she was very playful as a kitten. She used to run inbetween my legs and bite my ankles as I’m walking. She got spayed at 10 months old. About a year and 3 months I got another kitten, male called Cosmo and the day I brought him home Lily hasn’t been the same. Not in a bad way! It took her some time to get used to the new roommate and about week 2 she was grooming him, sleeping next to him acting like a mother cat, she still does even nearly 2 years later 😂 Lily is 3 now and Cosmo will be 2 next month 😊 as I’m typing this both of them are laid on my lap
I’ve had both all my life & always had them sterilized young. My experience has been that the males are more affectionate & will follow you around more than females, but every cat is an individual with their own personalities. Love them both ❤
Ive learned in general regardless of male or female, a cat is more manageable if you get them fixed young. Plus with males it's a even less likely chance of them spraying. But males from my experience seem to be more likely to seek attention however the most efficient cat I've seen is a full grown female that sticks around my house. She'll stop doing whatever just to get attention and really use uer weight and size to push her way into taking all the attention. Pretty much shes a attentionslut and a half. She sticks around along with a few other cats because we feed them. We would let them inside but we have a female kitten which the female outside has tried to attack when she got in the house and the others are male cats that are unfixed and sprey everywhere outside so it wouldn't take long for them to do the same inside the house and we don't have the money to get them fixed.
I welcomed 2 kittens into my life 3 months ago. What a joy! The are littermates, one male and one female. I had the male neutered and the female spayed and the male, Snowflake, has turned into a lover boy. His sister, Cali, is more cautious and is just now letting me hold her for a minute or two, but she is definitely the aggressive “Hunter” of the two when we play.
Definitely found firsthand through my own cats and my kid’s cats that females are more aloof. The boys have been much more sociable to each other and to their humans. The females have hated their female cat housemates and the boys tend to buddy up. This is a small sample size and every cat is unique as far as their traits. I’m sure I could have different experiences with male/female but my default is to go with males. Especially love the wide cheek Toms.
My ragdoll cat had 6 kittens. My daughter and I looked at photo after photo to dry and figure out their gender and just couldn't. When we got to the vets he laughed at us until he checked them. They were all male. He said he'd never seen a litter of 6 kittens that were all the same sex.
My male cat lived to 89 1/2 : 18 1/2 years, but he was an inside cats, they live much longer than outdoor cats, that go outside, my male cat was neutered and when I got a new kitten he would mother it, and I always have male cats and they are very loving, and get along with my other male cats
Our male cats are super affectionate, love to play, and they get the zoomies. I’ve only had one female cat and she was like the mature, calm, motherly overseer.
I have an older male cat, we joke that he's half tiger. He is big, and you can't trust him most of the time, but he takes care of sick cats, protects them, breaks up fights, and chases coyotes out of the yard. The second is my male cat is a soft, hold me all the time kitty. He can't hunt, or fight, he's my sweetie., but is very territorial, and won't let other cats near me. The last is a beautiful black female, she's aloof from me, but loves my mom, , and sister.
My recently-departed 8yo female cat, Chiyo, loved to play - she'd literally drag the stick/string toy over to me and make sure I knew it was there. She also loved to play fight. When she was a young adult, she'd run up behind my, leap and tap the back of my calves, then run away in a weird game of tag. Very affectionate, and super smart - once caught her trying to open the pantry door because she knew the cat treats were in there. She must have been watching me use the door, so one night she got up on her hind legs and was trying to grip the doorknob with the front paws.. When she noticed me watching, she very slowly lowered herself to the floor, then just walked away with a "nothing to see here" kind of attitude. If that cat had thumbs, my usefulness would've been greatly diminished, I think. I miss her so much...
We have two cats. An older female and a younger male. She has always been more distant and cautious. He is more friendly and willing to pet. I never tried to force them to pet them. Only if they want it. It happened to me that I went on long business trips. And then she started waiting for me at the door all day long. Since then she has been my cat. I'm not forcing her to do anything. She comes to me on her own and she is so lovely. Just treat each other with respect and don't force anyone to do anything. And miracles happen!
The male cats I've had were more likely to run up to guests for attention but my current cat who is female shocks guests with how friendly she is. She has been compared to dogs with her tendency to investigate anyone new, and meows if they don't pet her.
Same. ours was a flamepoint ragdoll with a double coat n was 12 or more pounds. He has the really "girly" n highpitched meows, n ALWAYS grooms. He didnt hsve the gristlehead he was js FUZZY 💀💀
Definetly like male cats more, and have had more positive experiences with them. I have a big, adorable male stray cat come to my household almost every day to be petted! 😊
Gender differences are a definite reality, even in neutered cats. I’ve had female cats, most neutered, and their litters my whole adult life. Now I have two neutered males. The difference in mind set between males and females is remarkable.
