    there's too much hate on the classic princesses smh!! they're not meant to be the overtly feminist stories of today, they were made at a different time but each classic princess still has her merits. being kind and hardworking like cinderella and snow white are absolutely important skills that are strong and inspiring too! I feel like modern feminism often overlooks traditionally feminine skills or traits as "not girl power" :(

      Honestly, I think the difference is that Tangled has a natural fan base that popped up without much help from Disney marketing. I honestly believe there are many Tangled fans who loved the movie and thus clamor for more Tangled stuff. I don't think Disney is giving undo attention to Tangled.
      Stitch, on the other hand, seems to be a character that Disney is actively pushing on people, trying to make him a star. Sure, he has a few natural fans, but I don't think crowds of people were clamoring for more and more Stitch merchandise, and shows, and Stitch sticker on the WDW monorails, and castle decorations, and an attraction, and so on. (OK, the Ohana breakfast is super popular. That's one point where my argument breaks down.)
      I think the Tangled fan base is bigger and more devote than the Stitch fan base, but Disney pushes Stitch more trying to make him more popular or acting like he is as popular as Rapunzel when he isn't. Just my opinion.

    I think Figment is more for Gen X and up! The love for him makes more sense when you factor in the old version of the ride/80s family vacation nostalgia.

    • @lijohnyoutube101
      @lijohnyoutube101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Figment is my fave Disney cultural icon, it’s THE representation of ‘the magic’
      Gen X :)
      The old EPCOT was so innovative, it was like every inventors, dreamer, reader, intellectual, scientist paradise. It was MAGIC but like real magic, like magic you could actually dream about and see come to life and at the pinpoint was Figment. Saying that our world of progress and science was built upon Figments of imagination. And the cast members would ask about your dreams as you got off the ride and you could get special cards for idea creation!
      As a person that grew up to be a scientist, the EPCOT of the 80’s and Figment were like my personal magic happy place. They have RUINED EPCOT. Yes its still a fun place but absolutely nothing like its original self. Its a shadow of its glory :(
      If the only ‘Figment’ you know is the sort of lame in comparison ride character you are basing him on a shadow of what he represented!

    One of my hot takes is that It's a Small World in WDW should be moved into Epcot and then that space in Fantasyland should be re-themed to a Tangled boat ride where the final large room is the lantern scene. This would make sense in the park as well since the Tangled bathrooms are right beside It's a Small World. And Small World would fit perfectly with the World Showcase if it replaced The American Adventure 🤔

    I get the Aurora criticism (although I'll always have a soft spot for her because she was my favorite princess when I was little), but I feel like it's an unfair criticism because people always forget that she's not even the main character of her movie--the fairies are! And I could write an entire essay on why Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather are absolute feminist ICONS. I mean, Philip, we love you, but they low-key did all the work👀👀

    I totally see Snow White as having girl power. After fleeing the castle to save her life, she moves in with 7 guys and basically takes over running the place. Remember the wash your hands before eating scene? OK yes, she cooks and cleans vs turning into an engineer or lumberjack or whatever, but I don't see her as letting any guys boss her around. And why can't she be strong and also cook and enjoy cleanliness?
    Cinderella wasn't craving getting married to a rich guy. She just wanted a night of fun to get away from all the chores and mistreatment loaded on her by her step mother and step sisters. Plus, it was a period piece and a kids movie, so to fit the theme it's not like she could have won her freedom by taking her step mom to court or by, um, doing away with her step mom and step sisters in the middle of the night or poisoning their dinner or whatnot. Instead, she went to the ball, just acted like her normal good self and earned the admiration of the prince who was also rightfully disgusted by the toxic behavior of Lady Tremaine, Drizella, and Anastasia. By the way, I would say those last 3 are the characters in that movie most lacking "girl power." It was those three who were chasing after the Prince. Cinderella just wanted a night off from work and a nice change of scenery and got something extra as a reward for being a good person.

    My only problem with the splash mountain retheming is I don’t think princess and the frog makes sense for Frontierland theming. So it would of been better with something like Pocahontas or Brother Bear

    • @issy.tws18

      Princess and the Frog Mtn does make sense for Disneyland in California since the ride is on the boundary of Critter Country and New Orleans Square. I agree, Princess and the Frog Mtn doesn't really fit in WDW Frontierland. I hadn't thought of Brother Bear; I think that would fit thematically, but I don't know of any memorable show scenes that could be installed in the ride.
      Pocahontas maybe in terms of theme, music, memorable scenes to recreate... But I think Disney is trying to avoid the kinds of controversy linked with further fictionalizing a real Native American person these days. So I don't see that happening.
      I think Disney figured Princess and the Frog Mtn would be a great fit in California and decided to save some cash reusing the idea at WDW vs. doing a different redesign in each park. That and to promote Tiana a bit more.

    • @ccm1767
      @ccm1767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think we would both agree that many of the best Disney attractions were original and not based on movies. Some possible examples: Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, The Matterhorn, all of the original EPCOT Center and much of Epcot today, Dinosaur at DAK, etc.
      Parts of Disneyland on opening day in 1955 were themed in part to recent Disney movies and TV shows, so it isn't like theming the parks to other intellectual properties is completely new. And I have a sentimental attachment to some of those, especially Peter Pan's Flight and Dumbo. (Maybe Tower of Terror as well, but Twilight Zone isn't Disney IP.) But Disney can and does make some great rides not based on
      I do like Disney movies, but I have always liked WDW better.

    I love controversial Disney opinions lol! I have one myself and I know I'm in the minority: I'm not so sure about bringing politics into it however. It may just be me, but I think there is a time and place for everything. The Walt Disney Company is free to share their opinions and stances, as most large corporations do, but for Disney influencers, I disagree. And this is coming from someone with a degree in political science. I spent four years studying and analyzing every current event, the good, bad, and ugly, and Disney was usually the best outlet to get away from it. Politics and activism can be a good thing, but sometimes it needs to stay in certain arenas and not infiltrate others :)
