This documentary aims to explain the role of the Romanian Orthodox Church in the daily life of the Romanian citizen.
You will see in the minutes that follow a sad truth, that the Church in some circumstances has lost its religious, positive nature, to combine man for good without having interests of another nature, being strongly influenced by economic and political factors.
We would like you to understand that the Documentary does not intend to attack the Church, as a monastic institution, bearing the word of the Lord, which urges the citizen to do good. Our documentary makes a direct reference of that part or better said to those members who have distorted it and use it for the purpose of acquiring personal gains.
Due to such considerations, the church has lost some of the respect that people owed to it, here being largely new generations. Young people ask themselves great questions about how to spend money, they notice a lack of purpose and, unfortunately, the misery of some church representatives.
What is sad is that the church prefers to build even more churches, a place of prayer, when Romania desperately needs hospitals.
Couldn't the word of the Lord be transmitted to the homeland by doing good and helping physical healing, not just the spiritual one?

This is utterly the lowest piece of 'journalistic' trash I have ever seen.
It is an insult to Romanians, to their Church and to journalism itself. Most of the information is false. There is definitely an agenda behind this so called documentary. The tone is condescending and the purpose is clearly to cast dirt at the Church.
Yes, there are rural areas where living conditions are rough, but most villages DO have running water, some outside and some inside their homes. People live off their lands and very many of them also have jobs in the nearest town or city and they commute.
They DO have access to education whether the school is local or in the nearest village and there are school buses.
But what does all of this have to do with the Church?
It is not strange at all that a lot of churches are found in the country! We have been an orthodox people for the past 2000 years and Romanians have always been very attached to God and to His church especially during trying times throughout history. People have always gladly contributed to the building of new churches and consider it a privilege to support the House of the Lord.
Believers do NOT go to services out of obligation! I am familiar with church life both in the city and the rural area. Whoever wants to participate does so because they love the beautiful orthodox services.
It is simply malicious to generalize about the chatting groups in churches - if they exist, there are perhaps very few and very isolated cases - not in every church!!! Not at every service!!! You must have gathered this waspish detail from an atheist or someone who disrespects our Church so as to serve the purpose of this 'film'.
It IS God's House - not only Romanian priests 'like to call it' that.
You are completely ignorant and offensive to a holy institution. You should do some homework on the history of the Romanian Church and see why the clerical staff is paid from public funds and why the Church does not pay taxes. And then make a 'documentary' about it, not just throw dirt on something you know nothing about.
Like in every other part of the world, there are rotten apples and corruption.
But to present this unfortunate case as representative for the entire Church is again ill-intentioned.
What does the lack of medical aid have to do with the Church?! What does the state of roads have to do with the Church?!!

Please do gather some information about how tremendously the Church helps constantly, how many children are raised by priests and nuns, how many donations it makes to hospitals and much more.

Honestly it is the most stupid documentary which I ever have seen. And I say that as a romanian. First of all, your informations are not so true......The Orthodox Romanian Church it is the biggest charitable institution. The Church it has 787 charitable institutions, plus 545 charitable institutions for childrens. It has much more institutions than the state. Plus Romanian which you describe is exaggerated, ok?. There are not so many poor persons as you describe. Last year Romania had the biggest economic growth from all E.U.
A priest doesn't receive a full salary but only 75% from a normal salary. Plus the place where a church should be built it is normally bought by the Patriarchate of Romania.
In what regards the story of the man who wanted to be a priest, even I can turn my back to the camera and invent a story. In generally no one will ask you to give money if you've finished an Orthodox theologic Faculty. And I say it as someone who now study at a Orthodox Theological Faculty. In what regards the village with 29 churches, we must specify that all churches were built by one priest, all of them with his money and with the money of the Patriarchate. He did that because all the old citizens complained that they cannot arrive at Church on sundays. In what regards the National Cathedral this was constructed as a national program. From 1918-1920 the government (under the leadership of the great king Ferdinand) had in plan to build it but due to the historical situations it wasn't possible till 2018. Plus the cost of the Cathedral isn't much more than 3 or 4 km of a highway.....Plus the Church gave 30 millions of euros to the State as TVA. So the real cost of the Cathedral is much more cheaper. Plus we must remind to all that we had the atheist communist regime whic in 40 years destroyed the majority of Churches. In a population of 1,587,951 Orthodox inhabitants there are 260 Orthodox churches (parishes, monasteries, chapels), ie a place of worship for 6,108 inhabitants. In a centralized situation, presented by the State Secretariat for Cults, it is clearly shown that the Romanian Orthodox Church remains the cult with the fewest churches in relation to the number of believers, the situation being problematic in Bucharest, where each of the existing churches serves more 6,000 people. Do you have the proof of payments in taxes for profits from mfinante.ro? What is the name of the company that paid those taxes? A normal priest must pay for example also the territory on which is built the Church (because the territory is gave by the mayor and the state). In a parish with 2 priests (and not only) it must be paid a TVA or something like a rent....and it's around 1100 euros ( 50 millions of ron-lei). And guess what all this from the moneys of the priests or of the community. That's why a priest normally appeals at the faithfulls. It's impossible for him to pay it with 75% from a minimum salary which is around 220 euros. Therefore the minister of finance has nothing to do with these taxes which the state ask from the church.