@@kutatm Well its usually along the lines of "I had female cats so they do ...... more, then male cats" or I fostered kittens, and males were more .....". How many cats do most people even own? 100 or just 2.
I have 2 indoor girls, my parents have 1 indoor male, 4 male kittens, 1 female cat, 1 male cat outside, my brother has 1 indoor male, my neighbors have boys and girls outside so being surrounded by males and females it just depends on them and what they like. I love each and every one of these babies because they deserve unlimited love.
I’ve got two female cats - one when I was a kid and teenager and the other one when I became an adult. My first cat was a calico. She was loud when she wanted attention, loved to be pet and she was nearly all night and day long on her own adventures outside. She even got into fights! My other cat is a Siamese. She’s very polite. She never wakes me up at night (unlike the calico), isn’t outside this much and is very attached to me. She’s way calmer too. Both where neutered due to going outside.
I can say with certainty that the female cats I've owned were always more sweet and loving than the males. They were good hunters too, not lazy or aloof like the video implied. The males were always more aggressive and distant. I will say tho that our last kitten we owned was a male that was wild so he hated being held unless he was sleepy then he would "nurse" on us through a soft blanky lol. It was pretty cute😂
@cro-magnoncarol4017 I have gotten a make cat after having females for a few years now. I can say with confidence that my male cat is very sociable and friendly. Very calm and lovable
My late cat, Bilbo, was male. He showed up at our door when he was a 6-month old (per the vet's estimate) stray. He was so affectionate. He loved my partner too much, to the extent that he died of a heart attack when my partner was away for weeks. He was so sweet, so playful and so whatever the best of the universe. We will never forget him. My current cat, Donna-Bella, is female. She was captured as a stray and given to us for fostering. The rescuer foisted her on us because she knew we would adopt her. She plays much less but is also affectionate. Overall, our male cat was more affectionate.
most of my cats have been males and most of them very affectionate. I have had female cats be nice but its more rare by far. It really is true though that if you want a lovey attention-seeking cat a male is usually the way to go. I really miss my last cat so bad, that guy LOVED me more than any animal ever has, slept by me all the time, lived on my lap, hunted, and even traveled with me. Sadly a fox got him
I've had 4 male cats over the years and last year I got my first female cat, and I've got to say that I prefer female cats much more. She's very sweet, affectionate, patient and playful. Ofc there's times when she gets mean or she wants to sit down with no one bothering her but it isn't that frequent. She's currently taking care of her two kitties who are females, and those two are very smart and very observant for their age (theyre almost three weeks old). One of them is very laid back, calm and will walk to u for cuddles while the other one will start crying when you lift her up but she's very adventurous. I prefer female cats much more compared to male cats 🤷♀️.
There are definitely profound differences between male and female cats, but I’m not really sure whether the strong points outweigh the weaker ones on one particular side. Males might be more playful, but they’re also more likely to act like jerks and pee on things. Females may be a bit more aloof and moody/temperamental, but I’ve also found that they’re more loyal and empathetic to the needs of their chosen human. We have a good balance at the house where I’m living right now with my roommate - we have two females who are 15 and 16 years old respectively, and two males who are 3 and 8. It’s a really nice balance overall and somehow everyone gets along and manages to coexist under the same roof without too much fighting. There are definitely two main territorial “zones” dominates by each female in which the other one almost never strays, with a shared communal space in the middle that all four cats seem comfortable being in.
My female cat daintily tiptoed around the items on my table, but my male cat clomped around on the same table, knocking things lover willy-nilly. It was amusing!
Alot of people lose any bond with the cat because they think they can discipline them like a dog. But if you try yelling or punishing a cat you only make it fear you, everything about bonding with a cat revolves around trust. That's why you always let the cat come to you. It took a month before my girlfriends cat bonded with me and now I know it's because I wasn't trying. But that first time ever that it happened, the cat came and layed down on me while I was sleeping. And from that day on I fell in love, and it's amazing how deep the bond became. Cats are highly intelligent and very loving and loyal it just takes time. Which in my opinion makes the bond all the more real.
These differences seem to perfectly explain every (house pet) cat I've met! Also, cool to learn why male cats have such funny giant heads. I love that feature!
My daughter had a female siamese that i inherited when she went to college. She was fixed and still a amazing huntress! My husband loved that she pulled her weight by hunting mice and volves. She'd come in for affection and to rest but preferred patrolling the barn ours & neighbors fields. Flash forward my daughter came back and moved with her to Co. Being a self claimed "dog person" i never knew cats could be so loving. I did my research and have a 2 yr old neutered male liliac siamese (from the shelter!) He is strictly indoors and is so calm playful and loving! My husband even enjoys him despite him not pulling his weight around the house. He certainly makes up for it in spades with th3 affection comical things he does! Both genders are great in my limited experience. I think its more about what you'll enjoy so you keep and care for your cat for their live.
