Thanks for the update. Don’t blame you for not filming when everyone is there. I’m sure everyone is on edge working 7 days a week and the pressure to finish up. Hopefully the generator makes life easier when the powers out. Instead of having to get several running and not having enough power.
Andy, that is a first class addition to your dairy operation. It is great to see that your family is building for the future and not just for your current operation. Best wishes in 2025 and beyond.
My Grandfather was a dairyman all of his life and my father was a Virginia State milk tester in his younger life. It’s amazing how far milking and caring for cattle has changed in 100 years. Thanks for the tour Andy. Hope to see a video when it is up and running
Andy amazing facility. Best of luck, I hope everything goes as planned. A lot of money invested. I can't wait to see it in full operation. You and your family have a Happy New Year!!
Awsom video. Thanks for sharing all the progress. That generator looks like a train engine and generator. Alot of work yet to go. It's going to be a great addition to the farm.
Just installed a 72 point Dairymaster rotary here in Northern Ireland, unbelievable way to milk cows, clean, efficient and very cow friendly as there is no herding of cows in and out of parlour, a really stress free operation
Good purchase. I fuel lots of those cummins 50 litre V16 gensets. They make the same size cylinder in a 38 litre V12 also. Some with base tanks some hooked to underground tanks. Hospitals, treatment plants, insurance companies all that. They are excellent. They use less fuel than the big cats to do the same job have less trouble and cost less to service. With everything you have going on at your place an extended outage in the summer with all the fans running will make that engine bark pretty good. The base tanks are a false sense of security in say a bad ice storm if trucks can't get to you for a couple days. It's good to have some fuel hidden than you have in your other tanks. That engine at RPM with almost no load is 1150 gallons in 24 hours. With it's tounge hanging out that base tank is only about two days.
@@FarmingFixingFabricating You will figure out it's burn rate after it completes some weekly exercise tests. Speaking tests do you utilize any sort of UPS strategy, or is it okay for systems to power down and back up during interruptions and ATS events?
Congrats Andy and family. What an astonishing accomplishment. I would love a video on how many family and employees you have , who all milks etc. Do your kids primarily only field and shop work? I bet they know their way around the cows. Love it all
Merry Christmas to you and your family Andy it's got to be quite the chore managing your dairy with all that construction going on. Hopefully the new year brings you peace and prosperity.
Hi Andy, amazing looking Parlor. With the huge amount of Slurry you capture and store, have you considered installing an Anaerobic Digestor on the Farm. That way you could use the cow manure / slurry to produce Biogas. The Biogas can then be used in the diesel generator engine for electricity generation (mix it with diesel to reduce your diesel input costs, whereby the engine will primarily run on Biogas and the diesel is used as a secondary fuel to ignite the biogas in a dual-fuel system. Note that Biogas on its own cannot self-ignite, hence a small amount of diesel mixed is required. It should reduce your operating Diesel costs substantially. The engine will need adjustment to run this. There is also the opportunity to even upgraded to Biomethane and used for vehicle fuel. Note you can run Biomethane on any vehicle designed to be capable of running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), or supplied to the natural gas grid. After digestion the remaining cow manure material can still be put out on the fields as it is still nutrient rich. Not only can you use the Biogas onsite at the Farm yourselves, but you can sell it Commercially too. Digestate remains are also then able to be sold as Organic Fertiliser. Also would be interesting to look into covering the roof with Solar panels to help offset your electric costs of running the new Parlor? I imagine it will use a lot of electricity to run - may be worth considering, especially if there are any incentives from Government Federal or Local Grants available.
Amazing Andy. A long way from the 40 cow dairy my aunt and uncle had in Wisconsin! Thanks for taking us along and I hope you and yours have a great 2025.
Thats a badass genset. We put a bunch of them in for companies over the years, and generally when the customer buys one it shows up at my shop first I unload it, the thing sits here in the door yard for six months and then goes to its new home. So I've spent quite a bit of time looking them over. The best is when they show up and put a load bank on them and really let them have it. What you have there is in my opinion the most common and reliable for sure. Believe it or not I have not heard good things about the cat units, which is crazy to me because I would've thought otherwise based on my experience with truck and equipment engines, but it could be the generator part that gives trouble I'm not sure. Hit me up if you're gonna sell a katolight someday lol. Parlor looks awesome, you guys make it look easy
Thank you for sharing your new equipment. Still would like to see your old parlor. So much to see to take in. Dairy farming surely has changed from the 60's and 70's. But Thank you for the walk through
Impressive. What amazing progress in the journey of the farm. Hard to believe how far the farm has come since I started watching after the Zack Johnson visit. Congratulations and good luck in 2025. Cheers.
@@johnboer5479 Don't want to rub salt into wounds but we have milked 500 cows twice a day since 2009. 250 cows HR with myself and 1 helper. Parlour works only 5 hours a day
1600kW, that's impressive, you can power your neighborhood if necessary. 😁 Andy and family, all the best for 2025 and have a safe and healthy New Year. 🍸🍾🍻
Cummins QSK95 gen set. I worked on the cylinder head valve train development a few years back. Very reliable setup, the only warranty claims are from military operations where they have them in the desert. They get a little over heated in that self contained unit in the desert conditions. The military drop them all over the world for remote portable power. You’ll never wear it out in your operation. Very serviceable with the individual cylinder heads.
pretty nice facility Andy , I've been watching from the beginning they seem to be making good progress really looking forward to the finished product thanks for sharing, Happy New Years to the Hourigan family
Great stuff !! Glad u respect others privacy n let them do their jobs !! There’s alot going on there they need to pay attention to the task at hand !! Happy New Year !! 2025 !!!
Excellent! Future idea: tracking each cow and production averages vs feed conversion/production. Ration and rationale for feeding and process from calving to dry-off. Always fascinating!
Komatsu use the same engine and but maybe not the same they called and alternator for the mining trucks. The fuel tank is think are around 1000 gallons or maybe a little bigger not sure since I retired 14 years ago. That's quite a setup there Andy!
Everything's coming along nicely Andy. Watching from NZ, always interesting to see different systems, lots of rotary parlours here but not many cubicle sheds or housed herds.

If you actually worked in Cummins development than you would know this is not a QSK95. A QSK95 is 95 litres and makes like 4,400 HP
@ I missed where Andy first stated the hp. That would make it a QSK50 or 60. I worked on the valve train development for all of them.
Thanks for the tour, Andy. A fair bit left but it’s all coming together,
Great tour, Andy what’s the estimated time of completion
Should be milking by March
Thanks Andy as onetime dairy farmer I in joy following thing on thing your farm .
