- In this video we are going to take a deeper look at this South Devon Mark. I want to show you what rocks you might want to work your lures from, How to find your way down to this beach and avoid the holiday crowds. We will be having a look at what lures you might select and ways of avoiding the dreaded weed as I cast our from various spots into some of the clearest UK water I think I’ve ever seen.
If you’re here just to watch for catches then this isn’t the video for you but if you want an easy venue to fish some of the best scenery here in the South west then this could be the for you.

As i said numerous times in the video ,DO NOT walk around those rocks on a flooding tide. You can get get cut off.Its worth noting i was fishing on a calm summers day, conditions can change quickly here in England and especially in Autumn and winter.
That said i hope you give it a go if you are down this way and do better than i managed! Perhaps night fishing from the beach would be more productive. as we head in to Autumn Bass catches will Improve. - กีฬา
Beer is lovely place.
Hi Matt.
Chris from Fife.
I've been out of the game since September last year severe mental health issues. But now coming out the otherside.
Your videos have been great . Hoping to get out again soon.
Many thanks Chris
Thanks for that Chris, let us know when your back out again 😀
Hi Chris, sorry to hear of your troubles, glad you've come through it and are back on track, all the best from a fellow fisherman
Nice watch and great edit. Not an ale or fish to be seen except those little pollock . All jokes aside good work you chucked everything out there. But if they ain’t there you can’t catch ‘em
Was nice to sit back for a minute or two and listen to the sea Cheers Matt nice one 👍🎣🎣
Glad you enjoyed it
Great Video as always Matt, I love you calm approach and I find your videos very informative , thank you
Nice video with some good ideas. These are all places I fish as I'm 10 minutes away from them. The water is really so clear. 😊
Thanks 👍 you live in a great part of the world
Location, location, location, totally stunning. Great upload. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. Tight lines.
Hi Mike thanks
Great video mate not done much lure fishing but them savige gear metel lures have done well for me had my very first lure caught bass on 1 of them and have had sone really good macral fishing on them with a very light fresh water lure rod. Great fun. Tight lines mate all the best 🎣🎣🎣
Yay i'm Number 1. I'm the biggest fan. Wicked!
Well done but you have to watch the whole video ! ill be asking questions.......😉
Excellent
Great info 👍
Get clearer than that down Cornwall 😁😍
Awesome video mate 👌
I knew someone would say that!
Lovely video Matt, as always, & I really enjoy your short vids that regularly pop up on my TH-cam feed. It's very interesting to see you fish somewhere I know very well & have fished for over thirty years, it really is a beautiful spot. If you visit there again, you must make a day of it & hire one of Simon Bartlett's small boats, great fun, & the possibility of quite a wide range of species. Big bass have been caught here, but not by me!
Thanks yes I’ll be back so will report back here
i was kayaking there, loads of pollock and garfish
I really like your location guides Matt, plus music. Haven't seen these for a while. Around the corner you have Budleigh which can fish well for mackerel. Easy carpark access too. Then there's Exmouth which has excellent bass fishing if you get the tide right near dawn or dusk. SG Pencils, but have had them on most patterns including mepps spinners. Those spitting wires cast surprisingly well don't they. Tight lines
Nice tips
Lovely mate,,sometimes it ain't about catching,,it a out learning new things, techniques, areas ect..just bring out at nature with peace in the mind or reflecting or even working out your week,,the water was like this down port eynon last week,,I went to culver hole amd foraging for lobster edible crab but was fruitless,,water so clear huge rock pools roughly 6 foot deep almost looked like glass and could see small spider crabs walking about or shedding as I caught a few and were soft,,shouod have kept one for bait but never used them 😮😅..Good vid again matt..no pressure just chilling.
Hi Steve - thanks for that interesting read 👍
love beer, great holidays there from the 70s 80s and nowdays. mackerel fishing on the boats, happy days. ploads of fish is you take one of the boats out, just ask totally awesome show as he loves it there.
