@@mr.wizeguy8995yeah, I agree, it’s the same in my iX1 and I was a little worried in the beginning, but to be fair, you indeed set it and then rarely touch it again.
So sad that VW decided not to import ID7 into USA and Canada including this tourer ..same with i5 Touring ..North America just seems to hate wagons..we re too much in love with SUVa pickups and crossovers..why not put more cladding on it bigger wheels higher suspension and call it Allroad Alltrack ?
Don't worry these things are not selling at all in Europe. You'd need to be brain dead to get this over a Model Y. A friend runs the largest volume VW dealership in the UK and they haven't sold a single one, he say he has a bounty on whoever sells one but nobody has come close yet.
@@Twin.motors It depends on the market, in ours the ID7 has better sales numbers in 2024 than competitors in the same size category such as the EQE, i4 or Model S.
Why not have one 1️⃣ large rear felt/textile floor mat in the rear? Now, it’s two separate with a big space in between, as if they had taken them from an ICE car with a transmission tunnel. Even the ICE Peugeot 508 SW from 2011 has one 1️⃣ floor mat for all three rear seats for its flat floor, which was kind of unique for an ICE in 2011.
Great video! Test drove the sedan version with 20 inch wheels last weekend, and I really noticed the low frequency "booming" from the wheels when I exceeded 90 km/h. Was pretty annoying on a long drive. However, apart from that I really like the car!
When do German manufacturers finally understand that a lot of the options they offer for purchase are standard with most of the currently dominating brands. I believe that is a huge issue for them and reason why numbers are down. At Nio or Tesla I have 3-4 options to add. But no chance to “double” the price with extras
A great review. A great car. A shame the seats don't fold completely flat and the seat bases don't fold up to protect the rear of the front seats from load scuffs. A car I will shortlist for the future as I like the sound of the smoothness. However I'm hoping for an EV Volvo estate at some point in the future.
For me, at the moment - a few years still off buying my first EV, it’s between this ID7 T (SMLR) and the equivalent A6 e-tron Avant. But obviously £60k+ is a big pill to swallow… probably buy one 2 years old, and save about £20-25k on initial depreciation!
I really like the VW "simplicity of design" for both the door handles and the charge port cover. I've had a 22' EV6 for 2-1/2 years and still don't care for the pop out door handles and the powered charge port cover.
So when you lift your rear off the seat, _the car_ toots... That's unique! :D Seriously now though, this looks real nice actually. Fairly restrained design, quite well thought-through, rather German overall, I must say. In a positive way. I wish VW a lot of success selling this one. :)
Thomas I really like your videos. I have one question, did you ever disclose what car you are driving? I believe you mentioned once that you prefer plug in hybrids. Thanks
I really like it. The design is great, with great proportions (which can't be said about the new Passat). The turning circle is awesome! That's the same as a mk7.5 Golf Variant, which is a smaller car. I love how it has the old non electric cargo cover in the boot, and not that gimicky electric one. The rear seat look fine and with that tilted postion they solved the classic knees in your face seating postion as seen in the new A6. The front is okay too, apart from the capacitive buttons on the steering wheel and the lack of 4 window switches fro the driver. One question came up in my head with these new infotainment screens. Do they have the screen turn off feature from the older systems? Power is okay, and I hope there is a way to maybe turn off all traction to have some fun. A drifting electric VW wagon would be pretty funny I think. :D Thanks for the detailed review!
It's an interesting point re the driving dynamics. For years part of the USP of a luxury car was the smoothness of the drivetrain and the lack of noise, all things that are pretty much standard with a BEV drivetrain. So whilst electrification is a no brainer for that class of cars there's also a potential threat when mass market cars can deliver those same qualities with a BEV platform. Or in other words, why pay silly money for a 5 series BEV when you can get so much of that experience for a lot less. Ultimately badge snobbery will come into play but once legacy manufacturers match production efficiencies of the Chinese, who are selling BEV's for less than ICE in their home markets .... the everyday person will reap the benefits.