Hello there again, my friend. Are you aware of the mininum wage for a priest being 3.700 Ron before tax.(brut) or 2100 Lei after tax (net) which is about twice as much as the mininum wage? Are you also award of the increase in your beloved Daniels's wage to around 23.000 Ron before taxes? A month? Which means there is a huge gap between the people on the private sector which work for a mininum wage and the wages you get working for the curch? Also you will need to consider the priests does not work for or in the name of the state to whom which you and all romanians pay taxes in order to benefit from social care, health care or acutally getting paid to work for the state. Ps: curch does not pay taxes - period. The curch does not pay land tax on lads - period, the curch does not pay rent, the cuch actually charges rent, as for an example there is a hospital being charged rent by your beloved patriarchy. And this is my friend the purpose of this documentary. To show how a beautiful belief is manipulated by people and blindly accepted and paid by the state. You do not have to agree with our statements, however you do have a freewill and you can check them. You shall believe in GOD, not in the people of god as they are just messengers of theyr word. What silliness is said about Easter and Christmas services. People stand a few hours but they do it with joy and of their own free will, willingly. Old and weak people can sit on benches. As a child I used to go to a church for Easter night services with my grandmother. I remember that festive, joyous atmosphere in the church - church is lit with a lot of candles, parishioners sing along with a church choir, exclaim "Christ is risen! ". You can come to a church later, towards the end of the ceremony not to stand for many hours. No one is forced and it's not anguish but joy to be present at such service. I am from Russia.

The cathedral is a historical dream and brings joy to every christian. Is it the Church's fault that she was able to build it? Isn't that what a church does? If the church could offer this to the believers, why not? This so called documentary is not quite free of prejudice.

There are no lies in this video, thank you for making it! I was borned in a religious family and over my life I seen a lot of priest with more than 3 cars, a lot of money, more than 2 houses in different places. So, where these money comes from? Of course from all things a priest make for people, but those things must be free like the Bible and Saints says.
Also, I know a Bishop (Sebastian Pascanu) who have a giant house builded somewhere in Salonic (Greece). This bishop is like a mobster, taking "tribute" from other poor priests. In order to maintain their jobs (their parishes) they need to give food (yes food like meat, fish, and many other) and money. Also, in order to have a parish, you need to pay a lot of money (So he practice Simony like others bishops). Also, two monasteries give him everything he needs daily (Food, Drink). But most disturbing fact is that those bishops have a monthly salary from the state and it's huge (more than a doctor/fireman/cop). The simple fact that the Church has this level of power is that they ally with the political party who rule Romania. Of course, this thing is present from the time of Constantine the Great, he make this system for having a good control of the Empire and his populations. Also shame on those priests, monks and bishops who make sex with under-age children (most of them are students at Theology) - those rapers are cover-up, but they can't hide forever. (Like the case of Corneliu Onila, Bishop of Husi)
