In this video I try and recreate two of the more prominent basslines from "Orphans" by Aphex Twin, well to be more accurate the track "Sci-Fi Staircase"

You've actually got the melody wrong witch i understand because it's confusing as all hell. The sequence for the first part is. 9 steps and goes: C3 C2 C2 G1 F3 G2 (rest) G2 (rest). Still a great video 👍

So I figured out the first 303 line and your one isn't very close unfortunately (no offence, just trying to contribute a more accurate version). There are 9 steps, not 8. On my TD-3 I put my Tune knob at full and used the following notes:
D#
F# - Down - Accent
G# - Up
A# - Slide
C# - Up
A# - Slide
G# - Slide
F# - Up - Accent
D#
I haven't figured out the second 303 line but yours sounds pretty good.

Traxler Music yeah definitely let me know. I don’t know what the TB-03 is like to program so it might end up slightly different on yours? Once you set it up, try to sync the tempo along to the track and play them alongside each other. It’s an odd time signature so it sounds weird on its own but will make sense in the context of the track.
yes agree its 9/8 TS. Naughty Richard!! :D There was a bit with an 8-step groove. - I think there are like 3 different step-length grooves in that track
I tryed this way on my TD-3 and sounds quite acurated

When it comes to adding swing, I saw that you turned it up to around a value of 20 for a moment. Since I'm just getting into music production, my only reference for the amount of swing is a percentage. For a lot of house music, I've noticed that 55% - 63% is a pretty common range. Is the 20 value on the TB-03 a percentage? And if so, what's the max percentage you can turn it up to? Does it go up to around that 55% - 63% range? I'm thinking of getting a physical TB-03 and want to know if I'll be able to sync it with my track. Because I added swing to the bass and not my acid line and it didn't groove together. I had to add 57% swing to the acid line to get them to groove. It made me think, hmm I wonder if you can add swing to a 303?
Hi Jordan. When I set my Roland SH01 to the same midi channel as the TB03 (channel 4 for example) the shuffle/swing I set on the 03 is recreated on the 01 sequencer (so this confirms shuffle setting is transmitted via midi). You would have to check that the device you are using to sync the TB03 (or you master / clock device) is set/able to transmit shuffle (it should as this is a standard with MIDI). Also the TB03 manual just states that you can set the shuffle between -50 > +50 which is not very helpful. Maybe a google search might find the answers!
If you can do aphex twin reunion 2 Id be a very happy man. Think it would follow a daw pattern, layered maybe?

What drum machine was used for that sequence beat at 7:48? And how can I achieve that sound w my 09 or 08?
It's a sample loop, impossible to make with a 808 or 909
it doesnt sound right man, first the beat you made sounds nothing like the song, plus the acid bass pattern is way off. doesnt sound good man.
At least this video tutorial will give you a head start trying to work it out for yourself 😊
