    My city just got our first APP member a few months ago and she's been educating THE FUCK out of everyone and its so awesome to see. Their shop page on fb is all about properly educating people about body jewelry and she's actually got some of the bigger shops worried because now that people know, they aren't down for the shitty stuff anymore. I got my belly button pierced with surgical steel or whatever when I was 18 and I have argyria around the piercing point and it is NOT cute at all. I've been working for the last few months to change out ALL of my old shitty jewelry for Anatometal and its looking, and feeling so good already. Its more expensive for sure, but it's so worth it to have healthy and happy piercings!

    18:29 same with Tattoos... People judge me and say that I paid way too much for my 600$ tattoo (which is badass and is worth every penny) and say that they'd prefer to go to a cheaper artist because they don't want to pay that much for a tattoo. HOWEVER, these people usually own a 500$+ smartphone. I don't see why you are willing to invest this amount of money into a thing that last you ~ 2 years but not into something that lasts FOREVER... WTF

    • @kateykation125
      @kateykation125 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly I got one blind and with my piercing and I didn't know what to look for I didn't do any research beforehand and not paying the cost. I know has external locking barbells in stainless steel. I'm allergic to nickel and now I have to consider looking for actual reputable piercer to help hook me up with really good grade metal. I know an excellent tattoo place that I should probably look more into but now I know also that I'm going to have probably have to pay a hefty fine for my tattoos but if I'm going to get them done I want them done right and I don't care the cost

      Ikr? I'd much rather spend my money on a work of art that I can enjoy for my lifetime instead of something that will be obsolete in a year or two. I don't even own a smartphone, and never will. My landline with an answering machine is fine with me. And it's much cheaper, and does what I want it for. (Jan Griffiths).

      Veronica Byers try to find a shop that sells the brands she listed, or just see if any shops sell the good metals.

    • @green.velvetdreams
      @green.velvetdreams 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Veronica Byers if you contact an APP member and know the proper sizing of the jewelry you would need for you for your piercing you may also be able to have them order the piece for you and ship it to you. If you're not sure of your sizing though, take that 4 hour trip to visit them and get them to assess you. It's worth it.

      Veronica Byers Ditto! I got my belly pierced years ago and it got infected.. I'm pretty sure it was from the external thread and it got caught a few times while healing so it started ripping... I had to just let it go :( I still have a "hole"... I'm pretty sure it's closed in the very middle... nasty scar :(

      @kateykation125 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Veronica how did you look up the App piercer by you? I have an external locking piercing but I have stainless steel piercing. I just got it done last day of February but I want to get an internal locking maybe niobium or gold piercing.

    I got my septum pierced for $65 and some of my dumbass friends are like "I wouldn't pay more than $30" and it pisses me off so bad. If you don't put your health first then you don't deserve a piercing. It's that simple. So childish to blatantly ignore this information because you don't care about your health or the work people are willing to put in to give you a beautiful piercing. One of those friends pierced her own nipples in a fucking college dorm. Also, don't buy jewelry from that Lotus and Co place on Instagram. Their "16g" septum clickers aren't even 16g, and that shit made my nose green like a fucking dollar store mood ring. I didn't know better when I bought it; I was under the impression that 316L was safe, despite doing a lot of research. Turns out my piercing is 14g anyway lmao. NEVER again will I settle for anything less than titanium. I'm so grateful that I was able to get the titanium piece I was pierced with back in. My nose feels 300% better. Can't wait to get a custom BVLA piece!

    I find it interesting people will spend $100s or $1000s on engagement rings, earrings, etc but for anything considered 'body mod' it's suddenly over priced? Wtf lol Awesome video, I learned a lot and will be going to my local piercer to get a new nose ring asap, had no clue about the stainless steel! Thank you :)

    • @BrightLightStar9
      @BrightLightStar9 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sara Williams there are also a lot of people who want to spend more than $100 for a nose piercing jewelry, including me! For example a Diamond nose stud from Alluringbody.com (^_^).

    • @douglasgriffiths3534
      @douglasgriffiths3534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And those expensive engagement rings can easily be lost or stolen, or go down the drain. I went on the cheap with mine---a silicone ring, which means just as much as a diamond, which I really don't care for anyway. I like colored stones like sapphires, emeralds, tanzanite, etc. (Jan Griffiths).