I'm in the market for a wagon. Starting price of €9000 extra over the Passat, hmmm... That's a lot to overcome with nergy costs, especially for apartment dwellers. Many Passat buyers seems to be one-car-households without a driveway or other private charging possibility. The batteries being kind of small despite the hefty premium also doesn't help it as a business or road tripping car. In an idential overall length Lucid Air you get up to 118 kWh and a 280 liter (!!!!) frunk. VW is just not really trying to offer customers the best possible. Slap some parts together, OK to waste 280 liters of frunk space, and charge 9000 over a Passat, obedient consumers will buy whatever we tell them to.
@@BBingo-v5i The price really gets up there though. I don't buy into the carbon dioxide bad rhetoric (no such thing as science is settled, when it contradicts all we know in more established sciences). To me BEVs need to earn their existence on merit not stories and scary emotions. Drive well at a good price. Diesels are lovely to drive but I see upsides for plugins and BEVs as well. They're not being subsidised a lot anymore. 86 kWh is €9000 in cells only. Motors are cheap compared to to engines and gearboxes. I don't see great value in BEVs. No inductive changing even, still!
@@CloxxkiWhat don’t you believe about the effect of CO2; that emissions aren’t too high or they don’t lead to temperature increase? Perhaps you should look at Venus if you doubt the impact of a runaway greenhouse effect.
Yes - I like this - The inside is better.- Think I would like ' webcam ' as standard.- Plus - two oblong type screens on dash - right - one for passenger internet/access. Extreme ' gadget - man '. Good length of car and turning circle excellent. Price bit steep! Bless Badger
Sounds like price is really the biggest problem with the ID.7. Seems like a really nice car, and in Touring form, quite attractive. Not such a big fan of the fastback style, which tends to accentuate how high the floor is.

"Someones daughter watching netflix and chill!" Dududu duuun duuuuu! on repeat
I sat in and drove and ID7 a while ago. Honestly the space is really good and the general feel is a huge step up from an ID4, but the interior build quality is still not fantastic. A lot of the materials feel quite thin and hollow, not nearly as sturdy or substantial as something like an i4 or Zeekr 001 or even Tesla model 3. You keep mentioning the felt covering being more premium than what BMW does lately, which is fair as I would like them to use it again. But I do feel that you forget to mention that VW (and many brands) drop the ball with general material quality lower down. BMW tends to have soft touch materials all the way down, around glove box area, and the area around the door bins is also often softer plastic as well. This is where VW and others apply hard scratchy nasty plastics instead.
@@SoloPerICommentiif you buy a premium vehicle you expect that. I mean even a model 3 has it lately... the hard scratchy plastics low down on the id7 are some of the worst as well. Just not reflecting the price.
@@SoloPerICommentiyou would be surprised that it is actually not that fragile. And these hard plastics many cars use are super easily scratched as well. So in terms of durability it is alsi not worse material.
thanks! They said that they want to introduce that also to the existing models I think. Might have been because this was the very first ID7 Tourer that was built
It seems you have the exterior package plus, shouldn't the logo be illuminated like it is for th GTX? I ordered a Pro S tourer fully loaded and it's included in the specs
Man, I miss my Passat - was the original owner of a 2004 until someone totaled it...the only car I've ever been 'attached' to,,,almost bought a pre-owned 2019 or 2020, whatever the last year of the Passat in the USA was...wife wanted to move on from sedan...now I can't get any new Passat, bummer.
The rear blinker cascade becomes blue🟦 and then green🟩 before turning yellow🟨, which is not so nice and may even be a safety issue ⚠️; milliseconds can matter.
How could it be in terms of it being a launch as it is the replacement for the VW Passat in either the sedan or station wagon variant, or as we can call it the VW Passat Variant, but it will be a good vehicle sold in Europe or the United States.
