I know it's an older video. But I have to appreciate the fact that you got this.
I'm a vet and every time I hear this song I tear up. I saw and did things that by no means am I proud of... Many of them still haunt me, and the emotions this song invokes about it are strong. Thank you for what you do.

I'm here if you need to talk. My eyes were opened when I started to realize we weren't invincible and the people who were "bad" had families and lives just like I did. I constantly fight my mind about everything that happened over there and try to push it away. I'm afraid to open up because I don't know how to and I know the war in my mind is going to be the end of me one day.

I appreciate your efforts but i think you kinda misunderstood the song. Its about manipulating a Kid, just fresh from school, into joining a War to kill people to ensure the interests of a country. Along his duty his patriotism starts to fade because what theyre doing over there cant be right. In his last lines where he sings "and i brought home that flag and now it gathers dust, but its the flag that i love. Its the only flag i had Trust." He sings about the White flag, resembling peace and that being the only flag he trusts. Not the American flag anymore.

A little detail I haven’t seen any reactors pick up, the girl that was running with a flag and he shot.. Her flag was white. She was surrendering and still got shot.

It's because all the various terrorist groups use women and children to do their dirty work. So because of this, especially in checkpoints there's choke points. Unless allowed through you have to stop give your reasons for going through the checkpoint. Or told to turn around in most cases. When they don't, you verbally warn them, then point your rifle with another verbal warning. If they don't stop you shoot a warning shot(usually 10 feet infront if them) if they continue still, then you have to shoot them. You don't find out they were surrendering and didn't understand the commands until after. That's the reality of insurgency wars.

@@uzazil The flag is also a symbol of innocence to me. Many of this children are manipulated and brain washed to act as human shields or carriers of terrorism themselves. A really sad and depraved showing of the human nature and its disregard of life for ideology.

This song reminds me of my uncle. He served in the Army from 1967-1970 in Vietnam. I never understood why he was so awkward when I was a kid. Took the last 2-3 years just sitting down and talking to him about the things he saw and/or did. What he told me are things nobody should have to think about. And how, in the early 1970s, society didn’t want to know the boys coming back home. It’s a fucking sin that young men get discarded like that.

the flag he brought home was the white flag the girl was carrying ! no matter how you look at it ,this is an anti war song ! and it rivals any from the vietnam era !

I wouldn't say it's sarcasm. It describes the difference between public perception of what soldiers do and the reality of the situation. It shows how war can make you do horrible things you never thought you could. How sometimes, soldiers do the right thing, but it weighs on them heavily. It shows a soldiers perception of himself and his actions turning negative when others see it positively. Lastly, it shows that after everything, he still cares about his county, even though fighting for it broke him.

So awesome you reacted to this. Rise Against is probably my fav punk rock band. Tim, the singer, is a well-known activist and has performed at many protests with Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine). All the guys in the band are very socially conscious though and most of their songs have a political message to them...or a message that deals with humanity in general. They have way too many amazing songs and they can play fast and hard or do the acoustic thing too. You should check out "Ready to Fall"...one of my favs and addresses how people have been harming the planet and the animals that live here with us. These guys will always hold a special place in my heart.

Rise against is the truth. They make you feel and think. Check out "Help is on the Way" it's about the total disregard for the lives of New Orleans residents during Katrina

I second this! Help is on the way is great. Also 'make it stop' and 'prayer of the refugee'. But you have to watch the music videos for them.

PLEASE react to Dermot Kennedy! Since you react to such a wide range of music, I’m going to suggest my favorite of his which is, “An evening I will not forget” but he has a lot of incredible music and lyrics. HIS VOICE 😩 He’s on the rise and I LOVE watching people listen to him for the first time.

Looking to one after other reaction of many react channels it makes me more and more mad, angry and sad to explain it again again and again.
Won't do it anymore just say check the background of the bands you react.
And change your selfish american point of view...and think also on the other side.
    It's an anti war song.
He changes his flag from national to white peace flag. Open your minds.
    Peace

Been doing exactly the same today. The problem is their focus is more on what is visually presented. I listened to this song on repeat at 2 am in the morning with my best friend while sitting on the roof. And every time I listened more and more to the words and the meaning became more clear and the message is absolutely beautiful, one of the best songs I know.
