    I watched Dark because Netflix recommended it to me, but I think in the future, I become the person who works on the recommendation algorithms at Netflix, thereby recommending the show to my younger self and creating a causal time loop where my intent and desire to watch Dark only happens in the past because I determined the events in the future. Thanks, future self! Really pumped to work at Netflix.

    I think the main reason why more people haven't watched the show is very simple...it's German. Now, for those of us who love foreign films, etc., it's no obstacle, but I think a lot of people are put off by anything that is either subtitled or dubbed. They're missing out is all.

      Its unforunate that people have to listen to it in english or read the subtitles. The biggest advantage of a German show is that the show is centered in German culture etc. language is actually an important part of it, since characters end up using words in a way that are hard to translate in their full context :/

    Dark is seriously the best show ever created. Never have I watched a show and been blown away again and again and again; every episode there's a new twist; a new revelation. Going into season 2 I thought there is no way they can maintain the level of epicness that was season 1...but they did. In fact not only did they maintain it but we're now asking more questions and different questions even though we know so much more about the characters. It's a masterpiece and I seriously hope it gets the recognition it deserves.

    Season 1 and 2 = Time travel
    Season 3 = Parallel Worlds
    Best show Ever

    • @Susim89
      @Susim89 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I Think its much much deeper than parallel worlds. The First time i Think the same "wtf another Dimension or parallel worlds?" But than i think The second time and it has nothing to do with a parallel world anymore.
      Why? Here is my answer:
      old Claudia says to jonas that she has seen the world he doesnt exist. And this fact changend nothing! In Claudia's time line, it must already have happened. Maybe Jonas or someone else find a way in the Future that jonas doesnt exist anymore. But the "Time" or Claudia find a way or Person to bring him back (because nothing has changed). And this is martha! And This is also the fact WHY it doesnt changed anything!I Think it is an important part of the neverending circle to put all pieces together. :) They think that they act freely or have a free will. but they dont have!
      Sry for the english 😅 i hope u understand what i try to say. Mindblowing!

    • @Susim89
      @Susim89 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @UCSID9b1D888e6VazadZ7ESg I think it will happen. that the birth of jonas is prevented. it is in claudias timeline and martha at the end comes from this. this is only a specific time. when? ... Season 3 will tell us! just the same between adam and jonas.
      The biggger question is: why does it all happen? Maybe it has to happen because one thing does not exist without the other. comparable to the big bang. The end is the beginning! For example, suppose Hannah 1954 could be ulrich's grandmother. farfetched, but it is obvious. she had proven to be nielsen and egon said the surname was rare. hannah is the grandmother of ullrich. ullrich the father of mikkel and mikkel the father of jonas. if hannah did not travel back. The family Nielsen and her son would not exist. I also think mads nielsen may not be dead - maybe he is Noah? mads is the brother of ullrich and possibly the father of charlotte. without hannah, the doppler family would not exist. Now you just need a connection to the tiedemanns 🤔 without the time travel and events, the families would wipe themselves out. and that is the paradox. they exist to exist at all. 😃👌🏽
      I'm looking forward to the explanations in season 3

    • @ZarkoStojkoskiOfficialMusic
      @ZarkoStojkoskiOfficialMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Susim89 good prediction, but Mads die in form of just kid. My real questions is how Alexander is connected to this, and why his story is not shown yet, when he kill real alexander. And aslo we see who is Noah. When he is young he convinced by his older version to go through time and save himself to that bunker and meet Elisabeth... who birth Charlotte from noah... just thinking haha. To good story

    • @Susim89
      @Susim89 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZarkoStojkoskiOfficialMusic we don't know that the Kid they found in the woods 2019 is mads. The dead Child is maybe the real aleksander köhler?
      Noah is a member of the nielsen family, because agnes said it to him in the church. Maybe HE is mads or another nielsen. But Noah was a young timetraveller and travelled in the early twenties. Mads disappered 1986. Maybe he travels 66 years back to 1920. Noah works 1921in the caves and the man said to him he is a newbie from another time.
      I think there is more behind the fake aleksander and I want to know more. I think he was brought there so he placed the atomic waste (higgs boson) exactly there, so that the apocalypse can Happen. 🤔

    @000jimbojones000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +83

    I think they already gave dozens of tiny hints in s1 that we saw multiple worlds already... Tannhaus the watchmaker. Remember that we see him in a science show on TV in a bunker scene with the kids. I guess thats because in another dimension he is a scientist not a watchmaker. Also old tiedemann cop asks Jonas on a "sunday" why he isnt in school. The date on the school id of Mads as his body fells out of the time rip is issued after his disappearance (which is impossible). Photos change. On some Fotos people smile. but on the same in another scene they look depressed. + a few more things.

