I went to a birthday dinner - and fought over splitting the $4.6K bill

- For these pals, it’s go Dutch or go home.
A group of friends were filmed arguing at a birthday dinner over how to split the hefty bill, which appeared to total more than $4,600.
“We still talk, but [the] friendship isn’t the same,” Victor Christian, who posted the viral TikTok on Sunday, told The Post. “I hope that we can fix it very soon.”
It seems that the heated exchange, which has scored 14.6 million views, was spurred by the birthday girl’s alleged desire for the bill to be shared evenly among the party rather than pay as you go.

Thats when I find the waiter, pay for my meal and leave in the middle of the argument
That's the correct response.
Ignore the drama, walk up to the counter, state what you purchased, pay your dues and add a tip.
Then return to the table to tell them you've paid your debts and then watch the drama knowing you are already exempt from any remaining responsibilities in the discussion.
@@GwladYrHaf thats when they get even more mad and I just look at em like: 🥴Well🤷🏾♂️
fr
Same lol😂
Never split the bill. Only pay for what you ordered, period.
This is the only right answer.
🤣😂
That’s a weak mentality
Splitting the bill will only benefit whomever made the most expensive order and it will work against whoever made the cheapest order.
socialism.
@@sarscov9854how about pay for what you order and don't expect orher to pay for your food.. Infact in our country we pay for food if we are inviting people also we have abudget beforehand, else we don't waste other people's time..
@@WTFuzz-j4h that's what I'm saying.
@@sarscov9854 oh sorry i misunderstood you..
people that scream splitt the bill dont have any money and hope that someone will pay and forget
The only people who want to split the bill, are the broke greedy folks who go in and order a $60 meal and another $20 in appetizers, and another $120 in drinks. Literally if you push to split the bill, it’s because you’re greedy, broke, and entitled. It’s such greedy and entitled mindset. “I’m gonna gorge myself on this food I can’t afford, and y’all can foot the difference”
Here’s my opinion. Bill splitting should be decided by everyone, upfront. If someone isn’t comfortable, they can say “I’ll get a separate check”. No questions or judgments passed. For the birthday person, it’s nice to pay for their bill but again shouldn’t be an obligation unless stated prior. Everyone at the table could “buy them a drink” and put down the amount for one of their drinks plus some extra to cover a meal, no need to split the entire bill.
Edit* if you’re going to split, a maximum price should be set, and drinks on a limit. Because there’s too many people who would easily wrack up nearly $100 just in drinks at fancy restaurants, let alone choosing the most expensive dishes.
$4.6K bill?.... Did LIzzo attend the dinner party?
the fake one did
Next time go to Popeye's.
😂😂
Love that chicken at Popeye's...cuz it's all I can afford.😕
If they weren't fighting over the bill they would be fighting over something else anyway...
Nope. Not splitting the bill if i ordered an appetizer and a drink and you had 3 drinks and 20 oz filet mignon. Not gonna happen and you're not my friend if you expect me to
If you invite people to a restaurant for your birthday dinner : YOU PAY!
Ye
Exactly! I organized my own birthday party and I did it at home, and I paid for everything. I didn't care because all I wanted was to spend my day with my loved ones!
A decision should be made before anyone picks up a menu.. especially in a high end restaurant…
Don’t ever buy any expensive food or luxury alcohol for anyone that lives in Atlanta. Pay for what you eat.
The other people in the restaurant just want a quiet meal, with their children, that's getting harder to do everyday.
Ye well that's black people for ye🤣🤣🤣
For normal people, that's embarrassing
This is why I dont do group dinners with broke people
But to be fair, a LOT of people don't know their Friends are broke until it's time to pay the bill. A LOT of people flex with flashy stuff to impress their friends but are REALLY living paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford a meal at a high end Restaurant. They indulge themselves on luxurious food and drinks at the high end Restaurant and then expect their Friends that they flexed to to pay the bulk for what they could have afforded all the way if they weren't flexing to their Friends. For example, a Woman can buy a $1,000 purse from Louis Vuitton and go to Ruth Chris Steakhouse and order a $60 filet mignon, a $60 lobster tail, a $10 plate of french fries , $30 glass of wine, a $30 oyster appetizer and a $15 dessert. Bill is $205, with tax and tip, its roughly $250. Flexing woman ordered all thT in order to flex on her Friends because she's expecting to split the bill. She's hoping she'll pay only about $30 when other Friends will pay the bulk of her meal. 💡
Do not go to a restaurant that charges that much. Hard to tell how many was in the group from this clip. Maybe 10-15. No way a group that size should be paying pay more than $1000-1500 for a dinner and drinks.