My female cats were way more affectionate than the males. One female always wanted to ride on my shoulder. She was always with me and at night would sleep up by my shoulder and purr into my ear. My other female cat Would also want to nuzzle and would suckle on my neck. Both would run to the door when I got home. The male cats were more aloof. They wanted to be in the same room as me but would go lie down a few feet away and watch me. They did not display the same separation anxiety when I was gone. They slept on my feet, only occasionally coming up to the pillow. I gave them all the same level of affection.
Same experience- I’ve owned 3 male cats and 3 female ( not all at once! ) The females were much sweeter and loving. Though our one male cat absolutely loved my husband .. hissed at everyone else 🤷🏼♀️
My female cat followed me everywhere along with my small dog. They were friends. This cat was like a dog in the sense it came to me when i called for her and loved affection by me, but did not like my husband. Our new male cat seems to like everyone, also very affectionate and more adventurous.
My 15 yr old male cat was neutered early. he never developed the adult male cat features. He still looks like a kitten and still romps around like a kitten, too. He's also a scaredy cat who absolutely hates going outdoors.
I have 1 male and 2 females. The females are a bonded pair and often cuddle with each other. The male is more affectionate towards me because I'm his favorite human. My female tortie is the territorial one and often there's a standoff between him and the tortie. My female tabby who is the oldest is more standoffish but that wasn't always the case. Originally, I had her and her brother as a bonded pair but he had to be put down after a short battle of kidney failure at 18 months. She wasn't the same kitty afterwards. Then we rescued the tortie as a kitten who became her BFF.
My 11 year old neutered cat ALWAYS marks his pathway, BECAUSE he is 98% blind since birth! He always goes outside with the other cats during the daytime and with that he marks his pathways. He also will spray in the House if I change furniture around. To get him to go out I have to tap on different areas I want him to go as well as on the door to remind him where the entrance is. Otherwise he will run into walls or doors. He is happy roaming around outdoors but stays really close to the House. So when I call Mr Eye (yes, he ONLY has one Eye that has a cataract in it, and that is why he is 98% visually impaired), he comes running right away!
I kinda think it depends on the breed of cats, regarding which gender is more friendly. I have a spayed, female tortoise-shelled mix who is very loving and a little playful with me. She used to cuddle with me at nights when I sleep. I had a male siamese mix who has always been super sweet, playful, and loving, and he was these things even before he got neutered. Every time I came home from college, he'd jump in my lap, play with me, by batting at my fingers while I was typing on the keyboard, and he'd fall asleep in my lap purring away. Gonna stop here cuz I almost feel like crying just talking about him. I miss him so much lol
Fact #6 makes so much sense! I was befriended by a stray cat who was captured, spayed and released and I noticed how round his face was. I now have no doubt that he's a male cat. It would also explain why he's so affectionate
I’ve had a pair of neutered male cats and now a pair of female cats. My males would play tough and have dominance behaviors, my female cats rarely do. They groom each other and my female black cat is one of the most playful one I had. I don’t agree personally that the gender of the cat determines how affectionate they are.
I've had cats almost my entire life. I'm 78. Most of my male(neutered) have been cuddle bunnies and the females hunted more. So many kittens are taken from their moms too soon. My latest kitten was. It's fun to watch Mama teach teach them to hunt, climb trees ctc. As it's true with humans ,it's also true with cats; some become great hunters and some don't.❤😂❤.love my cats❤❤❤❤
I have two male cats who are 12.5 years old. When I brought in my female cat last year on Labor Day. The one who considers me to be his hooman. He was the main objector of her being there. Now a day, they are in many ways best buds. And if she is in pain from us accidentally doing something. He comes rushing out to protect her.
Our black female cat was spayed at the requested time but she still had suiters, i think some of her pals were aggresive leaving sores that we'd take her to the vet for ointment and all the shots. She lived for 20yrs😢
I have one of each, male and female (traditional Siamese). They were littermates, spayed and neutered when mature, so very different in appearance and size. And, yes, personality and behaviors. The male is more playful (actually demands it), and amenable to being cuddled when *I* feel like it. The female is very affectionate too, but only on *her* terms (i.e., when *she* initiates it). I love them both, and got two so they can keep each other company when I’m out of the house. It works very well. They’re “best buds,” except when he’s feeling playful, and she’s not! When he’s getting too frisky for her, she gives him some “choice words!” But they never actually come to blows about anything.
