    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BH050714 I took a picture of the clock at Haunted Holiday Mansion at Disneyland and then got to work. The bottom part is made from 3/4” MDF and the top is made 1/8” plywood. The face is almost like a plexiglass material. The wreath was a 36” grapevine wreath from Michaels with some holly and berries added. It’s a pretty involved build but if you are comfortable with saws and routers and electrical work I can try to find pictures of the process. You can message me @nostringsrunning on Instagram.

      I made a scallop cut on the PVC. The scallop cut allows the basketball to sit more forward like a spine and skull. Without that cut it will look like a lollipop. I then drilled a couple of holes in PVC so that I could run zip ties through it and around the basketball. It’s been 10 years and I haven’t had to fix it once. Hope this helps.

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Barbara Vance Jack’s head is a basketball with a mask over it! The skeleton of it is made of PVC and the “Sandy Claws” suit is made out of felt. As far as Oogie, his skeleton is also PVC and his body is burlap. He is stuffed with poly fill. Super light and nothing absorbs water.

    • @barbaravance6774
      @barbaravance6774 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NoStringsRunning Thanks so much for responding. I started on my skeleton but got side tracked. I was goingto mould his head but, that mask is really well done. You did a great job on the whole thing! I'm jealous! I hoped to have my Jack ready for Halloween but, no luck. I'm using pvc for the upper body but reg. Pipe for his lower. I'm worried about wind. I want to make his costume so I can change him from reg. Jack to Santa Jack. My fear was that he would get water logged.😆 I bought burlap for Oogey. My son is working on him. We want him to be under a black light because we're going to take twine and jave his bugs spilling out. And that will shpw up after painted with the light. I'm trying to avoid a ton of tear down between holidays. My neighbor keeps trying to out do everyone! But, all of his decorations were those plug in, blow up things. Which is fine. Just not our style. I have a talking Jack , Sally and zero from a stote for now. The zero I'll keep. He's great. But, needs a little bit better support. We had a few really cute kids this year go nuts over them. One little girl, witch, kept asking her Mom, "Why are they here to visit?" Which just made us all smile. And a little boy who did't want to leave. He just stared for a long while, then started talking to them and wanted to pet zero.😍 I can't wait for Christmas! Thanks Again.

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Barbara Vance the mask was $14 online super easy, super fast. I’m here in Oregon and my Jack has survived 60 mph plus winds and so much rain. I pounded a 6ft t-post 4 feet into the ground and Jacks leg slides over that and that’s all I have holding him up. I don’t want to use wires or anything else to tie him down because I want everything to look realistic and free standing. I tried the black light on my Oogie but it didn’t work for me.

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jonny Pepper he ended up being exactly 10 feet tall which made him very visible and perfect for where he was placed in our yard. I drew a picture of the way I wanted him positioned and then scaled it up using the art of mathematics. I don’t know if I could do it again if I tried. I think it was a fluke that I got it correct the first time! Hopefully this helps.

    Sorry I’m spamming your comments. I just figured out your candy cane pipes are abs pipes. My next question is how did you make the banner? Where did you get supplies for it? I want to make a banner that won’t break from wind or get ruined by rain that will hold on to those abs pipes. Hopefully I hear from you before next month. Lol

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem at all. The banner is 2 2x4s run parallel and a piece of 1/8 plywood screwed to the 2x4s. I painted it white with some good exterior white paint and then my wife painted the Christmas Town lettering by pausing the movie on an image of the sign. Once complete dill holes the size of the base of a C9 Christmas light. I can’t remember the exact size, maybe 7/8” to 1”. Place the christmas light string behind the sign lined up to the holes and screw the C9 bulb in from the front. Hope this makes sense.

    Awesome set up. Any tips on how you made the Nightmare clock above garage??

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Farleigh I took an image from Haunted Holiday Mansion at Disneyland and used that as a reference. I then went to Michaels and purchased a 36” grape vine wreath and used the picture and wreath as references. Everything I do is by feel so I can’t get too specific about measurements, I just go by what looks right. The whole structure is MDF and the clock face and numbers are a white opaque acrylic. I used fake jewels from Joanne’s Fabric simulate the fasteners. I wish I could remember more of what I did. If you attempt to do the same and get stuck, reach out to us. We are more than willing to try to help. @nostringsrunning on insta or @mooreblox. Good luck!

    Okay I just made the angry wreath and the clock from art supplies. Pretty stoked. I have a question, what pipes did you use for the candy cane poles and how did they keep up? They look like pvc. I can easily get some but not sure how I can hold them up for the front lawn gate. I’m like so inspired by your house.

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on! I’m stoked for you. The candy canes are 3.5” ABS pipe. PVC will work as well and probably better so you don’t have to paint white and then red. I painted my ABS red and then when dried I wrapped the pipe in 2” painters tape in the candy cane pattern then painted white. Peel the tape before dried to get clean lines. The tops of the candy cane poles are styrofoam rings and spheres from any craft store painted golden yellow and stuck together with tooth picks. Hope this helps.

      Sorry for the late reply. I cut the top of the PVC pipe like a crescent moon so the basketball nestles right to it. Santiago Gaxiola the only thing I can suggest is using green cords in grass and run them straight and taught and stake them. Brown or black cords in areas with mulch. Tuck cords into any crevice that might be near. If I had a prop with a cord I would make sure to secure it to the back of the prop all of the way to the ground. Hope this helps.

    What do you use to keep your lights straight on the roof? And how do you place them

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ramtruck21 I use a heavy duty stapler with a 3/8 staple. It’s not recommended but I’ve done it for 20 years with no problems. I staple on each side of the bulb socket to stand them up more securely. Asphalt shingles can be tricky to staple into and sometimes the staple will deflect. Be sure not to staple through the wire and make sure it’s not too tight so it pinch the copper wire inside causing it to break. Hope this helps!

    How did you do the oggie boggie

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully this makes sense. I printed out a small picture of Oogie and then rented an overhead projector. I then projected the Oogie image onto the 8 plus feet of burlap that I had and traced the image with a sharpie. I doubled up the burlap and cut and inch or so wider than the sharpie line. I then had two identical pieces of burlap in the shape of Oogie. Since burlap is hard to sew since it’s so loose, I folded the extra inch or so over and added seam tape and sewed. At that point once all of the seam tape is secured, you can put your two pieces together and see them to each other like a huge 80’s pillow. Stuff with batting and you’re done. Feel free to ask more questions or DM is @nostringsrunning on insta. Oh yeah. I also had a crude PVC skeleton inside that gave support and was the way I mounted him. Please reach out to us!!

    How were you able to make Jack's hands?

    • @NoStringsRunning
      @NoStringsRunning  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Naut P Jack was made with 2 inch pvc so I used a 2 inch pvc pipe cap on the end of the arm and attached the fingers to the cap. I used .75 inch wood dowels to make the fingers making angles cuts on 3 short pieces to make 1 slightly bent finger. Once the finger sections were glued together, I screwed them into the pipe cap from the inside of the pipe cap the slid the cap onto the arm. Hopefully this answers your question.

      We decided to sell everything in 2018 and buy property and to build a couple of tiny houses. We both work full time and are building the houses and taking care of the property 100% ourselves. We just don’t have the time anymore.
