Hike Through History Mount Rubidoux Riverside CA | Easy Hike Through Culture & Faith
Welcome to Hikebytes!
Join us as we explore Mount Rubidoux in Riverside, California, a historic landmark with cultural, religious, and historical roots. Known for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Inland Empire, this hike offers more than natural beauty - it's a journey through time.
🏞 History of Mount Rubidoux
Mount Rubidoux has been a staple of Riverside's landscape since the late 19th century. Originally named after the Rubidoux family, who were key figures in Riverside's early development, the mountain has become a symbol of the city's rich history and cultural growth.
✝ The Christian Faith & Spiritual Significance
One of the features of Mount Rubidoux is its connection to Riverside’s Christian heritage. In 1907, Frank A. Miller, a local businessman and philanthropist, began efforts to develop the mountain into a religious and cultural symbol. The Peace Tower, dedicated in 1925, stands as a tribute to Christian values and the belief in global peace. It was designed to represent the spirit of goodwill and harmony, offering visitors a place for contemplation and prayer.
✝️ At the Peak a large cross stands as a testament to Jesus the Son of God, the Savior of the world. Frank Miller bought the mountain in 1906 and built a narrow, winding road leading to a huge cross on the summit. This cross, erected in 1907, was dedicated to local missionary Father Junipero Serra, and two years later was home to the nations first Easter sunrise service.
🫶🏻The "Friendship Bridge" at Mount Rubidoux is a monument dedicated to Frank A. Miller, a prominent Riverside community leader, and symbolizes his commitment to international friendship and world peace; it was built in 1925 by neighbors and friends of Miller to honor his vision for the mountain and his ideals of peace.
🕊️The Tower of Peace;
In late 1925, a monument dedicated to world peace and justice for all was erected on iconic Mount Rubidoux in honor of Riverside's forever peace and justice ambassador: Frank Augustus Miller. It was Frank Miller that had the initial vision of what Mount Rubidoux could become for Riverside.
All in all Mt Rubidoux is a historic experiance !

Do you have to worry about bears?
We did not see any although we did hear from some people there was a black bear that went through their campsite at night. No Grizzlies here!
Beautiful trail! I was wondering, is it okay to camp up there overnight? Or is it strictly for hikes? Cheers!
It really is beautiful out there! Yes you can camp at Alger creek camp . You will need a permit to camp overnight . Check with the forest rangers for more details and AllTrails in our description! Thank you so much for watching and hope you get out there ! 😄😄
Black canyon 7 miles west is easier. Unless you are in athletic training.Cedar falls hike is a intermediate elevation distance hike not easy. The King snakes kill the Western Red rattlesnake.
Thank you for the tip👍👍😊😊
Nearby and go here usually weekly. There are also trails around the main path that can be more intense, if one is looking for a more strenuous workout. Lots of different ways to try out.
Thank you ! We noticed there were other trails and were wondering where they led to ..
Wow 😮you should organize this hike on meetup, I’d love to join y’all
Thank you ! We may do that in the near future that would be fun ! Summertime is the best for this waterfall hike .
That’s pretty cool, love the views and the history of this hike
Thank you! It was sunny but a bit hazy so on a clear day you would be able to see for miles! 😄😄
Cool hike 😎
It was a great hike to see the views and learn about the history thanks for watching😄😄
Neat history too, thanks for sharing.
Yes it was pretty interesting!
Nice, looks like this is near Moreno Valley! I'll need to check it out next time I'm visiting that area.
We enjoyed the culture and history, thank you 🙏
Very thorough tour and narrative description of this hike. Good job!
We're glad you enjoyed the tour!
Truly an adventure in hiking
Great hike to the top!
Nice views. Heidi is right, on a clear day it looks like you can see really far from up there.
Yes indeed, also it had an interesting history too
This hike was a fun easy hike to the the top of the peak. Great place to reflect and see endless views of the surrounding city and a sunrise or sunset!
Beautiful work, some views are just unreal! Epic scenery guys 👏
Thank you 🙏 the history brought us to this Urban historic hike for something different and inspiring, we enjoyed it 😊
Where’s the application to go hiking with you guys?
Thank you! We may work out a subscriber hike in the future. 😄😄
Looks magically enchanting this year. Thks for sharing ur gorgeous vid experience with us all!!!!!
Thank you !! We loved it and were absolutely mesmerized by the spectacular artistic use of the lights ! We have never been before and wanted to share in hopes others may go and enjoy as well!
Shaun, I thought the full-face mask would be good because I have a goatee like you, and every mask I have ever used leaks. Do you have a secret to keep the snorkel mask from leaking with a goatee? Please share.
Hi thanks for watching ! All I do is trim my mustache down shorter and tighten the strap pretty tight with the traditional mask 👍 Hope that helps !
Looks wonderful! How long do they do that for? - I see it in the description! Thanks
It was awesome you definitely should go see it !
Thank you for sharing the beautiful Descanso Gardens Christmas show. It was like a wonderland.
It truly is a magical place to visit during the holidays!
Very beautiful!! Good job on the walk through
Thank you, we had a blast walking through it!
These shots are marvelous, delightful!
Awsome❤
Thanks 🙏
Looks like a nice place to visit during the holiday season.
It was magical! 😍😍
Icehouse saddle trail l ads to my favorite wild Southern California mountain, Cucamonga Peak; harder route up is the Middle Fork from Lytle Creek.
