I was going through some of my dads LPs and listened to the disco version (Magic Bird of fire) I was blown away. Then I thought look this song up on youtube and DAM now I'm really blown away. My generation (all electronic can't come close to this! Totally off the hook. My dad said his generation paved the way. Dad you were right. He doesn't know about this so tonight I will sit him down and blow him away back 2 the 70's! WOW! Thank God for youtube!

This is GREAT! I remember when this came out around 77/78 on the Salsoul label and I still have the 12 inch. Will always keep my vinyl! The nuances of humans playing real instruments sets it off from electronic gadgets. This is the result of practicing your music lessons - as you hear and see, it is not easy to sit for hours to get it down pat.

The first time I heard the 12" of the original Salsoul Orchestra 'Magic Bird of Fire' was in a small club 'way back then. I almost didn't survive! Totally knocked-out! Stravinsky was/is my favorite of all composers, and your arrangement of his Firebird is absolutely phenomenal. It has a special place in my heart, and is connected with some hot, hot memories.

Vincent Montana! One of my heroes. And one of the best Salsoul compositions. Thrilled to see this behind the scenes coverage. Thank you so much for sharing this!!

I don't care if a song I like is created via a laptop or a single acoustic guitar and a voice - it's the result that counts. That said, goddamn - real musicians never cease to amaze me.

I was in junior high music theory class at Overbrook Regional in Lindenwold NJ in around 1975/76 timeframe. My music theory teacher was Pasquale Spino who wrote Journey to Phoebus on the same album. He brought in hand written manuscripts and played portions, keeping us up on the project. I thought he had a piece of this tune as well if I recall. It was so cool to hear the finished product. I still play some piano and would love to see the keybd transcription for the piano riff in this song.

Wow. Amazing to watch Vince coaching these younger musicians into getting this right :-) Awesome stuff :-) "Don't blame me, Stravinsky wrote it" (I'm paraphrasing lol)...lolol...I'm surprised he didn't play back his original Salsoul Orchestra track for them to hear, but maybe he wanted the slight variation. Regardless, they ended up doing a beautiful job :-)
