If one day. all your classes are taught in a foreign language that you barely understand, imagine the effect that will have on your grades. The straight L in glass represent a straight glass of water and the R in grass represent the curly grass in the wind. They are trying to learn the words visually instead of by pronunciation and obviously this is not the right way. Even today, I have huge difficulty pronouncing and spelling English words right because of the shaky foundation I inherit as a child although I can write decently. If someone come up with a new system that make English more accessible to Chinese speakers, I am all for it.
I think he is great and much better than most of the you and me. He has the talent and courage, and the enthusiasm to teach others. He does not need to be expert to promote this ancient language, do not criticize too harshly.

First, having a consistent saturation in the second language (English here) and secondly, to have a vocal map that shows how to shape your mouth for the sounds...Thirdly, have a 'vocal parent' someone who will gently correct and teach you and not judge you by your mistakes. I personally as an English teacher in China, have a host of problems when the pidgeonization of English is used. You get Chinglish rather than English. It creates a lot of bad language habits like aspirations at the end of words that end with consonants and a reliance on using sound patterns that are foreign to the language you're learning. As someone who's learning Mandarin himself, I can't use common English sounds to vocalize the X or ZH sounds in pinyin. I have to copy the common Mandarin vocal techniques to make the sound. Now, I do use some Mandarin to help pronunciation when it's applicable (like using 爱 to help to pronounce the 'i' sound in words like bike) or telling students to end consonant ending words in the fourth tone so they don't aspirate the words and say 'words-uh' instead of 'words' but I'm not convinced that these techniques should be relied upon rather than just being garnishing tools to help in difficult areas.

To be honest I’m not impressed, this is too rigorous. One would wasting too much time on each word, and it would take one too long to get through a paragraph before one gets discouraged. Plus, using this would only interrupt a better way of learning pronunciation, (i.e. learning by ears). You should only attempt this when something is hard to remember, because it is similar to mnemonic.

I thought that the 'ciao' was needing skipping too.
This example in particular could've been substituted by a pinyin syllable "chao" (炒/超...) and would've been more precise.