Thomas, the BMW i4 actually outsold the Model 3 in H1 2024 in Germany and even the EQE came close. Cosidering midsize/executive EV sedan prices, I'd say go cheap (Model 3 SR) or full-size (ID.7 Touring). Anyway, competition is always good for consumers. With ID.7, i5, EQE as well as the upcoming A6 (plus foreign imports Model 3/ET5 and 7/Seal etc), we'll finally see options in this segments.
@@hannes5610 sure, like the i5 or EQE, the ID.7 is more like an executive sedan or "Obere Mittelklasse" as we say in German. But if you're in the market for a new sedan, you'd probably check options in both segments and for some people smaller interior space or trunk might be not an issue.
In my opinion the real reason for the 77 kWh version is - if you get it fully equipped you get for 69.450 € which slightly below 70.000 € and the current mark for company cars in order to benefit from 0.25% tax instead of 0.50%. Otherwise I fully agree, I doesn’t make any sense.
Anyone know what its like to sit in the back in cargo mode? Suspect we will leave it in that as standard, our daughter is still in a car seat so shoulkd be fine - but is it ok for an adult to sit like that?
Definitely this one looks much better. I do not like the look of Id7. But in thia eatate version I would buy it. Of course, is way too expensive. But otherwise would be nice. The interior space is also way too big, while the boot is rather small.
VW group on fire with awesome realeases this YEAR... the new A5 is probably the most beautiful car i've seen .... GOLF got the facelift it needed ... and the OCTAVIA went the hyundai way ... the SUPERB and new PASSAT are exactly what the people needed.
Thank you for the in-depth video. I really wanted the tourer version but unfortunately it's very slowly coming to Romania so I ordered the sedan. I really wanted a BMW but the i5 is such a disappointment in terms of practicality and the i4 is not worth the money in comparison to this, so I ordered the id.7 even though it's uglier
Great review both , do prefer it in the red uk version and petrol but it’s not a bad looking car and considering Volvo are bringing back the estate in the uk maybe the electric estates might sell well
ID7 Sedan doesn't really experience this booming effect at all, 20" factory tires. I have it for 3 months now and already close to 10K km, so not sure about this sound. As for the parking sensor, it's absurdly sensitive and i've had too many cases of unnecessary emergency brakes initiated by the car... too bad you can't disable it by default :(
Thanks for the feedback! Maybe it's also because it is one of the very early cars, havent had it with the sedan, I will re-test it as soon as possible. Yes the parking sensor is absurd indeed. Do you have the IQ Assistance pack? I still wonder if its not included if you dont pick the additional assitance pack
@@autogefuehl I think my car has them all because it was a demo car and they usually pack everything. The IQ Assistance pack brings all the possible assistants, right?
Precisely but imagine how much money these manufacturers are saving by doing this. But truly a retrograde trend in Automotive design. I'll have to make do with my 8 year old Golf until things go back but I fear I may not be on this earth by then. Oh, well.
Would encourage you to actually try it. I have an ID.3 with the previous generation (read much worse) infotainment system and haven’t missed physical buttons once. Not sure what people keep adjusting all the time. 🤷♂️ Volume is on the steering wheel and climate I set to 20 degrees in the winter, 23 in the summer in AUTO mode and forget about it.
I still don’t get it why these type of wheels are all the same.. i mean from right side they ‘point’ to the backward and from the left side they ‘point’ forward. I mean what’s the science behind this configuration? How does it work with the aerodynamic of the car?🤔 Otherwise the review is top. I’d rather wait a bit before i consider ordering an electric VW
Really annoying that we can't get the ID7 in Norway without the glass roof and still keep the DCC and double glass front side windows. It's in the same exterior pack option. That big glass roof is not very good for cold climate.
Not sure if you are referring to the weight, but what I stated was the maximum towing capacity for RWD and AWD version :) The _weight_ of this vehicle is of course way above 2 tons, 2,2 or 2,3 t depending on the version.
