    Thanks Chip! I take in other families’ laundry for a living (about ten loads a day) and my Whirlpool gas dryer has been eating belts left and right-after about 2 months I’m finding the belts shredded and piled around the motor, and the motor pulley is worn smooth. I’ve replaced the rollers every time I replace the belt just to be safe, and the felt seals look great. Most recently I replaced the motor, motor pulley, blower fan, rollers, idler pulley…and this dang thing is grinding and squeaking. The shaft for the left hand roller is grooved, so I get to tear this sucker down again as soon as I receive that and throw it all back together (with, again, a new belt and rollers). Gotta say, it’s been fun learning everything I’ve learned in this process and I can now throw parts on this dryer with the pros, but this is my last attempt-it’s time to look for new dryer! I can’t be down one day every month for repairs. 😂
    But this video explained everything I’m seeing, and helped show me I’m not crazy or missing anything else. Keep it up!
    Update: got the new axle in, new rollers, put the old motor back in (the new one I got off Amazon was rubbing on the drum 😬), new belt and pulleys….and it’s WHISPER QUIET now, just like brand new! And I’m glad Nan be watching for deals on commercial dryers! 😂

    The problem you described with your friend's dryer was exactly the same problem i was experiencing. The drum would spin with little or no clothes in it, but slowed down or completely stopped with a full load. I changed the motor pulley, and sure enough, it's running great again! Thanks putting up these great videos!

    Appreciate all the detail. I replaced a dryer belt, and even though it works, we're getting a burnt rubber smell after more than a month of use. I checked and there's lots of little bits of shredded belt rubber on the motor. I wonder if some problem with the pulley groves that you showed is tearing up the belt?

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That may be your problem. I’d check the drum rollers too. If one is seizing up that will make your belt slip and the rubber on the roller will smell too. Thanks for watching and good luck with your repair.

      Chip and Brando. Adding another reason:
      In my case, kenmore 110168..the front felt a bit old and when drum should seal well it had enough gap for socks and small items get stock. When something goes and gets stuck it will cause it to be be trapped and torn.

    I have replaced my belt now for three different times and it’s been just fine it dried a whole load of clothes I put the next load in and you hear the belt snap and it keeps breaking them in half what could be causing that?

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s probably a bad motor pulley. Here’s a link for a new belt and pulley for a Whirlpool made machine. amzn.to/3Qf4Mro If you don’t have this type of machine look inside the door for your model number and use it to order a new pulley for your machine.

    Appreciate the video. We have a small stackable frigid aire washer and dryer. Well the belt keeps getting stretched out and off the drum. We’ve had it replaced every other week and the technician says it due to overloading. But I’ve kept tabs on the loads and we are doing smaller loads more often with the same issue. These units are used often and I’m sure there’s more that can be done to fix the issue but I keep getting dismissed and they only replace the belt. Now I have a little more of an understanding, to stand my ground.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Belts are made of Kevlar and don’t “stretch out”. I would suspect they are installing belts that don’t fit your machine model (stacked units have shorter belts) or there could be an issue with your idler pulley or motor pulley. The motor/blower assembly could also be loose from the frame. Look inside your door and find the model number and with that search a reputable parts dealer like “Repair Clinic” to get the correct belt part number. Ensure that the service technician is installing the correct belt. If the belts they are replacing aren’t broken or chewed up they are selling you a part you don’t need. Thanks for watching!

    Belt looks shredded... what could cause this. Dryer is from 2019

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first thing I would check is a worn out motor pulley. A seized idler pulley can cause this too. I’ve seen on some GE machines that the original belt is very thin, only about three vee grooves wide. I suppose this is a way for the manufacturers to save money. Kind of like the tires on new cars. They only last about 20,000 miles before they are worn out. But, on these machines that thin belt will wear down until the metal grooves in the motor pulley cut right through the belt and shred it. The replacement belts are wider and thicker. Maybe, if everything else checks out, you are a victim of corporate bottom line. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the tips, I’ve replaced about six or seven belts in the last year. Sometimes only lasting a week. I Totally replaced the pulley and rollers and tensioner idler when the very first belt broke. Wondering if the drum is dragging on the front and back portion of the dryer somehow. Kenmore 500 is the model.

      Check the tub glides on the drum and the felt they run on. Be sure the rollers are free and not jammed by hair behind them. If you are using an aluminum motor pulley try changing to one that is steel. Thanks for watching.

    What's the problem when you've replaced the wheels, the idler pulley and the moter pulley put your belt is still snapping. I've watched a dozen videos to make sure the belt is on correctly. The belt lasts about a week. I've been through three, hence the replacement of everything. I'm honestly confused because the felt isn't damaged either. Please help! Thanks! The belt seemed to be shredded a bit because there's rubber dust everywhere, and then it's snapped in one place.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Something is causing a severe drag on the drum if the belt is slipping on a new motor pulley. I’d make sure the rollers move freely, the motor pulley is new and the belt is correctly installed on the idler pulley and motor pulley. If the clothes you are loading it either aren’t spun out correctly it will cause a weight overload too. Thanks for watching!

      I would suspect that the motor pulley needs to be replaced, That's almost 100% the reason why belts get shredded. It may look okay but if you compare it to a new one you'll be surprised. Thanks for watching!

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry to hear about the issue with your Amana dryer. Based on your description, there are a few things you might want to check to resolve the problem:
      Examine the motor pulley for any signs of damage. If it's worn or cracked, it might need to be replaced.
      Ensure the belt isn't slipping off the idler pulley and jamming, which could cause it to snap.
      Check if the drum rollers move freely and don't jam. If they're not functioning properly, they might need to be replaced or lubricated.
      Lastly, make sure your washing machine is spinning out the clothes effectively before placing them in the dryer. An over-weighted load can cause the belt to slip and burn before the drum starts turning freely.
      I hope these suggestions help you resolve the issue with your dryer belt. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks for watching my channel!

    Hey Chip, question for ya. I have a whirlpool dryer and I've been having to replace belts on it left and right. I've replaced that aluminum head on the pulley on it this last time and this last belt lasted a couple of months and just broke today. Thinkin the wife may have just overloaded it, I replaced that belt and it didn't make it 20 minutes and broke in the load she tried to run. Any tips on what I should I look at next? Thank you in advance.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Make sure your drum moves freely on the felt seal on the front. You may have to replace that. Also the rollers have to spin smoothly. You might need new rollers and axles. I usually replace the aluminum pulley with a steel one when I have customers that break belts too often. I get most of the steel pulleys from scrapped machines. Here is a link for one a.co/d/1jFXFtt I think this is right hand thread, it doesn’t say left anywhere and I disremember the correct part number. Many steel pulleys are left hand threads so be sure when you order to watch out for that. Thanks for watching!

    Hey, Chip, thanks for uploading these.
    I replaced belt, idler pulley, and rollers about a year ago. Well the dryer quit turning. Opened it up and the belt was disintegrated. Replaced belt, checked rollers and pulley. Checked felt gaskets. Now it spins fine and fast empty. But with a load in it will not spin. Seems to be sitting on idler pulley?
    Could it be the new idler pulley "spring" or frame is worn already?
