Every time I’m depressed, or having trouble sleeping, I come back to this video. It probably sounds silly, but it brings me such comfort to listen to this and imagine I’m in 2001:ASO. It’s my favorite film, and for some odd reason I’ve always found comfort in HAL 9000. To listen to this, and pretend I’m deep in the midst of space exploration brings me such peace. Thank you for this lovely creation, I can’t tell you how much it has helped me over the past couple of years. May you, and anyone reading this, find peace, joy, and rest in your lives. :)
I understand this so much. This will always be my favorite movie and book respectively, and they captivated me so much from a young age that it brings me a lot of comfort to think about. And also to be alone on the spaceship in complete solace with all the time you could need and interesting readings and instruments to monitor if you choose.
2001 ASO was a seminal sci-film. I remember being absolutely amazed at the realistic graphics and atmosphere. There were long queues outside the cinema. Great film.
It is also my fav movie of all time. I was studying to become an engineer when it came out. After watching it, I decided to apply to NASA to work there. I got a job in quality control for missiles, including the Space Shuttle and our ICBMs (the same methods were used to make all cables - whether for space or defense). It was an exciting time. Most NASA employees were well aware that we were doing something important. Looking back, I'm proud to have worked on America's space programs. Some people say the moon landing was faked by Kubrick. To that I say that I went in to work every day for years, checked hundreds of cables, and looked at hundreds of blueprints of electronic parts. If we designed, manufactured, and tested all those parts... and they were not for the moon landing... what the hell were they for? What were we making? Fake parts to be thrown in the trash? TO MY KNOWLEDGE, we went to the moon. I saw and heard nothing to the contrary. To this day, 2001: A Space Odyssey remains the one movie I watch at least twice a year.
I saw it on the movie theater screen when it came out in 1968. No film has had a more pronounced impact on my life than that Kubrick film (based on Arthur C. Clarke's work). I sleep with this on at times, like I shall tonight.😊
You don't have to pretend you are on a space ship while listening to this. You don't hear it, but we all ARE hurtling through space on a ship, planet Earth. This video just gives the perfect tone to the flight. Feel free to roam about the cabin, but when seated, please keep your seat belt securely fastened. The beverage menu is on a card in the seat pocket in front of you.
The hum of the electronics and HAL, along with the roar of the atomic rockets. Excellent, I'm checking out your other work and it looks interesting. Thank you.
Among the BEST videos to be be created online. Most influential sci-fi film of all time. Most realistic spacecraft; nuclear engines and all. This is what we need NOW; a reusable ship for all destinations in this Solar System, and stop all the costly redundancies.
Many are cold but few are frozen.... er.... many are called but few are chosen. By the way, I wish there was a 'backstory' for those astronauts. How old were they? What were their specialties? Geology? Physics? Language?
@@2011littleguy That would be a great idea. After all Frank Bowman shows up again in 3000. Otherwise the story of Kimball, Kaminsky and Hunter would all have the same conclusion aboard Discovery. There would be a lot of story in front of and behind HAL's perceived problem solving.
krysknife007- a big thank you for all the work you put into making all the scifi ambient engines, etc. hardest part is choosing one. awesome collection!
I have TH-camTV linked on my VIZIO and through my surround sound. The HD pictures you have look absolutely brilliant on screen and are also soft enough images so it won't be a burn in problem on the TV. I am currently listening to the one from 2001 and is a really nice soft white sound without the rumble of the Star Trek ones. So relaxing. I also find it to be better to have the sound adjusted just above the level of the ambient sounds of the room. Also great for reading by. As HAL would say; "It has been a pleasure Dave."
Daniel Parker Ohhh nice. That is actually exactly what I do with some of these, same sort of tv even. That's why I make sure to do all of these in 1080 so that they will still look okay even years from now. Thanks so much for your kind words and glad to hear that you appreciate the sound :)
crysknife007 Yes, it's puzzling. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before. I would recommend that we put the unit back in operation and let it fail. It should then be a simple matter to track down the cause. We can certainly afford to be out of communication for the time it will take to replace it.
Very cool and thank you. 2001 my all time favorite. Interstellar and Gravity are two good efforts, but 2001 is like Sgt. Peppers, it just keeps getting better with time. Just curious, how do you create these lawn high definition videos? I upload my motorcycle racing videos but I've no idea how you createLong videos with music or extended ambient sounds. Thank you.
Don Land My main 'trick' is that I upload all of these videos as one frame per second so that their file size is much much smaller than it would be otherwise. The audio ends up taking most of the space since the video is playing so slowly and it allows me to get the audio quality pretty high. For making them this long I'll usually make a 10 minute or so version and append it a few times to make a one hour version, then I'll append those together until I can trim it off to 12 hours. Thanks for your interest in these, always fun to talk to other scifi fans. 2001 is indeed legendary :D
crysknife007 What is hilarious is that I assumed youtubes vp8 conversion would bring it up to normal frame rate for us but looking at the details in VLC it says 6fps, neat.

2001: A Space Odyssey is the first Spiritual Movie ever made in History. What is Life? What is Humanity ? What is God ? Is there Life after Death ? Non of this questions will be answerd ...
"The whole idea of god is absurd. If anything, '2001' shows that what some people call 'god' is simply an acceptable term for their ignorance. What they don't understand, they call 'god'... It's known how much King hates Kubrick's film version of his book because he took almost all the supernatural stuff out and mainly made it a film about Jack and his family getting crazy in the head.
Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error...

Sorry crysknife007, I can't do that!
I've just picked up a fault in the AE-35 Unit. Its going to go 100 percent failure within 72 hours. That is a completely reliable figure.
First saw this movie in 1968 on a 3 screen wrap around setup in a theater in Jax, Florida. Went back about a gazillion times to see it again.
Brilliant ! I've always loved the sounds, and silences of this film - good work crysknife007 !
EagleOfToledo Thanks! Yea, that movie has such amazing soundwork. Truly an inspirational film in the highest sense.
I can hear the wind between the stars.
When watching "2001", some people can hear the vacuum between the stars, while others can only hear the vacuum between their ears.
There are times I would love to be aboard Discovery One heading to the Oort cloud...
2020 and 2021 reinforces this idea. Gladly join you.
