Those in need are meth head street poopers who raise money for their drugs by roaming the streets at night stealing anything that is not chained down. Those who "made this happen" are nothing more than enablers.

Great. Give hotel rooms free like New York. What happens? More poor souls will show up taxpayers can support at $300 per day for ever. Formula: $300 per day x 365 days per year = $109,500 per year per poor soul, $109,500 x (number of homeless)= cost to taxpayers. Just for the hotel rooms.
One small step for humanity - one giant step forward for miss Mary Jane. Good job, Mayor Johnston. Good luck to miss Mary Jane. And good on Marc Sallinger and 9News for a good bit of reporting.
My own opinion is that they need to seperate the people who are on the street. Housing them all in a single building or area will not work in the long run. Small homes or apartments throughout big cities or a state may be a more positive move.
@@LindaDavis-iq9zj I understand what you are saying but being around people 24/7 who are struggling with the sames vices and demons is not healthy. How did this female end up addicted and homeless? She is in the worst place to be assaulted. It would be interesting to know her life story. I feel so sorry for her.
I can’t solve homelessness, but I think I can design a house that doesn’t cost fifty thousand. Yeah it’s just a box a bit bigger than a jail cell but if it’s in a community pod that has the other amenities you need then it works. It’s not a conventional design, and it’s has to be permanent, but it’s doable. If I can do it, anyone can. The problem with pricing is, everyone thinks they’re priceless.

I don't understand labeling this problem an issue of "homelessness". Being homeless isn't the cause -- it's a symptom of other causes, usually addiction and/or mental health problems. This isn't the 1930's anymore where the economy has collapsed and otherwise able-bodied and socially functional people can't find work and just need a helping hand. If the underlying causes are not treated, putting a roof over somebody's head is a waste, and probably even a form of enablement. I am not condemning this action -- but I hope that there are at least conditions of accountability attached to the offer of housing and follow-ups to determine that these individuals are making use of the opportunity that has been given to them.
