Similar challenges are being faced by residents in Pinetown, KZN. My mother, a pensioner, living alone, is dealing with water shortages during the day, availability only between 22h00 & 06h00, and an exorbitant water bill of R80k for the month of Feb. This comes right after addressing a substantial R60k electricity bill, that led her to switch to prepaid electricity in Oct last year.

My bill is sitting on 300k for one month in 2022 and they said that the meter broke and it was tested only for them to say they lost the meter, so now im stuck with a large bill and no help with Joburg water.
seems like this is a nationwide problem.... Northern Cape has been struggling with water for months! warrenton in the Northern Cape a small town outside kimberley has been struggling with this issue for years now, kimberley is also getting water shedding since mid last year!
What a funny coicidence, this popped up on my YT feed on tge very same day we woke up without water in my area (05 March 2024), apparently the Eikenhof pump station has a "disruption". I'm at work as i speak and i couldn't take a proper shower before coming here 😢. Hopefully water will be restored by the time i return home
I live in Cape Town(northern suburbs of the Cape Flats)...looking at this makes the City of Cape Town look like superheros...we dont have these issues and complaints are usually dealth with promptly(suspected a leak at our meter and they came to check the next day). Issues with high bills you go to the office and either negotiate to oay if off or have it written off if itsbthe fault of the City.
Hard having weeks old babies without water 😢electricity can manage but water is essential, once developed country now turned rural filling in buckets and containers ,whilst paying an arm and leg for NOTHING
I had a R52K bill from COJ shortly after a repair in my neighbourhood. They claimed I had used 1 million litres of water. Unfortunately, there is no one you can speak to at the Randburg office. Their technical person I requested to speak to was the security lady at the entrance. I informed them of the air in the pipes and they laughed me off. So, if anyone from COJ is watching this, please inform me where I go to get compensated for my R52k. It's time to get rid of the incompetent COJ and Johannesburg/Rand water employees.
But if they repair the breakage immediately then only will water be save and people will only be without water for a few hours. The residents must go to the voting poles on May 29, and vote the ANC out! If the ANC running Johannesburg on the 30th of May, the residents will only have themselves to blame!
Same happening in my town, Heidelberg, Gauteng. We have no water but are still billed for water usage. Municipality is just clueless.Last year we had no water for about 70 days. Now it was 3 weeks.
The same thing is happening here in durban Queensburgh ( Malvern ) Area last month we had no water for 1 week but when the water bill came at the end of the month it was double what we normally pay . We have contacted the municipality and asked them about this then they tell us that we probably have a water leak somewhere so we tell them how do we have a water leak when there is no water coming out the taps it does not make sense for the bill to come double what we normally pay

Why IEC? They’re the sole organisation ensuring our elections are fair. Yes it’s hard to believe ANC still wins but they do due to a large portion of our population being uneducated and not knowing any better
Funny that Lenasia South was not included in this video. The area has been experiencing water shedding twice a day, daily for 7 years straight. Our bill was -R300, then R9000 the following month, R112000 by the end of that year, R230000 by the end of the following year. Municipality said we have to pay it, was around 2013. I'm sure it's way past a million now. We stopped bothering with it. Can't win
@dorothyzijlstra5626 There was an article done by Daily Maverick in 2022 in which they mention the new reservoir built. Initially the issue was deemed as capacity related and a new reservoir was built. The new reservoir has been standing empty since completion a few years ago, yet JW used its completion for so much positive publicity.
