    Just an FYI if you are interested, Dextrose in and German is literally translated as "Grape-sugar" or in German Traubenzucker. So that would be a multi-vitamin dextrose tablet. Depending on the process the Grape flavor will be present or not. Love your vids

    There's always wive's tales about stuff put in the food. When I was in the Canadian army, everyone believed that there was saltpeter in the food to diminish certain "drives". I know that fable isn't unique to Canadian grunts...I've heard it from other countries too.
    And like every soldier while on leave, it was disproved pretty quickly.

    In the field we would boil water in a pot and warm most all the food in the boiling water rather than dumping it into a pan then the mess kit. Much less to clean up, nothing burns and just as fast. I don't know why the eastern European rations don't include black pepper or some sort of hot sauce, much needed for some of the meat dishes.

    Its interesting to see that our soldiers rations consist of regular civilian stuff you can buy in any supermarket.. Sure it might taste a bit more decent than food that Is made to last for ages but I thought the army would prefere longgevity over taste. I wonder how long do these rations last before they go rancid?

    • @KitbashedSurvival
      @KitbashedSurvival  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      what i know of the food inspectors (army veternarings) at a army base 4 decades ago was. at the expire date the inspector goes in pulls a case or 2 from a lot number, opens them all up checking on the components. those that pass get like a year long extension before re-inspection. those that don't or are close to expiring get sold off.

      During the American Civil War, doctors in the field would ask each soldier the "status of their bowels" and if the soldier said he had loose bowels, he'd give the soldier an opium tincture sometimes called "black rock". If the soldier suffered from constipation he'd give them something to loosen them up.

      Xylitol only causes a laxative effect when consumed in large quantities. The amount in the gum isn't enough to do it. It's one of those internet rumors that has some basis in fact, but doesn't tell the whole story.

    Excellent meal review.
    I find other countries military food specialists simply go grocery shopping with a list of best approved meal items and put them into a MRE package for their military to consume. I get it. After volunteering and eating US MRE'S for 30 days as part of a 2016 US ARMY, Natick Food Labs study, I take ours over other countries meals ready to eat anytime.

  • @humbug2308
    @humbug2308 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think another part of why foreign MRE's are better is they spend less on defense budget overall. It's no secret the US foots the bill for most of europe, not to mention a lot of their soldiers aren't actually fighting prolonged conflicts. US MRE's hold up extremely well to the elements, age, etc. A lot of these foreign ones have jelly exploding just from shipping. They're simply not "combat ready", more for training missions. If you look at other countries assault rations, they're incredibly similar to US ones, because they have to be to actually hold up. Just my 2 cents.

    If you don’t have enough fiber, and you may be sitting around for a few days, and you eat too much protein and carbohydrates, you can get a military version of “stopped up”, or “impacted”. Then then you might need a military “evacuation/extraction“ laxative if you don’t get enough fiber, juice, etc.🥹🍖🥩🥓🍞🫓🥖💩