$4,000 at a restaurant is asinine. Maybe that much for a group of 40.
Thats what the dude is arguing lol he wants to only pay for himself because they were ordering up
That’s because these girls go to restaurants and just order whateve they want so you end up covering for them. If the total was like 1,500 for 10 ppl u don’t thing they will mind splitting but if when its 4,600 nahh. I am paying $460 dollars but I only got $60 worth of food tf
I have a feeling they were ordering expensive wine and champs and plates and plates of appetizers.
They knew they ain’t have it
I wouldn’t even feel comfortable splitting the bill knowing I ordered way more than everybody else
In 2023 I let the woman pay there portion. It’s only right to keep it equal
No, they should pay for everything in the name of past harms of tradition.
It’s not about equal, it’s about common decency. I don’t care if the whole table was men you pay for what you ordered unless splitting was already agreed upon.
So what happened in the end?
If the 💵 was 😂 almost 5k i get the gloves 🧤 ready to be scrubbing dishes in the back LoL 😆
Theres about a 14% cross section of America that should be required to pay a 75% deposit on their credit card before the first appetizer is served no matter how well they are dressed. Let's just call it a security deposit from the "Summer of Love"
really, who exactly is this 14% of America made up of? this is important to know since you said that it shouldn't matter how well they are dressed.
@@terrymurray1959 The same group committing most of the crime.
I thought it was 13%
I wouldn't split that either.
If I didn't order expensive items on the menu, I'm not paying for someone else floss.
Ive been in this situation before, a 3,000 bill. Now i paid my 300 for my meanl and drink not drinks.
I didn't have appetizers, which they had already on the table when I got there.
Also, the birthday girl brother kept ordering bottles.
Well at the end of the night the bill was over 3,000 .
The host paid the entire bill and everyone cash app their portion.
If ya can’t afford it eat a less expensive place. Why’s this even a QUESTION??
I agree with Hummingbird " Pay for yourself then, split the b day girls bill."
I only celebrate my bday when I can afford to cover the whole check for me and my guests. I don't feel entitled to anything just because it's my birthday. I'm just grateful my loved-ones showed up.
The problem with these expensive split-bill dinners and destination weddings is that financially unstable/irresponsible people take advantage of these situations to have experiences they could never afford on their own.
I take cash whenever I go to eat out with other people. That way I lay down what I paid for and that includes a tip.
Why can’t they all be adult and just say “let’s all just pay for what WE ordered ourselves”.
I hate going with a large group of girls they always get carried away with big plate’s dessert and drink. And I don’t drink alcohol or order dessert . My small meal ends up costing me double not fair. And restaurants don’t like dividing checks per customer
Poor social skills aside, this is arguably the biggest reason I eat by myself.
I'm shocked they didn't trash the racist restaurant
😂
Classy people. Bet the whole staff was thrilled when they walked in
Shocking .........not really
😢Honey, it appears she either never really was a friend OR she has changed drastically..either way Toxic is Toxic....Yes it hurts now BUT in time you'll realize you really didn't lose much.
Over 4k for a meal , what were they eating ? Gold and diamonds .
When I go out in big groups like this I tell everyone off the back I’m paying for my own food.
That way no body assumes I’m chipping in for food I didn’t eat or drinks I didn’t drink.
the moment the waiter takes my order I say“ I want a separate check at the end of the meal” please & Thank you.
Yeah, I moved to Portland, OR and went out with new friends. I was a recently divorced single mom and broke so I only ordered a water and small appetizer. They ordered alcoholic drinks and several appetizers. When the bill arrived, I had to fork over $25. I was a bit shocked but paid it and learned the hard way that is the culture in some places. Now I always make sure I'm on a separate tab when I order.
No tip was left
Even if they could afford it, there would be no tip.
Everyone ordered the most expensive thing when they believed they wouldn't pay for it in full😂
Idk why people think ending their sentence with “period” is some kind of cheatcode
This is the reason i don’t attend birthday party groups anymore there is always the typical crowd that order expensive food and drinks when the server shows up with the bill they act like it’s non of their business. broke ones
This needs to be hashed out before ordering.