      Easily, easily much better than in the last few seasons of game of thrones. Early thrones however, when GRRM still wrote for the show, when they followed the books, was exceedingly good. At that point it's not so easy to say that Dark is so much better, though I'd say even against early thrones Dark is perhaps slightly better, but definitely it becomes so that as the seasons progress for GOT Dark greatly exceeds it.

    My current theory is the following: The new world where Martha is coming from is a parallel world that was created by Jonas's choice to either save his father or not save his father. Adam is the Jonas that did save his father, while the parallel world is the one where he didn't save his father. The older Regina character said that she has seen a world where Jonas did save his father and it is even worse than the one they are in right now, thereby indicating that she is from the parallel universe as well. Maybe Adams "war on the world" means he is trying to eradicate the other parallel universe....

"Dark" was right up there with both "Maniac" and "The OA" for not only the best original content I've seen by Netflix, but some of the most potent fiction I've ever experienced in my life--in general. I haven't seen either of those shows in your videos, so I hope you check them out!
      Just for reference on my taste, I've really enjoyed your review for "The Leftovers" and "Legion," as well, and those are two others from my all time favorite stories. I think the unbeliever who gets killed by young Noah looks like an older version of Bartosz. It seems that Mid-aged Jonas, Franziska, Bartosz and Magnus travelled to the 1880s and start to build up their traveller group. their young versions + 33years are nearly the age of the persons in 1922. Magnus older version is a perfect cast.

But it's so damn more than that, and it's hard to describe it.

  • @Max-dq1tg

    Great review! Could you shed some light on why Noah was abducting and experimenting on those kids - in season 1 - when he was already an acolyte of Adam's, and thus already had access to a time machine?
    Also, in the scene where Martha (from another earth) rescues Jonas from the apocalypse, is that intended to be foreshadowing for how Adam later got his idea to build a new world? Does young Jonas/Adam have something to do with the existence of a parallel reality/world?

    • @Artuditu123
      @Artuditu123 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1: It's mandatory to allow creation of perfected machine, without it macgine in 1921 can't exist
      2: It's unclear if season's end was experienced by Adam, as middle Jonas seems unaware of Martha's existence. My theory is, "Middle Jonas" is Jonas from another timeline, so Martha died for him, but young Jonas and Adam are the same person

The time travel method is completely different, but the repeated cycles, the visit to a dystopian and militarized future (like in Steins Gate 0) and the layered revelations of the plot are very similar. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the series wraps up in cycle 3.

    I habe a theory: Noah is ultimately Magnus and Franziska's child! Noah (real name unknown so far) is a teenager in 1921. From the Sic Mundus picture you can see old Magnus and Franziska in their 50s..
    So my guess is that old Jonas took them and Bartosz to 1888 and they stayed there and grew old until they are 50 years old in 1921. Jonas would then also age for another 33 years until he's almost 90 (Adam)

    Thank you for recommending Dark. I think you mentioned it first in your review of Stranger Things. I binged watched Season 1 & 2 of Dark. You are absolutely right. It is the best thing on TV, Cable and even Film. It's that good. Comparing to Stranger Things is wrong. It has nothing to do with Stranger Things. It is so intelligent and masterfully constructed. It makes you think about real things. The things philosphers have tackled with over the ages. It's passionate without the overly graphic sex scenes. It's about humanity and our quest to understand our role in the universe. Can't wait until Season 3 the final season. Folks, this is what smart writing and talented production looks like. It can be done without the crazy over the top gimmicks and special effects. Oh, and outstanding ensemble acting.