In your last ID.7 video you have promised me that you would measure the opening of the fifth tailgate over the rear bumper as soon as you will have a Tourer variant available, I expected you to keep your promise. Unfortunately, that didn't happen...
It is NOT a replacement of the Passat but an addition. Only in Norway or Denmark will EVs replace ICE cars. In our summerholiday we drove through Germany and BENELUX. Allmost no EVs on the road - compared to the amount of EVs in Denmark.
no worries, they are missing the market in Europe as well...not even talking about China. People in Europe are asking for cheap EVs to get around town and they release 80k cars or 40k ID.3 that is buggy and feels super cheap inside.
For vacations and holidays, traveling by car, you usually need the most space, have passengers in the rear, and travel the furthest/longest time in the car. They have to sit upright like they were on an 8-hour job interview 🤦🏼♂️
Gotta love how manufacturers get constant feedback that high gloss is dreadful especially in high touch areas. So they go and make the key out of it. VW failing to listen to consumers once again
still don't understand this obsession with legacy car makers of giving barely any power to their electric cars, making them just as slow as their ICE version, whats the point of making an electric car with instant torque if you give it 150hp for 2.5tons, feels very intentional to make Electrics seem worse, which doesn't do them any benefit against the competition

A beautiful and subtle color. Sadly we don't get Estate/Wagons here in the USA.
Excellent Review thank you. I can lease one for £276 per month but have reservations about the claimed range. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! Please recommend / share our channel and our videos 🙏
that lease rate is excellent !
Great to hear Leas opinion too. She is a very valuable partner to Thomas. A great team ❤
Great review, nice delivery, you're a star my friend - thank you for speaking in English, my German is woeful

Quite like it, no buttons for HVAC is a crime though.
AUTOMATIC climate = set and forget.
@@mr.wizeguy8995yeah, I agree, it’s the same in my iX1 and I was a little worried in the beginning, but to be fair, you indeed set it and then rarely touch it again.
You never had Climate Control did you?
So sad that VW decided not to import ID7 into USA and Canada including this tourer ..same with i5 Touring ..North America just seems to hate wagons..we re too much in love with SUVa pickups and crossovers..why not put more cladding on it bigger wheels higher suspension and call it Allroad Alltrack ?
U guys have a6 allroad, basically the ultimate station wagon
All US market analysts and corporate decision makers proves that lobotomy operations still exist in the dark
Don't worry these things are not selling at all in Europe. You'd need to be brain dead to get this over a Model Y.
A friend runs the largest volume VW dealership in the UK and they haven't sold a single one, he say he has a bounty on whoever sells one but nobody has come close yet.
ID7 is on the US site just dont know when its coming
Smart to have a charging flap that might keep snow away from the port while charging.
Love the configuration you chose Thomas! Great idea
thanks m8 =)
When do German manufacturers finally understand that a lot of the options they offer for purchase are standard with most of the currently dominating brands. I believe that is a huge issue for them and reason why numbers are down. At Nio or Tesla I have 3-4 options to add. But no chance to “double” the price with extras
Thanks guys as usual a detailed review 👌
cheers !
A great review. A great car. A shame the seats don't fold completely flat and the seat bases don't fold up to protect the rear of the front seats from load scuffs. A car I will shortlist for the future as I like the sound of the smoothness. However I'm hoping for an EV Volvo estate at some point in the future.
cheers !
The extension latch for the rear seats to become more upright first appeared on the mini clubman.
It's a very handsome estate and reminds me of the cool Passat's of the 90s. Clean lines, elegant yet sporty. I wish this design came in ICE format.
So when you lift your rear off the seat, _the car_ toots... That's unique! :D
Seriously now though, this looks real nice actually. Fairly restrained design, quite well thought-through, rather German overall, I must say. In a positive way. I wish VW a lot of success selling this one. :)
Great to see a comparison video with the i5 Touring

@@autogefuehl but what about a head to head group test? I5 e40 and ID7 Pro S?
