  • Chris Pennie is a world-renowned drummer, known for his time in the Dillinger Escape Plan and Coheed and Cambria. He’s also one of the hardest-working people in the business; writer, composer, producer, and engineer.
In 2008 Chris joined vocalist Ron Scalzo and guitarist Brett Aveni to form the highly regarded band Return To Earth. Now, as Return To Earth prepares to release their new album Oblivion, Jamie Hernandez talks to Chris about the album that made him a rock and roll fan, working on commercial and film projects, and why now was the right time to bring back Return To Earth.

This was great. Chris is one of my heroes. I met him and Brian Bennett in a McDonald’s in Japan during a festival called the Beast Feast. We spoke to him, took pictures Brian and Chris signed my shirt. Chris ate my nuggets. I got one of his sticks after they finished playing. It was wedged in between a speaker monitor, I had asked the security guard if he would get it for me, he did and I still have it till this day.

Went to high school with Chris, Adam Doll, John Fulton and Tommy A. Even in 7th grade when we started to play instruments, the speed in witch they progressed was amazing. Glad to see Pennie is still killing it.

My personal Best drummer of all time , and i greatly miss hearing his witchcraft in Dillinger . I met him once in omaha nebraska shortly before he left dillinger and im pretty sure i made him uncomfortable with my obsessive questions about his use of the Ostinato at fast bpms.
