I got one in 2020 for my birthday, and its awesome. Its a 2018 first year in Vintage white, and it's just everything ive asked Fender to do to the Mustang fir decades. Basically, since I was 12, ive emailed Fender to "American Standardize" certain guitars. Theyve done all 3, Jaguar, Jazzmaster, and Mustang now, with this one. Its great, that bridge is a stellar upgrade off the originals.
My first electric guitar was a burgundy early 70's Competition Fender Mustang with the white stripe on the lower part of the body. I bought in in 1978 for $150. How I wish I still had that guitar now!
Wow, what a deal you got on that. When i replace pickups on my classic vibe, Mustang it will be a little more than you got in an American mustang. You done well. Good demo.
I've decided to subscribe to your channel you seem like the most down to earth guy on you tube no big ego and you answered me when i asked you a question on the s3 so thanks for your attitude man👍
You're the kind of guy that you could jam with and get a great balance and magic sound easily like when I jam with my old buddies none of that volume competition and ego crap just a soulful blend you can feel, gotta know when to turn down or up a little, I scolded my grandson when he starting sucking on me and he immediately got on a groove😂 you ain't no hack Eric not being a KA just being honest I'm looking forward to more of your channel
Nice review. I haven't seen many people playing these on youtube so i enjoyed this. I'm a smaller guy so I like Mustangs quite a bit, and I've owned one of these American Perfomer Mustangs (in yellow) for a few years. I did pay full price for my mine, but I agree with you that I wouldn't want it as my only guitar either. I get what you're saying about your initial feelings about the pickups. I kind of felt that too, and for a while, i turned it into a hot-rodded mustang by installing a Dimazio Tone-Zone S (bridge) and a Pro-track (neck). That fattened up the sound and dramatically improved the sustain... but I eventually started to miss the original Yosemite pickups so I switched back to them. Something about the thin, blank-slate sound and lack of sustain somehow keeps me honest.
Thanks! Sounds like yours has had a bit of a journey! Interesting that you went back to the stock pickups. It definitely has a unique sound and character that has a place in my collection.
Good review!!! I only have this one in sonic blue and a Taylor GS Mini-E Rosewood plus. It loves modulation pedals. It can pull out some good hillbilly tones too…Hendrix tones as well. It is not an only guitar for most players, I Agee, but it is all I need. I like the short scale tone.
the greatest part of the original design was the out of phase switching tones that you can't get with that one as is. I miss my 1964 black fender mustang I never should have traded it
I would buy and mod a Squire Mustang. Obviously, Fender USA guitars are a bit too pricy to do that with. The main reason I wouldn't want one in the standard configuration is that single coil pickups really annoy me for the amount of electrical interference they pick up and how painfully bright they can be in the bridge position would lead me to swap them out for humbuckers. I might be tempted to try something like Seymour Duncan hot-rails or possibly mini-humbuckers as there just don't seem to be many guitars with those on them being sold these days.
Respectfully disagree…it’s a very fun guitar and the shorter scale doesn’t bother me at all. I took it to practice a few nights ago on a whim and it held its own just fine alongside the other guitar I took that evening…an SG.
@@EJBGuitar I tried a jaguar a couple years ago and loved everything about it but ended up selling it because the 24” kept tripping me up. I really wanted it to work out. Oh well. mustangs are a ton of fun though. Enjoy that thing!
No. Fender calls them “jumbo” and while I don’t think they are jumbo - at least what I consider jumbo (like Dunlop 6100) they are larger than what I’m used to seeing on Fenders. Maybe similar to 6105 frets.

I had a 69' back in 96 I bought in Chicago, but mine was a CAR. Very good guitars. I miss mine like I died by half ever since its been gone.
Awesome sounding mustang.
Thanks for checking it out!
New World Man was a nice surprise. Thank you for that.

Great playing and song choices

@@EJBGuitar you're welcome
Something about 3TSB with that pearloid pickguard on a Mustang that looks delicious, moreso than on a Strat. Not sure why. Nice axe.
Really love your channel ...love the guitars ...that's quite a collection you got there.
Oh thanks so much man…appreciate that!

Yeah, I do not like the phase switches…never really been a fan of that so don’t miss that feature in the least.

I wish I could get a deal like that...
The mustang is probably my favourite fender model. I love mine and would never part with it
$500 Mustang!?!? Yeah that’s a fantastic deal
eddie van halen went with alnico 2 for his cistom humbucker ...
Its scale is fun for a minute.. good for a beginner.. small hands.. etc.. just not versatile enough unless you love it..

24”’scale is a no fly zone for me. Otherwise I’d buy one in a minute.
I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but I dig it. I like to have a wide variety in my guitars.

The frets on the performer mustang are like speed bumps not that good for bends/lead work.
These frets aren’t jumbo, but I don’t find any problems with bending or soloing on it.

Did you have the frets changed' wire size?
No.

Is that Kenny Wayne shepherd
Not sure what you’re referring to, but no I didn’t play any KWS.
I think I heard some Billy Squier!