    I have a theory that I haven't seen anyone else explore. If this is impossible please give me your input. So early in season 2 we find out that Doris teidermann is having a lesbian affair with Agnes. Im Assuming that Doris and Egon are married in 1953. Towards the end of this season Hannah travels back to 1953 and finds Ulric in the mental institution. She gives him an ultimatum that'll secure his freedom. His answer makes her realise she will always be on the back burner regardless of where and what time. While reflecting on her life and impending miserable fate over a smoke break accompanied by Egon, Hannah pretty much says "fuck it I'm going to do whatever I want. Nothing matters anymore." Egon looks at her as if it was love at first sight. Here's where my theory kicks in. I think that Egon and Hannah have a secret affair. Thus creating our other important puzzle piece...... Claudia... I know what you're thinking "Doris is her mother." Hear me out. Why make Claudia such an important character who accepts death and plays a huge role in setting the time right if her past is as simple as Egon and Doris. There needs to be some motive. Also Hannah has brown eyes and Egon has blue. They play on Claudia's heterochromia a lot in this season. What if Egon knows about Doris and Agnes and Agnes knows about Egon and Hannah and they both decide to keep this a family secret. Maybe After Hannah gives birth to Claudia she then time travels or dies? Maybe that's truely the reason Egon is living alone in in1986. Maybe Claudia has that gut feeling/deja Vu and that's why she's such a jerk to her dad because she knows she shouldn't exist or at least feels like she shouldn't. I like the idea of Hannah being more villainous then just for messing up modern day Jonas' timeline. His one mother is his villain. Kinda like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Let me know what you guys think....

    Just finished binging this show after I saw comments about it in stranger things. This show is light years better than stranger things, makes it looks like its written by 6 yr olds.
    The ending makes sense because according to Einstein time is the fourth dimension which means the answer Adam is looking for isn’t in this dimension but in another. He’s looking for the precise moment in time which started this whole mess and he’s trying to end it so he can create a new world but he doesn’t realize that moment exists on another world not this one.
    I think Claudia is ahead of him on this matter that is why she allowed herself to die. That might be a Claudia from another dimension.
    I think melty face Adam figured out how to beat Claudia in this dimension so he sent young Noah to kill her in the bunker. What he doesn’t realize is that doesn’t matter because Claudia already moved on to another dimension.
    I think in the end Claudia will triumph over Adam.
    I’m still not convinced Adam is Jonas....

    .... As the show plays out in season 1 .... this is actually cycle "X +1" (at least) ... with the real timeline where events are unaffected by time travel (TT) being indicated as "X". ... when TT becomes possible TTs events lead to alternative (and overriding) timelines "X+1, X+2, X+3...x+n"... in this case the bootstrap paradox is resolved as the events leading to the bootstrap did occur, but in a previous timeline "X+n-1". If the timeline that led to TT is unknown then the true timeline "X" timeline is also unknown. To resolve the X+n back to X you need know X - ...which in the case of the show is, from the viewers perspective and those in series (X+1 timeline), is impossible as you don't know X. Any changes you make to "X+n" takes you further away from X - at what would likely be at an increasing rate: butterfly effect on the timeline... interesting to think about multiple time travelers and how changes (X + n) impact each other and potential futures - who trumps who? My interest in the show was the explanation of how time travel was realized.... rather than the apparent time travel wars that where created by the effects of the X+N.... if they don't define X (which I don't think they can) ... then the plot feels flimsy (ie. the same paradox explanation as Predestination...it is because it just is?). ... If you want to see a good tt movie, try Primer (film) - Wikipedia...

    I watched this show because there was a poll on TH-cam and someone in the comments section said it was the best show ever. Now I'm halfway through season 3 and I'm happy I gave this show a chance. The writers created a world where anyone (from any time) can come around any corner or out from behind any tree. A world where you can encounter the same person from a different time or even from a different world, and never really truly know who you can trust. A world that challenges YOU to put yourself in the characters shoes so you can see just how mind-bending time travel can truly be. If you watched the show, then by the end of season 2 you can see just how much story there is to tell. Unfortunately, with the show ending after season 3, I feel like this show did not get the love it deserved.

