I think you made the right call about the time of set up Lance. You follow your gut instinct on the day. I would have done the same if that weather was bad. In fact, I set my tent up at about 2 or 3 pm on the South Downs to harbour in due to a terrible storm. I think just let common sense prevail on all of this. ATB mate - Ben 👍
I am right with you Lance. Seeing as wildcamping is technically wrong, I dont see the issue when you do it. We do what we can get away with. In the woods I set up just after lunch. Lots of "armchair campers" out there. When it comes to safety, do what you need to do and bugger anyone else. Regards JB. (Allan) 👍
What’s the rules on survival tents? As at that point that’s what it became, in my eyes! And the same people complaining about the path, I’ve see the best of the best within touching distance of a trig point. Banana peel, if you can get done for fly tipping scattering leafs from your land,in a wood. Then just take it home I Guarantee it’s lighter than when you can’t get up there.
If I was up a mountain in those conditions and had my tent I would set up too, what would people expect? That you stand in the wind and rain for four hours until 7pm onwards? LOL Close to a path? Yes it’s probably wrong in the philosophy of wild camping but if you can find a spot to pitch and nobody else is around then crack on! We have ALL pitched near a path at some point, sometimes its a choice you have to make
I set up as and when i want people don't like it tuff they aint me not one to please people nd I've set up hammocks right next to trails like the last part of my five days in Wales and I've set tarps up because its been rain on trail and I've had people hiding underneath with me because they didn't have rain coats so take no notice mate like I tell people plenty of other TH-camr they can watch and their funny part its never sub's that moan, so chin up mate and don't worry about them God bless you atb Ginge

It is only wrong to set the tent up too late!

Setup when you want to mate, especially if it`s to escape the foul weather.
I think you made the right call for the right reason to set up when you did.

Sad about people using social media to vent out their own issues … ignore :-)