I have 6 cats: 3 males and 3 females. Two of them (one male and one female) were feral into adulthood and they've become the sweetest cats I've ever owned..
I try to fix all my cats as early as possible. I have had a couple of male cats take on nurturing roles of kittens. I had one who when I had a bottle baby, climbed into his bed when the kitten was about 2 weeks old and taught him how to be a cat. I had gotten the kitten at about a week. I will say that while my first cats were female, since I was looking for a kitten who would be harder to adopt. When I got a young, but intact boy, got him fixed. He was one of the sweetest cats ever. I always said he had a 'he-em' since it couldn't be a harem.
It's wonderful to hear how nurturing male cats can be! They really do have a unique way of bonding with kittens and teaching them the ropes. Your story highlights the importance of fixing and caring for our furry friends.
Love all cats! My particular favourite was a neutered male who was funny and very friendly towards anyone who would give him food. We found he would turn up at a neighbour:s house pretending to be hungry so he would get an extra dinner. Not surprisingly he got rather fat until we realised what was happening. My husband loved our female cat who would climb onto his lap and put her paws around his neck and rub noses with him!
My female kitty loves to play and cuddle. She follows me around everywhere i go. Even just walking around the house she's always by my side. She sleeps between my legs most nights too. Shes my little space heater. She was a ferrell kitty (all black with a little chest patch of white) and i took her in at about 2 or 3 months old. Her name is willow. ( As in willow Ferrell) Spayed her around 7 months. She went into heat a few times before i was able to get her spayed. She is so talkative. I try and talk to her all day long and tell her i love her and play with her with her mousies and fishies. I might have saved her from the dangers of the outside (we live in the country with wild dogs and coyotes) but she saved me too. She basically cured my depression and ive been sober from drugs for over 2 years now. I got clean when i saved her. I used for almost 10 years. She truly saved my life and i love her with every ounce of my heart and soul.
Our tiger 🐯 rest on peace was very loving and affectionate for a Tom 😮, I miss him so much , I have become very close with his sister 😮girlie since he pass away 😮so I honestly think is how u treat a cat 🐈 I always give them affection and they returned it , I also make sure they r always fed , clean litters 😮, cats r very affectionate
Our female is sociable, strictly on HER terms! If I’m lying on the bed watching something on my phone or reading, she’ll jump up beside me and expect a cuddle, and she’ll complain loudly if she doesn’t get one. Her brother, who’s a ginger cat (the one in my profile photo) is very friendly and outgoing, and will come running if he sees a human he’s fond of!
My male cat is far more clingy than my two female cats. One of my females is very shy, the second one is more courageous and purrs really loud 😊 Their characters differ, but I love all my three cats🥰 Greetings😺
We had family cats when I was growing up. But when I graduated from college I began my journey with Siamese cats. I’ve had equal amount of male and female Siamese. What I really like about this breed is that they are usually one owner lovers. I see really no big difference between the male and female in their affectionate nature, perhaps because I have them spayed and neutered quite young. Also I’m the only person in the house besides them. When I had littermates males, their personalities were very different.
It's great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with Siamese cats! They are known for their affectionate nature, and it's interesting to hear that you haven't noticed a big difference between male and female cats in terms of their affection. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I have a Siamese female (formerly feral, who chose me) and one of her litter (male) who was born feral, but converted quickly. They are both pretty affectionate, though she is definitely more territorial about me and our house, than he is. Both are fixed now, but she certainly rules the roost. He is the most doglike cat I've ever known and sleeps on me, most nights. I love them both.
I just lost mine at 16.I adopted another Siamese because I thought they all were sweet. This female doesn't like to be held or cuddled. She bites me when I pet her badly bringing blood .I'm so sad not to have a sweet one
My boy got crazy in heat because of all the unspayed female strays in the area. So I rushed to get him neutered at 6 months. Unfortunately he doesn't have those big cheeks. I love the big cheeks.
My boy cat is so affectionate, he understands when I work and makes sure to just lie besides me, purring while am on my laptop. The only day he seems aloof is when I take him to the groomers.
My male cat 8 never sprays,he was neutered at 10months so he got the male size too,he is half feral and does not like to be groomed,he seems to have a favourite person and then that will change the next week,he is very smart and quiet..
I adopted a grey tuxedo boy, his name was Fluffy, Every day I told him he would always be my little kitten, He was my whole world, 20 years past by in ten minutes, I will never be whole again.
Personality & upbringing can be big factors. My grey Calico breaks a lot of stereotypes because her personality is more like a dog lol. She greets ppl at the door, purrs at the vet, has 24/7 play desire, postures with paws extended, and is just plain bigger at 12lbs vs 6-8 average.