    Also in time travel movies you can never confront your younger / older self because ... the universe will explode (whatever) in this series you have see characters having conversation with themselves

    Does anybody know what are the marks in Tronte's arm? They appear on the first season but on the second they doesnt explain that.

      @lesliemisaacs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lia no, they don’t ever show them again or talk about them. Maybe Noah, Tronte’s father, tested a prototype of a time machine on him and it left those marks.

      My guess is that Tronte was being abused by his father who burned him with a cigar, leading his mother to leave with him.

    Great review! Couldn’t agree more. I am pretty sure in season 3 Jonas is going to meet with The OA 😂😌

    After many shows, I can confidently say Dark has become the one I have liked the best.
    You should be more cautious with the spoilers though. You wouldn't wanna ruin the experience to those who didn't watch it yet.

    Agree 100% I think I actually like season 2 better. And I had to go on you tube to figure out exactly who was who and what was going on but I enjoyed it!

    I think this is one of the few instances where ignorance (not speaking German) is actually a blessing. The international reaction to the show seems to be more enthusiastic than in Germany itself, where quite a few critics point to the very wooden and highly pretentious dialogue as its major weakness.

      The Problem in Germany is. No one wants to produce "fiction" or scifi at all. And when some guys have a great Idea Like DARK. They even laugh over it because Time travel is silly. Its scifi goddammit its Not real. All countries rate this Show 8-10. Germany Rates it 4-5. Lol. It fills me with Anger to see this. Fritz Lang would rotate in his grave. Thats also why every good Guy that tries to make fiction here goes to Hollywood. For example Roland Emmerich.

      Tobin Erwin I watched it dubbed in English with English subtitles as well, and the funny thing is, they almost never matched up. At different times, they were both very “wooden” and lame, almost as if they were being switched back and forth by mistake. The acting was phenomenal, but yeah, the dialogue wasn’t great.

      German people take themselves too seriously 😂 I find it a bit strange that in the 80s there was no reference whatsoever to the split east/west Germany 🤷‍♀️

      I watched in original dubbing with subtitles. The original acting is very very convincing! I really liked Jonas acting. I think Magnus was impeccable. Ulrich was also very convincing. I didn't like the actress for Martha, I think in the cast she was the weakest. As for dialogues pls keep in mind that people in Germany have an accent and talk very fast..the fact that Winden is a fictional town somewhere not specified in Germany doesn't help.

    Is Jonas really Adam? The only "proof" he showed to Jonas was that he had rope scars on his neck from a hanging. There was another person that hung himself... Mikkel. Adam could very well be from another world and could be lying to Jonas... then again, I really thought Bartosz was Noah too, but we all know how that turned out.

  • @Nikioko

    There is a reason why Noah steps back in season 2. In season 1, he was supposedly the evil overlord who follows his dark plans. In season 2 we learn that he in fact isn't the evil mastermind but a henchman of Adam. And finally we learn that he isn't that evil at all, he only did it to find and bring back his daughter that went missing and left a heart-broken Elisabeth behind. Good and evil is justa matter of perspective. That is what Michael told Jonas and Noah is the best example of that. In the end, there isn't good and evil, only desperate people trapped in a virtuous circle trying to break out. And all of them have different and contrary believes how to achieve that. And since the cycle repeats itself over and over again, life and death finally doesn't matter anymore on the way to find salvation.

    The time period between 2020 and 2053 is 33 years. So, according to the timeline, Elisabeth should be 42 or 43 years old. But the Elisabeth in 2053 looks like 75 or 76. You know what that means right? 2053 Elisabeth is not actually the Elisabeth in the bunker, but she is the middle aged Elisabeth who married Noah in or after 1987.
    And I have a question about the 2053 timeline. Who is the girl who was assisting Elisabeth and helped Jonas in his mission? It also seemed like she had a connection with Jonas but how? She seems completely different and unknown.

    The non-believer at the beginning of the first episode pretty much has to be Bartosz. I mean look at him.

    This show is in a whole other universe that Stranger Things. There has never been anything like this I saw before. What an amazing show. Can’t wait to see Cycle 3 & how they bring that to Netflix.