The only solution is SEPARATE CHECKS then
split the b day persons.
Then see how people order knowing they be paying their own way
Happy birthday.
When a bill comes up to 4. 3 k bill for food tells you something wrong with this world
Great. Means they won't be out ruining people's night again.
That's why these women are single
Every one should ask for separate CHECKS
That’s wat I say the moment I tell the waiter my order 😂they got me f up lol
They should have made things clear beforehand. At this point I would have pulled out my card and covered the $4600 bill and said goodbye. I’m not rich but this is just classless.
the nerve of these people. they have no shame
I bet that bill would’ve been half to a third of that price if people were told beforehand that they had to pay for their own meal. Attendance would been smaller too ..
what kind of adult goes out to eat when they're completely broke? Even if there is a chance that someone pays for your meal, it looks pretty pathetic if someone actually doesn't.
Pay for what you ordered simple.
I can’t stand that.
Often people burn others simply because they won’t pay.
I find out who’s paying what, before we eat, these days.
They Resturant should have a policy when a big party shows up that they ask before taking any orders how the Bill is going to be handled. By that I mean. Should they have a single Bill, split, separate bills. At least way. People can choose to leave before any drama starts.
A male Poster said he went to a birthday group dinner with his female friends. He paid for only HIS portion and walked away and all of his female friends were giving him death stares for not chipping in for their meals but be said he laughed and didn't care! 🤣🤭
As long as no one ran out without paying the bill, and i wasn't there with a date tryin to create a little civilized, romantic, ambience,
I don't have a problem with the Bickertons actin up like damnFools and embarrassing themselves.. if that's even possible anymore ✌🏾
These people cause chaos everywhere they go. Talk about no class, this is just embarrassing.
Perfect example of socialism and why it inevitably fails. 👍
If you invite people to your birthday dinner YOU pay. Obviously you couldn’t afford it. Living a champagne life with a beer budget. If you wanted “help” you should have explained this in your invite.
Not necessarily I don’t know where you get that idea from. They can pay on their own. The problem is when ppl get $500 or $700 worth of food and everyone is getting $100, $50 and you want to split equally. Now we’re splitting $1,350 in four. Not far to those other ppl. I just got $50 worth of food and paying $450 for it
Group dinners are for young people. Grown folks don't play that mess.
Is this what young and entitled people do with their time? Who in their right mind would pay for someone running up an unlimited bill without that being discussed ahead of time. The worst part is the boyfriend of the girl(or the one sitting next to her) is acting like a female and arguing that grown men should pay for her running up the bill. Incredible.
I would not be willing to pay for someone else’s stuff especially if it was more than what I had.
If he lost a friend over it, then she was never a true friend
I don’t drink so I would not expect to pay the drink tabs for anyone…I believe in separate bills…if I have pasta and another has steak or lobster..why would anyone expect me to help pay for their dinners…nope…
You know as a person who proudly represents gen X generation... I notice most adults these days have the vocabulary and behave like children....no I mean literal children.....meanwhile the children act like their adults living in their parent's home...its an oddity for sure.....I would buy my food and exit.....
_thy enrichment runneth over_
Proper decorum when you invite, you pay the bill only to invited with allowable allowance at most 3 person other than the invited. Beyond that, as a guy, especially without notice, im only responsible to the stated above
I'm guessing there were 9 people at this dinner.... so around $575/person then you have tip which is $830 @18% of $4600 .... this is a bit much where did you poor folks go to eat??
$830/8 which is an additional $105/person total damage $680/person I'm not including the BirFday girl... next time pick a Taco Bell or McDonalds to have a party at.... idk
Michael - it is not the job of the customer to ensure the employee can make ends meet. That responsibility is that of the employer. For decades - Americans have gotten angry at each other over tips - while employers have laughed all the way to the bank. Stop tipping.
@@MARKHENSTROM I agree, I was just doing the math...
The guy ordered just $24.85 worth of food and had no idea about the splitting idea.
They are all strong independent women who do not need a man until the check shows up!