Calicos might be the sweetest cats and overall most emotional cats, idk why, by my old female calico walked up to me on my back porch when I was 11, she was like 8 months old and just walked up out of nowhere and purred and wanted to be and asked for food, she definitely wasn’t anyones cat because she was very dirty and also pregnant, she almost didn’t survive the pregnancy and had to have surgery but appearently she loved the vets before and after, now she’s 14 and is still the same, she’s pretty damn stupid though,
We have littermates, male and female. Boy is more cuddly with me, but the girl also seeks affection. Girl is far more relaxed and outgoing. Boy is much more cautious and shy.
It's fascinating how each littermate can have their own unique personality traits! It's great that both the boy and the girl seek affection in their own ways.
Love you’d accent! I have both male and female but mt first kitty was a male. The males have definitely been more cuddly and loving but my female is also sweet, brave, strong, and such a boss. She takes no prisoners!
Since most people know next to nothing about tomcat behavior, I'll share some observations: Tomcats are very laid back and affectionate; in fact, they're more laid back than neuters. However, if they're indoor-outdoor, and fully adult (they come into their own at around three years old) they're less playful and less sociable with strangers. They expend enough energy on patrolling their territory, and get enough mental challenge from keeping an eye on everything within it, that they don't need play. They also interact with a lot of other animals, especially cats, to maintain the relationship status with everyone within their territory. Some need to be removed (killed or chased off) because they pose a threat to females; tomcats have a zero tolerance policy on this. Some need to be chased off for other reasons (other tomcats). Some need to be kept in their place (e.g. neuters and dogs; tomcats won't tolerate neuters who believe they're tomcats, but are otherwise neutral toward them). Others need to be kept happy and as friendly as possible (female cats; there's a limit to how friendly they get, though, outside of heat). One would be excused for not noticing, because it's usually quick and subtle, except when a confrontation escalates to an actual fight; fights are rare, though, almost always with other tomcats, and never with females (unless one decides to beat up the tomcat, in which case that's exactly what will happen; tomcats are totally "pussy-whipped"). All of this reduces their need for socializing with humans; they're usually quite happy limiting socializing to their human family. This doesn't mean that they're timid or stand-offish, though; they'll happily and politely greet anyone showing proper manners (as they deem it), and usually allow a pet or two, before going on their way. When they're home, and not in a hurry to get out again, they want to renew ties to their humans, and will be very affectionate, and otherwise eat, drink, and sleep. They can spend days at home, with only short trips out, and then be gone for days; sometimes, if they've picked up the scent of a female heat from a long distance, getting home between the bouts of mating and competing may not be possible, and they may stay away for a week. Marking in the house is less of an issue with well adjusted tomcats than with any other cats; because of the large territory, they have lots of other places to mark, while other cats will confine themselves to a much smaller area. With an insecure tomcat, though, things can get very bad, not least because their urine has an extremely strong smell. While they're extremely territorial toward other tomcats, they're likely to accept any other _well behaved_ animal on their territory, plus any and all female cats, well behaved or not; sometimes, they'll even accept tomcats that demonstrate submission. Females, on the other hand, will be less territorial, but are more likely to be territorial toward all other animals. Basically, tomcats are the ultimate combination of independent and affectionate, and the most laid back creatures you'll ever encounter (as long as you behave yourself). By the way, if you can convince them to play, they're no fun to play with. They mostly won't pounce, unless they're sure of success, and they're much faster and more accurate than they seem; they almost always catch the toy on the first try, and always in a firm grip. Then they decide that it's no challenge and no fun, and walk away, unintentionally leaving you utterly humiliated. When they rarely hunt, that's definitely not because they couldn't, if they wanted to. Yeah, this is personal experience from having had four tomcats, counting my current one.
I think the only reason why I wouldn't want a male cat is due to the spraying they do. We've got a few strays that we feed outdoors, but the sad thing is that these cats are very friendly and they appear to be once owned by humans. They allow us to pet them. It's a shame with owners throw away their pets and toss them outdoors. It's cruel.
maybe some of these strays are owned,? my lovely big Ginger Tom cat is often out and about .... hes also known as ""6 dinner Sid ", hes famous in the village , visits neighbours houses, pinches their cats food , he's super friendly and loves being fussed over and picked up ,generally loved by local children . its a hard job keeping him slim .
All cats are so different! I started doing “research” because I have my first female cat after having only male cats, not on purpose, just a coincidence. All of my boy cats have been insanely affectionate and loving but my girl is a bit more standoffish and doesn’t cuddle as much. Although she does follow me around the house all day so I know she likes me lol. It’s just hard for me because I want to kiss and hug her all day! She’s just so cute!!!
