Shadow [TK] I agree this video was very satisfying even for me who isn't new to Tekken and my highest rank is savior I still mess up a lot with things you pointed out
OR people should just about get off their asses and learn by researching it, thats part of the learning experience and learning curve, because I highly doubt those people who never bothered to look up something like "how to punish in tekken" or "how to backdash cancel in tekken", would actually watch a tutorial mode video in the game, and then actually take the time going through it over and over again and practicing for hours on his own lol, i HIGHLY doubt it, they'll just go back to button mashing like an ape then give up after 2 weeks
I've got a couple hundred hours in the game and a couple thousand matches, and I never considered ducking the second kick in K-Bob's H/L kick string until I saw this video. Also didn't think about hopkicking Dragunov instead of just blocking. Sometimes you do need someone to show you.
I see where you're coming from, but it does often help when things like this are put into the game. One example I would give is Skullgirls. Sure that game doesn't have anything mechanically new for a fighting game, but it had an extremely in depth tutorial. from just a general how to play fighting games, to game specific mechanics, and character specific mechanics like stance canceling on Squigly . I guess what I'm trying to say is it wouldn't help everybody, but it's helpful for the people who would use something like that.
Like, just why didn't they put anything like that in any game? That's a single best video on Tekken I watched ever, no shit, no salt, no downtalk. No this thing "Oh, if you're standing you're blocking mids, if you crouch you'll block lows", like, yeah, we know that shit, that's what game is designed to teach us from the beginning, that's the kind of thing you're picking up in first PvAI battle. Brilliant work, man, thank you
lol one of the biggest quote from this video is "NOT EVERY MOVE NEEDS TO BE REACTED TO" for some reason, beginners seem to never understand that concept, whenever i randomly have some 1st dan come into my room, instead of kicking him out, i just pick dragunov and do b421 over and over and over again until the round is over in like 20 seconds lol and they will never ever just block or learn that the last hit is high lmao...
One of the best Tekken tutor out there. Shame that game NOT giving you ANY of such tips through command lists, like for example, which are weak point of your current char, so you would know, which attack can get you severely punished.
In my opinion the hardest part about Tekken isn't knowing how to block but knowing how to open someone up after successfully blocking. This explains the system for doing that perfectly without going into the nitty gritty of frame data, which you can't know when you're a new player.
Thank you so much STK, this guide was very helpful. Been plateauing lately and this has really given me some perspective again. Back to the fundamentals.
Awesome video! I learned a lot, and as I obsessively rewatch it I'm sure I'll actually pick up the depth a little. Coming from SFV and GG to tekken has been the best
You sir are a man of the people, a great teacher, and a very logical individual. You're hands down the best fighting game tutorial TH-camr, and I have the highest respect for your work in trying to make fighting games a lot simpiler to understand for everyone. Thank you, and keep up the good work!! :)
Thanks a lot! I've strayed away from the tutorial videos as time went on (T7 is a year old now) but I'm glad I was able to help the newcomers when this game first released. I plan on doing the same for Soul Calibur 6 but on a lesser scale, I am not as knowledgeable in that game as I am in Tekken.
That sounds great. I can't wait for your Soul Caliber content. I would love to connect with you more personally via PSN if you would oblige? I'm a DOA veteran, so I would be happy to exchange intermediate game knowledge if you would be interested :)
@@shanethewise nah, just like Dark Souls, out playing your opponent brings a sense of accomplishment and your brain goes into a state of flow, tbh it's one of the best feelings ever
The best defense is to never let yourself enter a defensive mode. I play with my friends, I got to admit I press more buttons than them if I get pressured in close quarters, but I play Feng and I always keep a sweeping distance enough to catch a whiff into a full combo. Thankfully, Feng has F3,4. It devours whiffs.
This was really helpful. I am losing matching against a Paul main with my Jin. This really opened my eyes and now have to act accordingly as you have shown in the video. Thank you
lilskills721 Nina when used properly is a fucking hurricane full of pressure she has one of the best pressure tools in the game especially when put up against the wall...I still have no clue how to get out of her pressure or what her openings are lol
One other option is to do an air attack against low attacks. Low attacks can miss if you are not on the floor which could give you a chance to counter them with something that you can use in the air. As always there is no one size fits all and this isn’t the best option for every character or against every low attack, but an option nonetheless to consider.
Can I like twice? Really good tutorial, helped a lot :D I really thought I was unwillingly mashing, because I freak out VERY easily in fighting games (much more than IRL, to be honest), but now I have a good comparison and I improved significantly after trying this out (I didn't even know how to configure the training buddy properly, by the way) Anyway, great tutorial. Covered everything, explained well and didn't drag on at all! Have a nice day! :3
Sidestepping is very useful for me as i am a Xiaoyu main, i oftenly sidestep to create a combo by using a bayonet thruster or an airborne kick to juggle my enemy.
Does this tutorial work for every tekken game? I just started playing TTT2 (first time i've played tekken) using kunimitsu, i have a very bad time defending spam attacks mainly from eddy and cristie I'm a mono kunimitsu because she looks cool and i can do some simple combo as throw the enemy on air and catch him mid air with the "setsunagake" + B (i hope thats how its called i just call it "dash")
great video, i know most of the ones you covered but forgot about that nina string, lol you can't ever know too much in tekken, hey is that Nina string where you talked about Side stepping to punish, is that only side step-able counter clockwise? or can you side step clockwise for the last hit too? i always forget thats side step-able
Too bad none of this works on Eddy. "Blocked my safe move? Lemme just spam that O button, flail around my thumbstick, and hit you with these attacks that hit you whether you are ducking or not."
great video man, what i dont get is why so many people dont get to this conclusion themselves, i mean how else are you supposed to PRACTICE in the game, i understand that you wont always come to the right punish but thats where internet comes today, you can literally search for anything about anything today, yet people are lazy(or actually that stupid) even to google
These are the kind of guides that we beginners need. Content makers tend to overlook stuff that are as basic as this, thanks!
Great job! They should put this video in the game. It should auto-play when you first hit practice mode 👍
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll try to put out more videos like this