Ahh nice one didn’t know that about TAF. My sort of boat fishing too nice and calm!
Mind you it seems you have all the spots to catch bass. I can't walk a lot owing to my MS otherwise I could maybe get to some spots. If you ever want to come down this way again you could give me a shout and we could maybe have a bass session 😊
Fished the beach at Beer on lure earlier this week. Just a 90 minute session. Strong winds and a big sea pushed me to the cliff end to get some shelter. Bit weedy and sea not at all clear but managed a 40cm bass on an olive green paddle tail lure. My first Devon bass.
Fantastic!
I moved back from the states last year & moved close to Crewkerne so I could have easy access to this area. Unfortunately I had to have surgery on my shoulder so I’ve only fished twice this year. I reckon I should be back on it in a couple of months. Another great video, cheers.
Hi Ian , thanks for the update. Bloody shoulders eh! Least you will be back on it in a couple of months - ready to catch again. At least bass are a year round target nowerdays
Wish we had such clear water up around Teeaside. Closet place for us similar is Flamborough Head 60 miles down the coast. 😏
Awesome again Matt, awesome senery, green weed 4 mullet, do u fish 4 garfish great fun on light gear not bad eating, use sabici lures 4 sand whiting (nothing like yours) cast out reel in on the bottom, no bag or size limit. Happy catching from Australia Nick
Do love your Aus updates! I didn’t like the taste of garfish- used to get them up on the Llyn but not had one for two years I. Sussex
Glad was name of mark. Thought you were on the beer early Matt.
Ha ha!😀
Brilliant video as always!
Next time you are in Devon I highly recommend Slapton sands! Be good to see a video on it
Will do, have fished there once Thanks always interested in new venues.
@@SaltwaterAngler also the Kingsbridge/ salcombe estuary:)
Was down this week fishing the coastline West from Beer.
Water was far too clear for a few days, then coloured up a bit on Sunday.
Massive shoals of small Mackerel made a nuisance of themselves close in, so had a go with a Dexter wedge to get some distance and managed a couple of small Bass.
Shame I missed you as would have loved to have shared a couple of my favourite most productive marks.
Down for another week mid September 🎣
Ps.
The local fishermen wasn’t far wrong with his advice on the fish being all gone in Beer !!
Interesting report thanks 😊
Long way to go Matt ! Hope you get a bit of luck later in the week. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Is brown/gold drift shad a new type - hairy?? 😁😄😁
Lol the dog hair special!
Unlucky the fishing is good down there. Ive caught a couple bass there. Last time i was down (about a week ago) i only caught Wrasse.
Ah interesting I’d of been happy with a Wrasse
Your trip had the same results as mine in Brixham. Great scenery at Beer though. 👍
Ohh well Brixham used to be fantastic off the breakwater
Great video Matt any chance of a Bobarda fishing video with flies please
Not forgotten this. Thanks Shug
Hi Matt what kind of flexible plastic lure do you recommend me to use for night fishing. Do you think if I insert a small phosphorus tube will work or I will scare the fish with high green or yellow color
beer also has boat hire for anglers where you can hire a little wooden diesel boat and go out sea fishing
Not the greatest beach to shore fish from due to the constant boat movement and snaggy weed beer but Seaton and Branscombe are fantastic try there next time
Thanks good tip
Matt, you ever fished Littlehampton for bass ?
it's the closest sea to me, and still over two away
Yes , I have many times. Need to go again. Float fish prawn did well there
When is the short video going up for me cheers, also what size lure rod an reel do u use an any recommendations please
A smidge under 8ft 9-28g is my perfect choice
All i can say is i love beer
I thought someone might say that - you win 😀🍺
@@SaltwaterAngler it just had to be said. Enjoying your videos keep them coming
What's the name of the hairy lure? :)
Dog whisker!
Graeme from TA Fishing goes to Beer. He hires one of those little wooden boats and goes fishing. I wanna go down there and hire one, it’s only 60 miles from me. It must be around 200 miles for you Matt?
Yes that’s it could do a day trip!