I've had cats (usually multiple cats) for 34 years. I can't speak for anyone else but it's been my experience that female cats for the most part seem to be more intelligent than males. More curious, better at problem solving and far more common sense. I also found females to be much more affectionate.
My 2 female cats are litter mates and get along great and are very loving towards each other. They are both very loving to humans also but one tends to favor the females in the house while the other favors the males.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's always incredible to see how animals can bring so much love and joy into our lives. Your cats sound like a wonderful addition to your family.
My female cat has always been extremely affectionate. She sleeps on our laps during the day and in my bed, beside or on me, every night. She is a tortoiseshell Angora.
My last two were siblings. She adopted my son as her human. Period. She was far more strict about his bedtime than I was. Her brother loved everybody. Their markings were similar but everything else about them was vastly different. Bone structure, body shape, temperament. She had bird bones, he was a tank. Molly's feet were so dainty it hurt when she walked on you. Murphy was like a basset hound crawling over you. We had 15 years of goofy with them.
Our girl cat is very independent and smart. Not a lap cat, but loves talking to us and always kisses me when I come home from work. She only plays with little soft balls like a dog, and ever so often curious what other people are up to. We simply adore her.
Interesting views. I have been adopted by felines for decades and found that species does contribute to their behavior too. My elder big Maine Coon male Panther is intimidated by my little female Bombay. Both are 'fixed' and he is twice her size, so I think breed should also be a factor.
I have 6 cats living in my house. I have an even mix of male and female and 6 totally different personalities. One of my cats was given to me by my friend. He didn't socialize her very well and she doesn't cuddle or like to be picked up. She will occasionally jump on your lap, but that is rare. Before we could get her fixed she had a litter of 7 kittens with 6 surviving. We ended up not being able to find a home for one of the kittens, so we kept her. She is a Chimera Calico, and has a totally opposite personality of her mother. She loves being picked up, will cuddle with you all day and loves to sleep between my wife and I. She gets so into being cuddled and petted that she will grab your hand and pull it back to her when you are about to leave. Oh and when I had long hair she would groom my head for me. I decided to shave my head bald and I did so while on a business trip. I came home and she didn't know what to do. I spent the next few days and nights getting my head examined by my cat.
I had for nearly 18 years a female cat who was altered. She WAS very territorial. This gal I remember would attack those who came over to visit. She wouldn't attack those living with me. When my daughter was born. And we had a social worker over. That gal growled at the social worker when she picked up my daughter. Currently we have three cats. Two males(both altered) who are about 12.5 years old and one female who is lil over a year old and has shown no sign of going into heat. She and one of the males consider my man to be their 'hooman'. They both will each sit on his lap. Even when he is either eating or working on his computer. While the other male is VERY possessive of me. To the point he gets mad enough to spray the area in our main bedroom on my side if and when I leave the house. Though he has learned that if he doesn't pee during the time I'm gone. I'll reward all three with some catnip I grow.
Some of the nicest cats I have had were males. My last male greeted every guest at the door and would sit at the guest's feet and look up until it felt properly acknowledged.
Neutered* males
@@JosedeJezeusdo you not know about outdoor cats?
I had a boy. He wasn't too affectionate. However, I loved him very much anyway. He was neutered. He loved to sleep next to me during the summer and on top of me during the winter. He let me pet him all I wanted, while sleeping. I miss him a lot😢❤

Oh dear God, pls come to my house, I have too many..I started feeding strays
Sounds like a nice buddy sweety-heart man.
Wonder if not fixing your cat is what allowed for longer life. :)
@@Vespyr_ Probably not. More likely good genes and good care.
My cat is 19 and fixed. Vet reckons she's got a few more years in her yet.
@@Vespyr_I don’t think it’s related. I’ve heard of more health (and behavioral) problems related to cats not being fixed than those of cats being fixed.
Orange boys are the best. Big personalities, generally very affectionate with humans without being clingy, and very entertaining.
@@allcats8017 he was huge, I would say he was basically the size of the raccoon lol. He owned that block, even dogs were scared of him.

I was surprised the biggest health issue with males wasn’t addressed here. Urinary blockages and infections are incredibly common in male cats. I’ve had 4, unrelated, male cats that had urinary issues. One of the times I went to the vet, she said 4 other cats were being treated for the same issue that day
I work at a Vet hospital and know several vets and techs who won't have male cats as pets for this very reason
Feeding dry food causes the issue. Only a raw diet is best for cats.
Had this on my current cat as well 3 times in a row he almost died, but he's doing well now with the right food and a medication for life.

@@bbman5774 Yes and no. Teran just never developed any issues other than arthritis. The vet is a good idea if you have a pet breed that is known for having issues. I just got lucky cause... well, I was broke that entire time.