It is such a beautiful trail especially in the fall . We haven't gone to Cucamonga Peak yet but definitely on our list. Thank you for the tip about the harder route!👍👍
Very beautiful, thanks for your video
We are happy to hear you enjoyed our video! Thank you so much for watching !😊😊
Wear a helmet, that lady is dangerous!! 😂
😂😂😂😂
I miss the Griffith park trails 👣 Buddy and I found an old abandoned route and called it the unicorn trail 😅
That's always so much fun to find hidden off trail routes .Did you find anything interesting along the way on your adventure? Thank you for sharing! 😊😊
Wow, I haven't really hike in this area. Thanks for sharing! I bet it's an amazing spot to watch the sunset with those views of the city.
There are quite a few fun hikes to do at Griffith park . You should check it out!
Always neat to see old structures that have been abandoned. I didn't realize there is an abandoned zoo over there.
It is ! It's pretty interesting !
Such a beautiful scenery, views from the top are gorgeous! 👏
Thanks so much, it’s a great Los Angeles urban hike!
I’ve done that trail. Had no idea it was called bee rock. It really is a nice view up there. I took some great photos of that edge with the gated fence
That's awesome glad you got up there! Which way up did you go? We did not plan on going on that trail ,we just thought we were going to do just the Old Zoo trail , but then we saw it along the way and eventually saw the signs and just had to go up and see that beehive looking rock. So glad we did .. it has such great views ! Wish that fence wasn't there but we get it .. as a safety deterrent even though there are holes in the fence. Thanks for watching!
Nice job 🙂
Thank you👍😊😊
Challenging going threw that rocky area. Watch out for loose rocks always.
Yes that's why we took the other route!👍👍
😃👍thanks for sharing i have never been there .
You should definitely check it out!
A lot of us hike because we want to get out of the cities in into nature, so we enjoy the rain as well. You make some good points, as there are many trails that become extremely dangerous in the rain.
Yes! It's important to always be aware of the weather conditions and be prepared for the unexpected.
😮❤nice
Awesome hike to a Waterslide!
That's beautiful. Over my rez we have a little warm spring creek. Not as nice as a waterfall lol.
Thank you for watching! You are so fortunate to live near a spring! To have nature out your door sounds amazing! We traveled about an hour and half to this beautiful waterfall , well worth it😊😊
so from the first waterhole u go down stream ?
You got it ! You are climbing over and around boulders it can be very slippery to see the waterfalls . Please if you go be careful and wear good rubber soled shoes. We climbed back straight up the slope to the trail and followed the Burkhart trail to the main waterfall where there is rope to help you down.
So wait . . . a ton of great information was provided here, but one of the most important things folks want to know is missing. How LONG is the hike, out-and-back, to enjoy the two peaks?? In terms of miles.
Thanks for watching ! It was about a 6 mile round trip hike to both peaks. Incredible views from both !
Im in southern utah, flash floods are no joke, you must always be aware of the weather in the backcountry. It can be terrifying
So true 👍🏻 I hope many learn from the warning than to have to learn the hard way, great advice to know the weather or have an escape plan or shelter. We had only gone up a mile that day in this video with a 7% chance of rain, and it rained ! We got down asap, not worth the risk
Epic hike through the San Gabriel Mountains! 🏞🌄 Tackling both Mount Markham and Mount Lowe in one day is no small feat, but your step-by-step guide makes it look like an amazing adventure. Thanks for sharing this ultimate hiking guide, Hikebytes! Can't wait to try it out myself! 👣🔥 sub and like 29
Thanks, it was an epic experience and especially for Heidi, her first real mountain climb. We all enjoyed the views and the rush. Welcome to our channel, glad to have you on board. Looked at you hikes, they look awesome 🙌
What a journey indeed!!!❤❤❤
It was a lot of fun! Thank you for watching😊😊
@ 😍😍😍
Before I made videos for TH-cam on my first summit to Mt. Whitney on my way down to trail camp a thunderstorm appears out of nowhere on a sunny summer day and got all wet including all my gear and tent ( rookie mistake ) so I had to get to lower elevation as fast as possible and it was absolutely a very scary and terrifying experience. Lesson learned, never underestimate Mother Nature!! Happy trails my friends 🥾🥾
Thank you Lopez so much for sharing your story! Wow that's really scary ! Yes , It can change so quickly in an instant no rain in the forecast and all of a sudden ⛈️we are so glad you made it down safely! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 *Everyone reading this please stay safe out there ! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
@ Thank you 🙏
is hermit falls open too ?
Sorry, not at this time
@ still closed oh well thanks for the notice…………..
Sure, thanks for watching 😎
Wild story! Yeah, I defiantly try to avoid it, especially in areas like that, but it depends on where I am.
Sometimes it's unavoidable. We got caught in light rain the other day and had to quickly turn around. Thank goodness we were not too far into the hike.
@@hikebytes good thing you weren't too far. I was worried about that the other day too. I might go out tomorrow quickly morning. I'm hoping it's not too bad then. I won't be driving up the mountain though.
Be safe my friend ! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Have you ever got caught hiking in the rain? What happened ?
Amazing views, love that tunnel as well
Yeah that tunnel is one of the highlights! But those views !!!!😍😍
Great video, we just went there today. Can you be a little more specific about where Slider Rock is? I remember passing by those houses but didn't see it. Thanks!
We are so glad you enjoyed the video and hiked the trail it's a beautiful place ! As for Slider rock if you are hiking on the trail towards the main fall it's shortly after the first creek crossing which you will pass winter creek trail . It's on the right with a sharp turn down a small slope with a cabin above .. it's easier to see it on the way back from Sturtevant Falls ..then it would be on your left. Hope this is helpful and you make it back there . It's getting chilly for a cold plunge🥶🥶
Awsome guys🎉❤
Thanks we had a blast !
What a journey, views are simply breathtaking! Absolutely and honestly breathtaking!
It was so much fun climbing and not knowing what to expect at the peak and seeing those views was amazing!
some of my favorites!
Yeah, both of those are very special.
