Thank you, I've been following this for a few years and trying to direct people to do research before purchasing or using these. Problem is that many people have used them successfully and not had a problem and those posts confirm what others want to hear, it's easy and no issues. There are many other faults of these masks beyond or compounding the CO2 issue: hard to remove in a panic, water intrusion requires full removal unlike the two piece that is very easy to clear the tube or the mask, and the inability to communicate in an emergency when the mask is on (this alone should make them illegal for use on open ocean tours/excursions). But, like any gear too often snorkeler undertake this activity with no research, and don't test their gear in shallow water first. Finding you have a fitment issue in deep water or rough seas is a potentially tragic mistake.
Is there any full face that incorporates a direct mouth piece. I would think that such a device would merge the best of both worlds. An old school mouthpiece to clear CO2 plus a full face to give a nice view.
Thank you hope it helps bring more awareness to these masks. I know there's a lot of videos on this subject but the more that gets out there hopefully it can prevent a tragedy.
Shaun, I thought the full-face mask would be good because I have a goatee like you, and every mask I have ever used leaks. Do you have a secret to keep the snorkel mask from leaking with a goatee? Please share.
I’ve used a full face mask. I’m new to snorkeling and almost feel it has to do with diving under. Just my thought, but don’t know much about this. It does make me worry though.
You should be concerned honestly 🙏 I have snorkeled since I was 18 I’m 57 now, these full face masks restrict your breathing and don’t allow your exhale to fully escape the mask. I would love to talk you out of using them if I could, out of sincere concern. The two piece mask and snorkel have been used for many decades and have been proven to be safe. Accidents can still happen of course but not from breathing your own carbon dioxide (our exhale) keep researching and you will find a lot more testimonials saying the same thing. Wish you the best, stay safe and have fun snorkeling 🤿
Itʻs not just about co2 build up either. With a regular snorkel itʻs easy to blow out the tube or spit out the mouth piece hands-free and get your head up out of the water to breath while paddling. Meanwhile these full face masks are hard to remove even with both hands because of the double strap behind the head and itʻs impossible to clear the water without removing the mask if the seal is breeched or the tube is over topped by a wave! Inhale 2TBS of water and you can drown…
Absolutely! Very poor design ! Every breath makes the mask compress, because no air is getting in or very little. So scary that people continue to buy them unaware, we do hope the word gets passed around🙏🙏
I've used a full-face mask a few times in Hawaii and it's OK if you do not exert yourself but the minute your heart rate and oxygen requirements go up, this design does not deliver. I came close to drowning the first time I figured this out. Had to remove the mask and fortunately I could just hold my mouth out of the water standing on my toes. Any deeper and I would have been in trouble... But as I alluded to, I was find on subsequent swims as long as I kept my movements gentle and operated below my limits.
Ooh I get it now, the couple snorkeling in Maui were celebrating the knowledge of the child she was carrying, they found out they were having a girl, the trip was a celebration before having the child. There is a link in this video description to watch two TH-cam news flashes about the drowning, and the exact details of this sad tragedy.
@@drink15 We do realize that but to some it may be new news . We recently talked to some people about this and they had no idea about the dangers of this type of mask . They had been thinking about purchasing one . We are hoping someone who has not heard can hopefully be warned and stay safe . ❤️

Hi thanks for watching ! All I do is trim my mustache down shorter and tighten the strap pretty tight with the traditional mask 👍
Hope that helps !

Thanks for sharing, have you gone back to the traditional set up for safety?
snorkling just after childbirth....might need to read that a 2nd time..
Hi, thanks for watching 🙌 do you mean that you’re going to snorkel right after having a baby?
