There’s still great animation coming out! It’s just they don’t get promoted much (unless they’re based of off a previously established property like arcane) but I assure you that there have still been really good official animated shows coming out, even between the slop
WTF, I just noticed how expressive her antennae are! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use them to their full potential! It's one of my favorite details in shows that have such beings and having this extra facial features actually be treated as facial features really sells the character design as actually not being human, instead of just a fancy cosplayer. I really love that this is showing how much of a passion project it is! I can't wait to rewatch the pilot a dozen times and live vicariously through each of the characters!
It’s not though this is a terrible false meme. It’s the apex of WATER based life forms on dry land it SUCKS. They are also incredibly vulnerable to parasites. Would you like to have your reproductive parts replaced by a parasite?
Keep it up! I can tell you guys put a lot of thought and passion into this. It isn't some cheap AI generated carbon copy of what other people have already done. It is something you all enjoy, put in the time and hope other people will enjoy as well. I'm looking forward to the pilot episode.
I love her already she's super cute. Based on what I can see about her I bet she gives great hugs. She's my favorite already. Eloy and Ada I think are gonna be my favorite dynamic because I love father daughter relationships in media.
I love her feelers they remind me of the cute giant moths. The crew looks like a cool bunch and the creator is talking about inspirations from OG StarTrek and OG Indiana Jones. The cast looks cool too. I'm hyped.
If her kind has an exoskeleton instead of an endoskeleton then how is she turning her hear and torso like that or making those facial expressions? The tradeoff of an exoskeleton is that it sacrifices flexibility for defense. So shouldn't she be a bit more stiff in her movements compared to us?
You just need enough segments & muscle arrangements. Her torso could be a tube of many narrow rings, & her abdominal muscles arranged tangentially in antagonistic pairs; or she could have a literal wasp waist, something like an arthropod limb joint, which pivots like a ball-&-socket joint, which would also allow her to twist around.
1:05 Careful what you wish for buddy. If the internet likes the character you are guaranteed immortality, but, it comes a heavy cost like a monkey's paw.
@SteamrollerAnimation thanks so much ^^ currently writing the script for one project and been really loving it. Gonna learn ti draw or find and artist to work with to get ut made as a comic first
I once heard a story, about the creator of Kim Possible. After his pitch was accepted, he was taken into the Disney Vault, and shown some...ahem... 'pictures'... fans had drawn of various Disney princesses. And he was told, "This will happen to your show." So... That's going to happen to your show. Just figured I should warn you.
Oh yeah, it's inevitable. But let's hope that the crew pushes on and ignores the wars that the fandoms start within themselves and keep going because I'm super excited for this show.
This looks so cool, can't wait! One of the first things that came to mind about the style was Osmosis Jones idky exactly. Regarding environments, it made me think of a more whimsical Scavengers Reign or maybe Strange World, but I haven't watched that yet.
0:34 I do not agree with this kind of thinking. I felt that one is too anthropocentric, which is not a good thing when designing extraterrestrial lifeforms. There are many other ways to show expressions and build bonds. But I get it, it’s just a cartoon for the younger audience and I shouldn’t think too much about it. I’m still looking forward to the new episode. 😊
I agree, I generally like it when character designs are more creative/less human-like. I also like more atypical expressions of emotions in characters, conveyed through more interesting means. Although, there is nothing inherently wrong with the approach they're taking. Maybe the design they chose would make more sense if her species were actually related to humans somehow.
Indeed. Human appearance is not necessary at all to create a connection, it just needs to be _expressive_ in the right ways. If i may ramble for a bit: Just look at Legion from mass effect, Roz from The Wild robot (though she's still fairly anthropomorphic so maybe Vontra is a better example for nonhumans with relatable expressiveness), maybe GLaDOS and the Cores from Portal, and many others. Hell sometimes it doesn't even need that! Case in point: Roombas (from real life), or even other animals (also from real life), R2-D2, etc. Sometimes going less human seems to paradoxically make them _more_ relatable. I do get that making things human makes it easier to work with and animate though, however in my own opinion it stops it from feeling like they're truly aliens. Even _if_ they add in weird behaviors or traits to compensate, hell sometimes especially so. Can end up making it more jarring instead. The end product still looks good, cute, or even pretty though, but it's not really _alien._ Which i think is a detriment; Differences can create connections too.
I tend to think of lizard-folk and anthros as the 'safe but cool' zone. Human enough to not be too bent up about overthinking things, but alien enough to still go harder on imagination and alien expressions. Like... still exploring a species that's so different from their cold blood, or coming from an egg, and still moving and expressing so differently with a snout or tail, but you don't need to totally go overboard and redesign the entire process of climbing stairs or you can still give them semi-familiar pop culture with just a quirky twist. To me, these guys took a slight step down from that, and still feels like they could have done just a tiny more 'alien' to it, but its still not so bad. On the other hand, if you really go all out and make a complex underground sightless spideroids that speak half their language in metal-scraping mandibles while plucking silk-strings for the punctuation, and really have the time, dedication, and curiosity for that, it pays off in its own big way... for the right audience that ALSO want to commit that kind of time to understand it. That can be amazing. I just don't think going that far is the tone here, and that in itself is definitely understandable.
I have literally been saying this exact thing in their posts. Master hinted at being A MASSIVE HIT... Then it just faded into the background with no new info about it whatsoever...
Yeah, animation usually takes years to write and produce. So when they released the teaser I thought it was in the final phase of production and would take 2-4 years to be released at least. But it says that it still being written. So I guess they just released it to get their name out to a wider audience.
1:03 i’m guessing it combines mammal with an insect or cruse as you said an interesting combination to make this species. I wonder do they reproduce by egging or by live birth And let us remember platypus our egg laying mammals and yet they’re still produce milk 🥛

Can I honestly say that your design philosophy of "making them look more human so the audience connects with her" backfires immensely. This just makes her less believable, less interesting, and HARDER to connect with than if she felt more alien. Not everyone is so shallow that they need their races to look like humans, with some people actively wanting as little human in the asthetics of their character as possible.