Very detailed. This is the one I'm looking for! "Don't let them make a fool out of you"

The yoshimitsu costume though...

that background music really gives off that 2010 youtube video vibes
I play tekken since Tekken 3, but it's always useful to watch so practical and useful guides like this one. THANK YOU!!
I second this comment 👌
A short, simple, and thorough guide, thanks dude!

Tea of the GODS greatest of all time
I like this channel. You make things really easy to understand but keep the teachings effective enough to use

How's it coming along I'm like 10 to 30 hours in as a diamond Karin... Chose josie maybe Julia later

Haven't seen such a great guide before.
This is the one the best improving defense tutorials on youtube. 😃👍
This video was awesome and very informative. Keep up the good work man!
have a nice day !

Great video and great choice of track :)
Very neat video. Rarely well made
here is a like for the effort. great job man
Taking it one step at a time. Very true and practical.

I think that's not too much of a problem. Defense is really good but it's important ro know when to counter attack.
...cool vid man. Gonna put these tips to use...
I don't have this game but I'm still giving you a thumbs up
Glad I found this channel
So far this is really helpful, thanks!
I genuinely had no idea you could block in this game, I swear I've never seen a top player actually do it
This was really helpful. I am losing matching against a Paul main with my Jin. This really opened my eyes and now have to act accordingly as you have shown in the video. Thank you
very useful brother great job keep up the good work
Definitely a useful video! That Nina attack you displayed is the exact move I keep having trouble with!
lilskills721 Nina when used properly is a fucking hurricane full of pressure she has one of the best pressure tools in the game especially when put up against the wall...I still have no clue how to get out of her pressure or what her openings are lol
Awesome info man. Just what I was thinking about. Great job.👍✌️
I would take it seriously if it wasn't for that Yoshimitsu costume.
fantastic video
You're awesome , Thanks! Get ready for the next battle!
beutifully done
We need an updated one of this

Thanks this will help me out a lot :)
Best way ? Go to practice mode and for every character test yourself against their top moves , and how to defend them
Good info for the tekken 7 players
Wow I am just now seeing this and it helps a whole lot. Thank you so much!

Thanks for tha help, this is very important to learn.
very good! though I think you should have shown more full combo punishes to really emphasize how much you can get off of them.
Thank you this really helped me
This should be in the game as initial tutorial. Imense help.
there should be in game replays with an input reader...it's just much easier
subscribed thanks man great content

+Bludika That string is only step-able in a certain direction. You could probably counter it too but I forgot to test that out, may or may not work
Thanks 4 this vid, I' m sooo noob at Tekken, but I wanna increased my low level...thumb up!

i dont get how im supposed to know when i should and shouldnt 10f punish without knowing the specific move
Thx for the tips o/