Does it have camp mode?
Great video, looks like a great car. Could I ask what Nike trainers you're wearing? They look very smart.
Cheers! Cant remember the model atm
Thomas I really like your videos. I have one question, did you ever disclose what car you are driving? I believe you mentioned once that you prefer plug in hybrids. Thanks
Thanks 🙏 i ll make a video on that soon!
Thanks for the detailed review!
Thanks! U can turn it off to a screen saver thing
Ultimately badge snobbery will come into play but once legacy manufacturers match production efficiencies of the Chinese, who are selling BEV's for less than ICE in their home markets .... the everyday person will reap the benefits.
yes indeed, badge will be less and less important
The bigger 86kWh net battery is not really small and fits nicely. The range and passenger and cargo space the ID.7 tourer offers is great
Lucid steht vor der Insolvenz !
@@CloxxkiScience not your strong suit then?
Is it a good idea to have softer materials way down?
@@SoloPerICommentiif you buy a premium vehicle you expect that. I mean even a model 3 has it lately... the hard scratchy plastics low down on the id7 are some of the worst as well. Just not reflecting the price.
@@Astke I am not so sure, that kind of soft material is also more fragile and easier to scratch
@@SoloPerICommentiyou would be surprised that it is actually not that fragile. And these hard plastics many cars use are super easily scratched as well. So in terms of durability it is alsi not worse material.
Can wait for the Skoda Superb version of it! Maybe with a 800V arcitecture!
Hi Thomas, Great video! Does the illuminated front and rear logos only comes with the GTX? Keep up the good work!
thanks! They said that they want to introduce that also to the existing models I think. Might have been because this was the very first ID7 Tourer that was built
It's part of the exterior package and package plus, if you order it now. Before June it was not included
Great car, I drove the sedan, I preferred the Tourer, but chose the Model Y. It is just too expensive
Is the facelift coming with real buttons? I hate this touch crap.
i test drove the id.7 for about 2 hours and I did not once accidentally touch anything
the new Passat has real buttons, no touch, on the steering wheel
@@HanYou2I test drove it an entire weekend, and I never got any accidental touches either.
It seems you have the exterior package plus, shouldn't the logo be illuminated like it is for th GTX? I ordered a Pro S tourer fully loaded and it's included in the specs
I think so too! Maybe because this is the first vehicle built it didnt have it yet
I saw an ID/7 on the road, it looked really narrow. How is that narrow profile being hidden on the inside?
It may seem to be narrow- that’s because the id7 is a little bite higher than your average sedan due to the big battery in the floor
I did not know you were 189 6’2. Thank you for letting us know 3 times 😂
you wont believe how many questions about my height I get with each video 😄
@@autogefuehl 😂😂 no worries. You probably look taller than 6’2 based on the height to weight ratio. Regardless, fantastic work and love the channel.
Cheers m8! 😎
@@autogefuehlit's actually an important information, when evaluating how you look in th car
Decent job from VW
Thomas, the BMW i4 actually outsold the Model 3 in H1 2024 in Germany and even the EQE came close. Cosidering midsize/executive EV sedan prices, I'd say go cheap (Model 3 SR) or full-size (ID.7 Touring). Anyway, competition is always good for consumers. With ID.7, i5, EQE as well as the upcoming A6 (plus foreign imports Model 3/ET5 and 7/Seal etc), we'll finally see options in this segments.
you can compare id7 and model 3 by price. But in size it is more like the model S.
Otherwise I fully agree, I doesn’t make any sense.
ya good point !
How does this compare to Scoda superp?

Would love this in the US, but I understand why we will probably never see it.
Give me an ID Buzz any day of the week!! I would prefer to see the ID7, renamed the ID Passat!!
Anyone know what its like to sit in the back in cargo mode? Suspect we will leave it in that as standard, our daughter is still in a car seat so shoulkd be fine - but is it ok for an adult to sit like that?