  • @dakota1732

    FINALLY an informative video about good and bad body jewelry. I got a piece of cheap painted plastic septum jewelry (Hot Topic) that was falsely marketed as stainless steel (which I thought was fine at the time), and it got stuck to the point where I had to call my piercer and make an appointment to have it professionally removed. The process was terribly painful and I'd rather pay $100 for a new piece of septum jewelry than ever have to go through something so anxiety ridden. DON'T BE CHEAP WITH YOUR JEWELRY. It's so damn simple. Your body is important and it's so easy to permanently scar your skin with shitty quality metals. Thank you for this video, Kiwi. Sending lots of love 💝

  • @VeryNaughtyKitty
    @VeryNaughtyKitty 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Kiwi is so right on this it is important to do your research and making sure you're getting good quality piercing put in your body. I had a friend after her piercing had healed up she got cheap metal put into her body. Three weeks later her body was starting to reject the piercing. It eventually became infected with the flesh eating bacteria.She went through hell recovering from that. It is not worth it to go cheap when it comes to piercings.

    My question is, why isn't all this information being shared with us when we go in to get a piercing. Like I know you're probably more likely to hear it from a better piercer but why isn't this a mandatory thing. I thought I went to a pretty reputable place but now I'm reconsidering going back if I ever get another piercing..

    • @XxScreamKiwixX
      @XxScreamKiwixX  6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      UndeadDolly Some piercers just go by the health department standards... Which if you think about it Walmart and claires gets approved at this level as well! APP does classes on everything from cleaning, metals, techniques, anatomy and even classes for the community! They do this every year but it takes a while to become an APP piercer so that's why you don't see that many around you but it's hard to get people to appreciate or look into it because..well people are stubborn. :/

    • @WittyKitten
      @WittyKitten 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes! I thought I went to a reputable piercing place because they've been given awards and everything and they've been around for decades, but sadly enough the piercer didn't even have titanium jewelry. They used surgical steel for my piercings and I got a lot of irritation and scar tissue because of that and my piercings didn't heal even after 3 years! Recently I found out the piercer angled my piercing so it caused more build up of scar tissue and I can't wear hoops in them ever because the area is too big for a ring. I'm getting them re-pierced at a different shop which actually uses Neo-metal and BVLA jewelry

    Way to go on this video kiwi! I work in the tattoo side of a tattoo and piercing shop. It's amazing how much you can learn just from talking to the piercers everyday. all of this information is so important and critical when getting a body piercing or just managing a body piercing. The only other thing that I think is worth mentioning is silicone. Not all silicone is good for your body. We usually only recommend Kaos skin wear. But you hit the nail right on the head!

      Ear stretching is actually quite a easy topic. First things first never skip sizes ever, never stretch with silicone / acrylic/ cheap cheap jewlery. I myself stretch with glassware studios or astm ig titanium Honestly, wait 2-3 months between stretches. Obviously depends on people's body you know your body better than others but it's defenitly not a race! Longer you wait better conditions tour lobes will be in thicker, healthy, no blow outs win win. It should NEVER hurt it's a stretch not a fresh piercing. Now tapers, if you do use them always make sure it's a proper concave taper with right pitch not some cheap no tapering one haha. Only up to round 2g or 6mm. Then from there natural stretch. Just wait It out, and you will get some natural gap, and put the new one in . I highly recommend jojoba or vitamin e oil massages 2 x a day and half sizes I hope that helped out quite a bit! Have many many stretched holes 2 3/8" ears as we speak and I work counter and starting a apprenticeship soon at Red at Night Tattoos and Piercings APP member Tyler Hamline 🖤 if you ever have questions always ask your reputable piercer

    Great video and it's an amazing idea to talk about that. I've always been passionate about piercings, I've had tongue piercing, nose piercing, nose ring and my whole ears pierced. I've always worn pure silver jewelry but from time to time I used to buy shitty piercings only because they looked "cute". Well until three weeks ago when one of the shitty "cute" piercings made an infection on my ear and because it had a shitty structure, it got stuck in the hole. As a result I had to have my ear operated so that the plastic surgeon had to take off the jewelry. He had to close the piercing after that and I took meds to clean my body from the toxins and for the pain and for the etc for like more than 10 days. So please people don't use shady jewelry that only looks "cute" why? Because even though you can get lucky once or twice, you can get a bit unlucky after 6 years of putting on shitty piercings from time to time like it happened to me.
    Save yourselves the suffering! ❤️🙌🏻
    Once again great video and it's really nice that you educate people about the subject before they finish with a plastic surgery because of a jewelry mistake.

    Sterling Silver turns skin black if you have an iron deficiency. It's 92.5 % pure silver so It shouldn't irritate the skin in any way. If it turns your skin green then it isn't sterling silver and has a higher percentage of either nickel or copper in it. Sterling silver is super safe for your skin.

