I own my mental health. Seriously, Mama Mai’s (and Iamzoie) IG page has helped me with my depression. I’m diagnosed with bipolar disorder II and, at times, my depression gets really bad. Sometimes, I don’t even have enough energy to shower, eat or get out the bed. One time I managed to open my eyes and pick up my phone, and a video of Mama Mai was on my timeline. I spent fifteen minutes laughing at her videos and captions. That positive energy was enough to at least help me get up and take a bath! LOL!! Thank you for that, Mama Mai.

Seriously, Mamma Mai reminds me sooooo much of my mom. My mom's a Pakistani immigrant and i'm first-generation and my mom says the exact same things! My mom's golden line is in Urdu and it basically translates to, "Beauty fades; dumb is forever. So obviously, don't be dumb." And when she tells me she's proud of me, i'm always surprised and she goes, "yeah i don't tell you i'm proud of you 24/7 bc then you're gonna get all high and mighty. "Just one car accident it's over". I LOL'd so hard. My mom was my first bully. I was convinced for years I was ugly. Turns out I am known as the pretty friend by literally everyone else. Compliments make me uncomfortable because I feel like people are comparing themselves to me. It has been difficult to grasp how others view me. But because I thought I was ugly I would focus on my studies. I am now a biotech major that just happens to turn heads. So I guess I got to thank my mom for that.