More upright but still ok, depends on personal preference. Just what you could also do is just use the Cargo setup for 1/3 or 2/3
@@autogefuehl yeah 1/3. 2/3 is a good shout
Definitely this one looks much better. I do not like the look of Id7. But in thia eatate version I would buy it. Of course, is way too expensive. But otherwise would be nice.
The interior space is also way too big, while the boot is rather small.
After seeing the new superb I really want Skoda to make their own version of the id7
15.20 Oh Thomas you old charmer you!
But why do Volkswagen insist on putting the chargeport on the right side which is the wrong side and not the left side which is the right side?!
It is European standard… also for ICE cars.
When will VW replace the steering wheel with a model with normal buttons? I believe the VW boss said they will do it when they facelifted the id3.
With this: th-cam.com/video/8flSRQXdrtE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=F3BWbatciPwczsmy
The buttons in my Seat Leon are great. Same steering wheel, different buttons. Makes no sense and it's a choice VW actively makes.
Yes indeed. The most important Assistant systems like ACC etc are standard anyway however, so I really wonder what makes the difference there

Love the car.hate the dash.It makes no difference to me how good the touch screen has improved. No proper buttons = no purchase
Volume is on the steering wheel and climate I set to 20 degrees in the winter, 23 in the summer in AUTO mode and forget about it.
I still don’t get it why these type of wheels are all the same.. i mean from right side they ‘point’ to the backward and from the left side they ‘point’ forward. I mean what’s the science behind this configuration? How does it work with the aerodynamic of the car?🤔
Otherwise the review is top.
I’d rather wait a bit before i consider ordering an electric VW
Really annoying that we can't get the ID7 in Norway without the glass roof and still keep the DCC and double glass front side windows. It's in the same exterior pack option.
That big glass roof is not very good for cold climate.
indeed both not good for cold nor very hot
What's with all the camera glitches?
What do you mean?
There are no camera glitches.
They got the design spot on
Love your shoes, Thomas! What Nike model is that? 😬
I’m sure you meant to say 2.2 and 2.4 tones?
nope
@@autogefuehl but it can’t be…a Lotus Emira weighs 1.4 tonnes!
Not sure if you are referring to the weight, but what I stated was the maximum towing capacity for RWD and AWD version :) The _weight_ of this vehicle is of course way above 2 tons, 2,2 or 2,3 t depending on the version.
so handsome! as well as the wagon
The high belt line kinda makes it look like an MPV.
I like it how you get a free TV when you buy this car
In your last ID.7 video you have promised me that you would measure the opening of the fifth tailgate over the rear bumper as soon as you will have a Tourer variant available, I expected you to keep your promise. Unfortunately, that didn't happen...
It is NOT a replacement of the Passat but an addition. Only in Norway or Denmark will EVs replace ICE cars. In our summerholiday we drove through Germany and BENELUX. Allmost no EVs on the road - compared to the amount of EVs in Denmark.
VW just makes the best cars for the price....
Id 7 PRO S ? Vs std?
The difference is the battery size. Pro has 77kWh net. The Pro S has 86 kWh net
VW and Audi are both missing the market in the USA with their lack of vehicle offerings.
no worries, they are missing the market in Europe as well...not even talking about China. People in Europe are asking for cheap EVs to get around town and they release 80k cars or 40k ID.3 that is buggy and feels super cheap inside.

None of them. I have zero desire to go out and buy any EV of any type at any price. I see them as more trouble than they're worth. We
So, it seems that this will be pretty much the same price as the 2wd electric Macan. I know which I'd go for...

still don't understand this obsession with legacy car makers of giving barely any power to their electric cars, making them just as slow as their ICE version, whats the point of making an electric car with instant torque if you give it 150hp for 2.5tons, feels very intentional to make Electrics seem worse, which doesn't do them any benefit against the competition
But imagine the range if they did that.
This is more powerful than an ICE version, actually. Way more than any Passat
