I lived in South Carolina as a kid, and what was often said was South Carolina (Which unsurprisingly started the Civil War) had the highest percentage of slaves, and it wasn't till the great migration till South Carolinas white population overtook the Black population the vast majority were descendant or slaves themselves.

This is very late, but as a history buff myself (decently well versed in American and European history) I can confirm that the religious map is pretty correct. The US was seen as almost a safe haven for protestants, especially those trying to escape Catholic and Anglican England. And the US is still majorly protestant to this day, despite what some believe.
I just discovered this channel and now I realize that I've always needed a Map related TH-cam channel in my life.