The Usual Suspects
The usual suspects say this. White racists. Ironic. 😎✊🏼🇺🇸
Bro don’t even pull up if you no you ain’t trynna pay that bill bro lml
I don't think there's anything wrong with expecting people to do it either way, just know before you get there and order as to how the bill is going to be handled. I respect healthy boundaries and respect people's financial standings.
Wooooow.
Ah the debates in this world :) I try to live like every day is my bday bc I was born in the USA, seemed the way to choose to live, & life is so short 🥂🍾
💨 🎯
Who spends $4,000 on dinner loooooollll
If you're poor, just say it. Many people are poor.
@@jmwilson6792no need to spend that much tbh even if you’re not poor especially at a restaurant that’s not that expensive. That just means you’re unnecessarily ordering
It was a group dinner. I myself paid about $100 just for me and I ordered a two happy hour Calamari appetizers(roughly $15), a steak dinner (roughly $40) a happy hour chicken tenders meal(roughly $8), a Coke(roughly $4) and a Brookie and ice cream dessert(Roughly $10) With tax, service charges, and tip, it was roughly $100. We NEVER see exactly how many people were in this group. They could have been like 23 people in this group and each ordered like $200 with appetizers, alcoholic drinks, two main entress(A dine and dasher ordered two expensive different entress just for himself and then dine and dashed) two desserts. I could easily see how the bill came up to $4,600. 💡🤔
@jmwilson6792 what do u do for a living, the banks start printing money and you think you're rich?
Fact check. It’s always them not tipping and bouncing on bills lol
Cliche poor people who never experienced luxury and decide to go overboard lol
Pay for the things you ordered .
Just pay for your own meals. It's that simple.
Why does it always have to be Atlanta? Seriously y’all? Clue into that B that started it with the oysters.
Trying not to sound racist but why always the same type of people have this problem
Ive NEVER let myself get into that situation.
You know who your friends that day.
Does splitting the bill mean split evenly among everyone so like 4.6k/8 or just do they pay for what you eat
It means pornhub
Only pay for what you get, not fair for you pay 60 when all you had was a water
How do you rack up a 4600 dinner bill? What are you eating??
Get me some extra cheese on my whopper!!!
Easy. 23 people rack up roughly $200 a person. At a high end Restaurant this is extremely possible. 💡😜
@@karicewillisyea, that’s to be split up and addressed so way beforehand. Everyone pays for their own meal ..
@@universal3024 Yep, you have excellent points. 😇 I myself racked up about $100 at a Restaurant. I had two calamari appetizers, a chicken tenders and fries meal, a steak and fries meal, a brookie and ice cream and with tax and tip, I paid about $100. 💡 These people were probably each ordering something like," Beef Wellington, ribeye steak and fries, glass of Chardonnay glass of Pinot noir, baked Alaska, melted asiago, melted mozzarella, melted gruyere, melted brie four cheese dip with focaccia, lobster tail with melted garlic butter, Caesar salad with parsnips and thousand Island dressing for it to be about $200 a person.
Edit. I did some calculations and my scenario would actually rack up more like $400 and not about $200. 💡🤔
I would think about who I am going to dinner with before I would actually go
Just pay for what you order
Idk bout yall but in germany we always pay for ourselves
Pay for my meal and dip. Later broke a$$es!
Friends forever
He thought he was one of the girls 🌈
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT....
The answer is pay for your own food. Wish her a happy birthday and leave
I swear i seen the lady in the red jacket in 2 other videos just like this
Acting up for views.
I'm not spending the bill that stuff is talked about before we even get the food even if you are having a birthday that day or not
It depends on how much. I’ve been out with friends in college and we split the bill but it always came out close to how much we spend. Sometimes I end up paying $40 when I order $50 worth of food. Other spending $50 when I ordered $40 worth of food. It’s that balance that makes it okay. When I have to pay $400 and only had $50 worth of food then i am leaving
Cant we all just get along
When some of us gain some common sense yes
Pay for your own stuff what split ?
Could have just gone to chillies!
Yep, I got a FULL course meal at Chili's for about $58. Mozzarella cheese sticks appetizer (roughly $10)tropical sunrise margarita(roughly $10) a ribeye steak with corn and fries, roughly $25. With tax and tip, I paid about $58. 😀
IS THIS A "FRIENDS" EPISODE REMAKE?
They just wanted a free meal. Even the foo with the white shirt. If that was his man why didn't he pay for everything. I guess they didn't accept BET
