    My wife and I are planning out about two years until we start our homestead/farm. I've been working with angus a bit and Dexter really seem like they'll fit the bill better for what we have planned. Threw you a subscribe so I can keep up and learn all I can about this unique breed of cattle.

    This makes so much sense and just one more confirmation for my desire to grass feed only

    I live in the south and am just getting started with cattle. I'm raising a heifer on grass only and that started with me giving raw milk for 5 months when I weaned her. She's looking fabulous and for the cost of grain I'm very glad she's on grass!

    Great video!! Love the addition to the video as well! The true meaning of repentance is to realize you are wrong, turn completely away from what you are doing, and focus on the Lord.

    I don’t understand how grain fed is popular when grain costs so much. The extra weight and faster time to finishing seems unlikely to actually allow more profit.

    God bless you, brother! I just discovered you. I’m about 40 years past my last 4H livestock animals. If I had the land, could do it again and knew what I know now, I’d definitely go the grass fed route & stay rural. I look forward to your future videos!

      Thank you Sally. Staying 100% grass fed has its challenges. This is another area where I think emotions could come into play quickly. When you see how much the cows love the grain your first instinct is to give them more cause it makes them happy, but in some ways I would equate it to how junk food makes people happy all the while destroying their health. With the cows I truly believe that it decreases their natural instinct to find and eat even the plants that may not be their favorite as well. Thanks for watching!

    Excellent video as always, now when you refer to grain, are you referring to only feeding grain like a feed lot? Or feeding graing as an additional supplement to hay? I ask you because I feed grain just a small amount every other day in addition to their hay. You have made great points, now something that has been studied is that indeed there's benefits to grass fed beef being healthier but there's not much difference, the other point is advertising it as a 100% grass fed which is a rabbit hole, because as long as they have access to forage even though you feed grain is considered grass fed, another curious articles are that there has been blind beef vs grain meat test and is always a 50\50 favoring one over the other one. At the end also grain is an extra cost that can get expensive really quick, as always good video 👍.
    PS: Repentance is the ability to recognize your mistakes and showing GOD that you have the will and faith to change and not commit then again

      @dexterranch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rey. When I say grass fed I am referring to them only eating grass for their entire life. I know that there are different ways that people are able to label their beef as grass fed but I was speaking about 100% grass fed. I agree that it’s about 50/50 on the taste preference. Thanks for the comment and thanks for answering the biblical question. I will give my answer in the next video. Take care.

    Great informative video. The true meaning of repentance is to turn around or turn away. So repent and believe means to turn away from what you were putting your faith in or other Gods, yourself, your works and to put your faith in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ

    Repentance is not just a change of mind it is a change of heart, it is a spiritual turning. Repentance is a turning away from sin and to the Savior. It is an inward response not just an external activity.

      @@dexterranch how would you finish a grass fed cow to make it grass finished

    • @dannyeasley4974
      @dannyeasley4974 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flograymare8800 I see. So with most of the meat that you buy at the supermarket the cow was raised to a year old on grass and then sent to a feedlot to eat grain or whatever they have decided makes them put on the most weight the fastest. 3 or 4 months later they are ready for slaughter. With grass finished they just never leave the grass. This takes considerably longer. So where the supermarket cow went to slaughter at 15 or 16 months old. The grass fed is not ready until 24-30 months old.

    Well, I don't think you would get a grain fed Dexter in that would hang with any weight in 18 months..........Mine usually go at 24, and even then I think they could use a bit more yet. This year because my butcher is backed up some, they will go at 26 so will see what the numbers are. I would also mention that any potential buyers of meat try grass fed because it is different. I personally rate grain fed Dexter beef towards the top of the tastest list.

    Why don't you get southpoll's, they are very calm, breed back well, and hold a good amount of weight.

    1:24 .... i am sorry , but i am atheist . I have nothing againts those who believe in god ( whathever variety ) , but i think that you should tread carefully . I came for cattle advise / inspiration ... or basically anything cattle related . Having religion stuffed down your throat will drive non-religious viewers away . My suggestion is , if you are so inclined , setup different channel for this purpose . Greetings from highland cattle / sheep / horse farmer from Czech republic .

    • @dexterranch
      @dexterranch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jede traktor. I appreciate the comment. I know you have been watching the channel for a while. I hope you will stick around. Thanks again for the perspective. Horses huh. I am interested in possibly being a horse to the farm. Do you breed, buy and sell, use them to get around the farm or just own them for pleasure? I am asking because never owning one im trying to understand a little more about how they contribute on different peoples farms?

    • @jedetraktor_cz
      @jedetraktor_cz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dexterranch the horse part of the farm is just for enjoyment / riding . In my area , there is also potential to "house" other peoples horses , for fee , obviously . Money-wise , this would bring more money per unit of land than cows / sheep would . Otherwise , I am not aware of them "contributing" anything else , apart eating about 5-foot bale of hay per week per head during winter :-) ....for me , they were the "gateway" animal . Initially i bought some land to have horses there . Only later came sheep and then cows :-) .