My female cat was extremely affectionate and verbal. You could carry a conversation with my female cat lol
@@SuzetteKathsound's like our girl, the vets are scared from her😂
My male cat was very shy and scared as a baby but when we brought him home he explored the entire house and instantly became friendly!
I've had many cats. Females were smarter.
@@jeanie8831 can they do basic math ?
I have had both male and female cats for most of my life. Both can be very loving, but they express their love in different ways. Right now, I have 2 males and 1 female. The males are like my best buddies. They love petting and just hanging out with me. My female cat is very sweet and more motherly to the other two. She loves to snuggle and cuddle.
Female cats are caring and loving
The 2 most affectionate cats I've ever known were both females. One was spayed when she was young and one had 5 kittens when we got her.
Seems like his passing was hard.
I know that he loved and appreciated everything you did for him.
It took her some time to get used to the new roommate and about week 2 she was grooming him, sleeping next to him acting like a mother cat, she still does even nearly 2 years later 😂
Lily is 3 now and Cosmo will be 2 next month 😊 as I’m typing this both of them are laid on my lap
It's so heartwarming to see the bond between Lily and Cosmo! Cats can be such amazing companions to each other. 😻
I’ve had both all my life & always had them sterilized young. My experience has been that the males are more affectionate & will follow you around more than females, but every cat is an individual with their own personalities. Love them both ❤
Anyone else see an issue with society sterilizing loved ones in mass formation???
I’ve never done that to any of mine. I couldn’t do such a thing…

I agree with you 100%
My male cats are friendlier than my females cats too.
I’ve discovered the same thing. I have cats for 38 years.
I concur. We vastly prefer the males at my house. I have seen exceptions, though, but I love a big bold Tomcat.
I have to agree. When I adopt a pet, I choose a male cat and a female dog.
True but my girl cat is not a mother
That’s my older Cali!!! She’s the boss
Whoops! I lost your reply
That's such a heartwarming story! It's amazing how animals can show their love and trust when given the space and respect they need. 💕
The male cats I've had were more likely to run up to guests for attention but my current cat who is female shocks guests with how friendly she is. She has been compared to dogs with her tendency to investigate anyone new, and meows if they don't pet her.
I have that female cat as well. It is complex of personality ?
but boys r better than girls tho
We had a huge Tom when I was a kid. He was never neutered, but he was the biggest couch potato ever.
Same. ours was a flamepoint ragdoll with a double coat n was 12 or more pounds.
I'm sure they'll find some way to dispute it, they'll probably say that thr cat is trans
@@jamaalshaikh122you must think a lot about trans people
So, what’s the difference between males and females in your opinion?
@@kutatm Well its usually along the lines of "I had female cats so they do ...... more, then male cats" or I fostered kittens, and males were more .....".
How many cats do most people even own? 100 or just 2.
I have 2 indoor girls, my parents have 1 indoor male, 4 male kittens, 1 female cat, 1 male cat outside, my brother has 1 indoor male, my neighbors have boys and girls outside so being surrounded by males and females it just depends on them and what they like. I love each and every one of these babies because they deserve unlimited love.
It sounds like you have quite the furry family! It's wonderful to see how much love you have for all of them. Keep spreading the love!
@cro-magnoncarol4017
I have gotten a make cat after having females for a few years now. I can say with confidence that my male cat is very sociable and friendly. Very calm and lovable
According to a vet I spoke to, fixed tom cats are the sweetest. I tend to agree,I’ve had both and the males were always nicer!
make cat?@@R3cce
My late cat, Bilbo, was male. He showed up at our door when he was a 6-month old (per the vet's estimate) stray. He was so affectionate. He loved my partner too much, to the extent that he died of a heart attack when my partner was away for weeks. He was so sweet, so playful and so whatever the best of the universe. We will never forget him. My current cat, Donna-Bella, is female. She was captured as a stray and given to us for fostering. The rescuer foisted her on us because she knew we would adopt her. She plays much less but is also affectionate. Overall, our male cat was more affectionate.
Agreed
I’ve had both - I’ve loved them all dearly - and I’ve had the gift of love & affection from both. I am grateful.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
I've had eight cats since I was a kid, 5 males and 3 females (all neutered). My favorite 3, by far, have all been male.
most of my cats have been males and most of them very affectionate.
Thank you for sharing this funny story about your cats, it made my day!
My male kitten that I thought was a female is so affectionate....while my other male kitten is a hell raiser and not nearly as affectionate
As you're talking about female cats being more territorial, she starts stalking my male cat, lol
These differences seem to perfectly explain every (house pet) cat I've met! Also, cool to learn why male cats have such funny giant heads. I love that feature!