      Sami86K my opinion is "blech" her personality is rude, obnoxious and I'm not a fan of her body mods and piercings at all or how she tries to stretch out videos with boring details and info about every single mod she gets for money because those are the only videos people watch of hers.

    The surgical steel jewelry you mention has worked for me. Been wearing it in my tongue for almost 20 years. When I had a Monroe and a nose piercing the jewelry was flawless. Only removed them because I got bored of the piercing

    Omg when I got my lip pierced(my first piercing) I didn't know shit! I was 14 and I couldn't figure out why my lip was so sore for so long and it was because the ball wasn't screwed on properly(piercers fault) and the threading was rubbing the already open wound, raw. It was the worst pain ever!!!! I haven't used a externally threaded bar since then. Harder to find in stores but worth searching and paying for!

    Can you please do a video on how to properly stretch your ears? I always see so many people who rush the process because they think that's what you're supposed to do and it's extremely concerning.

    Bless you for this. Honestly no one ever mentions how important it is to get pierced with proper metals. It’s so easy to find a local tattoo shop that does piercings, but it’s never crossed my mind to ask what metals they’re using/from what company. And it totally should’ve because my skin is so sensitive that no matter how well I’d try to take care of them, they’d always somehow reject! Now that I have several piercings I feel like I have to take all the jewelry out and buy a completely new set! I feel robbed .-. but it all makes sense now. Lmao Thank you for this! 💗

    This is a great video. I love seeing/hearing you talk about piercings because I can tell you are passionate about it. I have a lot of piercings and I've learned through trial and error that the materials you put in your holes matter!! I feel like people always go with the cheaper cute option over the sturdy healthier one.

    What are you thoughts on types of materials for stretched ears? Like away from metals, are specific woods/stones/silicones harmful or best for ears? I've had my ears stretched for years now and I've been wearing mostly Kaos silicone but was never properly educated on if they're good for me.

    I came back to this video because I have gotten many piercings in the last few months.. I got my right tragus pierced over a month ago, and my piercer would only pierce it with a bar, and because he is obviously more experienced than I am, I listened. However, over this past week, it became incredibly swollen to the point where I couldn’t even move the bar and I think it came to the point where it was too swollen for the bar.. at first, I thought it was infected because it was bleeding and swollen and scabbed.. but it didn’t seem quite like an infection... so I took a hella gutsy move and had it changed from a surgical steel bar to a titanium captive bead ring and it HURT SO BAD TO GET IT CHANGED OMG.. but as soon as I got it changed, the swelling instantly went down and now it looks SO much better and I’m glad I took the initiative to have it changed.. my choice may be frowned upon, but I mean.. I felt as though it’s what had to happen. What do you think kiwi?

    After a horrible piercing pagoda experience (woke up one day with my ear bright red, puffy and feeling like it was lit on fire), I got my ears pierced properly. I'm slowly converting all of my dangle/hook earrings to titanium. Soon I'll start working on the studs. Unfortunately 90% of my earrings are from Claire's since they're so cheap but so are titanium findings so that's a plus.

    I recently ordered new titanium pieces for my ears, but I have stainless steel in the meantime which I HATE, it freaks me out to have it in my piercings ;-; (thankfully the jewelry in my nostril is already titanium from neometal) But I'm super excited to switch them out once my new jewelry arrives!
    Anyways, I loved the video and your passion for piercing is so admirable, it makes me want to learn so much more about piercings and metals! Luv ya goob ♡

    I somewhat recently got a nostril piercing and wasn't sure what type of jewelry/hoop I was going to like. Nail, segmented, clicker, etc...so my "budget friendly" solution was to just buy a few cheap pieces/sets so I could try them out and see what I liked then ordered a gold version. I'm really glad I did and it worked out well because I thought I was going to like the nail style but ended up not being a big fan after wearing it for an evening and I'm glad I didn't just dive right into spending $30 on a gold piece.

    Crazy factory does list the grade of metal, I buy from them all the time.. They mostly produce bioflex and surgical steel 316L but I usually buy their titanium jewellery which I haven't had a problem with thus far.

    I'm allergic to literally everything that was brought up except the surgical steel, and yes, that includes the titanium, I actually got a peircing recently, and they told me I shouldn't be allergic to titanium because it's hypoallergenic, but the metal they used to replace another metal thatt most people are allergic too, I found out the hard way that I was allergic to it, I had those titanium bars in for 3 months, it wouldn't heal properly, I couldn't sleep on it, it always hurt no matter what, I changed the bars to a surgical steel and the next morning, it didn't hurt, the inflammation went down, and I could sleep on it.
