Find her Live from Abbey Road performance with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tal Wilkenfeld, and Vinnie Colaiuta, if it's not on YT it's on Hulu I think. While she is great here, that performance will be stuck in my head forever.
Oh no, it totally can lol....I couldn't be a band leader no matter how much theory I know or how I play and Jon has a very specific touch that hugs every artist in the room and leads their step. Not putting her down but Jon is a once in a generation musician.
Seriously? This was unrehearsed? It's perfection. Takes me back to those halcyon days when singers like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald reigned supreme. Thank you!
I have always found Corinne’s voice enchantingly beautiful, but she just gets better and better. Add Jon’s accompaniment, so vibrant while so sympathetic, and the result is transporting. I shall be listening to these performances forever.
absolutely gorgeous ... their generation should bring back the old standards, the *great american songbook* ... it's sorely missed .... more and more and more, please ... an album, please ....
Was not expecting to get so emotional. What an amazing cover. We've missed you, Corinne. I love his audible "mmm" when she goes into her lower register.
Agreed! We have not heard enough from her. 💗🎶 Though, I feel her husband dying from an accidental overdose a number of years back could have something to do with that?
@@StewNWT He did, but you should check out the album that she wrote during and after his death, 'The Sea'. It's lovely. On a brighter note, she has since remarried.
Awww, suga! That's so sweet!! Praying the both of you find a reason to fall in love with each all over again every single day and that your love is carried over into eternity!! GOD Bless! 😊🤗💜
Did anyone else notice that CBR started out singing in double time, and JB instantly adjusted his comping progression to fit it? Then during the brief turnaround before the second half of the opening verse, he reintroduces the original tempo, and leads her back seamlessly into the original phrasing? Well-done both of them!
@Steven Bradley yep...as a bassist and brandleader myself who has accompanied many great singers, you always have to be on your toes and ready to modulate or transition to accommodate on the spot, or you may have a train wreck on your hands.
I love people rediscovering classic jazz. It’s beautiful, it’s difficult in a sense of demanding actual talent from its performers, and it’s as sexy as it is fun. How could you not love this.
I have no words to express how beautiful this duet is. Truly an outer body experience right here. We need more music like this to hit our radio stations. I miss this.
Simply an amazing duet. Unrehearsed? Wow. Plenty of well deserved love here for Corrinne, but how about giving it up for Jon Batiste? That was also a master pianist at work. The smooth progression of chord voicings created such a lush pillow of musical love for Corrinne to ride with her vocals. Mmm ..
Kougeru actually, most didn’t notice it, but she started out singing it way too fast (double time), which Jon recognized and fit his chords to accommodate it, then masterfully led her back to the original phrasing during the turnaround. The fact no one notices is thanks to the piano first, then the singer for coming back without losing her spell
I think half of what makes this so beautiful to watch is their communication. That little moment when she kind of moans the note just a tad at the end and he kind of looks over at her with a quick mmm in return... And the way they pause in that silence right after the last note is hit, taking in the power and pure beauty of what they've created... It's all just wow.
You hit the nail on the head Taylor !! I noticed the same thing. Jon makes one feel like this is being performed in a small smokey bar, with just a few in the house. Corrine is a true throw back... class and grace.
This performance is exactly what all of me needed to listen to. Beautiful. Corinne is a joy to listen to. And, Jon's wonderful playing paints out the perfect landscape for Corinne's voice to travel on. 💞
I can't stop listening to this. Both the singing and the piano accompaniment are brilliantly understated. This one will bring me some smiles and tears, like a good jazz piece always does. Thank you both.
Welcome back Corrine Bailey Rae!!! Missed your beauty and your amazing voice. Am so happy you are back in the spot light. God bless you have a smooth future
The music....intoxicating, her vocals are velvety smooth!!Their chemistry is mezmerizing...like a scene from a romantic movie/musical..... nostalgic🙄🙄 Simply beautiful.....✨✨
With that piano resonating into the distance, that look of his at the end....all the sadness. all the knowing. all the longing. all the joy. We don't deserve him.
Her voice sounds like a reincarnated legend of the past. Smooth, classic, and soulful.....

as beautifully expressed as this über-gifted duo ..... ;)
Not really.

So beautifully said! As a writer I enjoy this kind of gorgeous metaphor. It's just as sublime as the music that inspired it.
Watching Jon listen to Corinne, watching Corinne listen to Jon, and watching them both listen to the last chord together ... oh man, this is MUSIC!
You are so right. The vital difference between a good musician and a great musician is just that: the great musician listens more skilfully.
When two extremely talented people get together nothing can go wrong. Instant musical chemistry.
Very Talented.God bless them.

My daughter's favorite singer, singing my mom favorite song, weeping now tears of joy thank you for this right here.
It truly comes full circle for you! You're lucky.
That's beautiful! It's why great music always will be with us.
I shed a tear or two at this for sure. Each time

Janice Sims don’t forget about Dinah Washington
Well said
Dinah Washington was another classy songstress. Thanks for the reminder.
Janice Sims you forgot Lena Horne, but you are Absolutely right
We cannot forget the legendary Nancy Wilson's rendition of the beautiful classic.

I so agree! And I listen to this several times a week every week. Brings joy and healing to me, body and soul.
This project is a gift we did nothing to deserve, but thank you for them!
Serendipity at its best connotation - truly magical!

Too right - this is sumptuous. Whoever disliked this either has no ears or no soul. Or both.
Maybe they were mad that it wasn't long enough. I needed more. Aaah
Maybe someone who is uncomfortable with such sensitive, emotional music
Corinne is outstanding. The way she sings is like she whispers directly in your ear (and only in yours). Simply great!

Same. I remember put your records on from when I used to play rock band. This was incredible though!
I was literally thinking about her the other day and this pops up in my suggestions! I am so excited to see her again

Her singing brings Billie Holiday to mind. Very nice duo. Her voice is like warm honey and the piano accompaniment is just right.
People actually love this music but they just don't get a chance to experience it enough.
Corinne is one of the best artists ever to have come out of the UK.
Absolutely. And so underrated. Saw her a few weeks ago in Manchester. Amazing x

This has that 65th wedding anniversary type vibe. Like watching your grandparents slow dance together...
I'm embarrassed to say how many times I've played this, over and over and over again.
Don't be embarrassed!
I like the look on the pianist's face at the end. It's like the music they both put on hit him so hard, he is in sweet pain.
We need a TV show with singers to sing on the spot with exceptional musicians. We might have a chance to make greatness popular again.
Her voice and his music are a match made in heaven!!!! Simply beautiful