My current foster cat has a big pumpkin head. He’s also a calico so he’s quite the rare hunk apparently 😏😆
I’ve had both and prefer male cats. I find them much more loving and cuddly.
Wow, sound interesting. Good experience to live with both gender
Hmmm, he did not enjoy manhood, Lol
@@allcats8017 No, he's still a baby boy.
My female cat is totally attached to me and Loves playing 💁♂️
I have a Van cat. She is 7 but acts like a puppy. She loves everybody.
Same!
I've had many cats over the years, well decades. Each one had their own characteristics and personalities, both males and females. No two were alike.
I ❤❤❤ my two very spoiled male kitties!!! They love each other and are very mellow!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! It's amazing to hear that your cat lived such a long and happy life.
Same here exactly with Siamese siblings
I have 6 cats: 3 males and 3 females. Two of them (one male and one female) were feral into adulthood and they've become the sweetest cats I've ever owned..
Ohhh this female cat is so fluffy. Ohhh so is this male cat. Ohh they're both very fluffy awwww 🥰
That neutered male cat sounds like quite the character! It's amazing how clever cats can be when it comes to getting extra food. 😄
My old female cat was an aloof snob but my latest one is very affectionate, friendly and playful
All my cats have been sweet and their sex didn’t matter.
My male cat is far more clingy than my two female cats. One of my females is very shy, the second one is more courageous and purrs really loud 😊 Their characters differ, but I love all my three cats🥰 Greetings😺
It's amazing how each cat has its own unique personality! It sounds like you have a great balance with your three furry friends.
What a lovely production! Beautiful video of cats! Very good commentary. Just lovely.
My boy got crazy in heat because of all the unspayed female strays in the area. So I rushed to get him neutered at 6 months. Unfortunately he doesn't have those big cheeks. I love the big cheeks.
I don’t have a cat yet i still watch this 😂
Thanks for watching! You don't need to have a cat to enjoy cat videos. Everyone can appreciate the cuteness and entertainment they bring.
My boy cat is so affectionate, he understands when I work and makes sure to just lie besides me, purring while am on my laptop. The only day he seems aloof is when I take him to the groomers.
My female cat cuddles with me but it took over 6 months to form the bond. It's because I treat her so good ❤
My male cat 8 never sprays,he was neutered at 10months so he got the male size too,he is half feral and does not like to be groomed,he seems to have a favourite person and then that will change the next week,he is very smart and quiet..
BEST EVER cat to have is a neutered male ginger cat. 😍
Mine too
I adopted a grey tuxedo boy, his name was Fluffy,
Every day I told him he would always be my little kitten,
He was my whole world, 20 years past by in ten minutes, I will never be whole again.
Calicos might be the sweetest cats and overall most emotional cats, idk why, by my old female calico walked up to me on my back porch when I was 11, she was like 8 months old and just walked up out of nowhere and purred and wanted to be and asked for food, she definitely wasn’t anyones cat because she was very dirty and also pregnant, she almost didn’t survive the pregnancy and had to have surgery but appearently she loved the vets before and after, now she’s 14 and is still the same, she’s pretty damn stupid though,
I have male and female indoor cats and the differences are obvious. Both are adorable!
I have male and female cat. My male Jay is more sweet, gentle and cuddly. My female Buddy is sweet, cuddly when I'm sleeping but can be sassy.
That's a lovely pair you have
This was great information!!! Thank you
I miss my PK kitty. Had to put him down 2 weeks ago. 😭😭
Since most people know next to nothing about tomcat behavior, I'll share some observations:
Tomcats are very laid back and affectionate; in fact, they're more laid back than neuters.
My male cat was an asshole who didn’t like being touched. My female cat is a sweet heart and loves cuddles
Some females can be snobbish and standoffish (aloof) while others are absolute sweethearts. Male cats tend to be more ‘in amongst it’ and friendly.
It's amazing to see how each cat has its unique personality! Your girl cat sounds like she has a special way of showing affection.
I've had cats (usually multiple cats) for 34 years. I can't speak for anyone else but it's been my experience that female cats for the most part seem to be more intelligent than males. More curious, better at problem solving and far more common sense. I also found females to be much more affectionate.
I agree
I said “hello, nice to meet you.” to every cat in the video
Las gatas son mas inteligentes y familiares y delicadas. Menos destructivas. Asi era mi gata siamesa. Vivió 22 años 😢🐾
Mi gata girlie se cree la jefa de la casa
All cats: P E N I S
Everyone: what
Haha, I think you might have stumbled upon a secret cat code! 😂
It's interesting how different cats can have such unique personalities and behaviors! Thanks for sharing your experiences with your furry friends.
The first slide when they said about their genitals my first thought was "Wow.... Wouldnt you fuckin know?"
