I got 2600 miles on mine and avoid highways if possible. Yes, the bike WILL cruise at 70-75-even 80, but it is screaming and gutless at the higher speeds. If you gotta get around someone and speed up, say 70-80 it takes longer than I’d like personally. You also gotta fight the wind pretty hard, a windshield would definitely help a bit. It’s not designed to be a top speed demon or tons of aero in mind I know, but it’s definitely more suited for country roads where the speed limit is 55, or around town as a commuter. Just my opinion after putting some miles on it.

Yeah agreed about give it some time to get used to. Huge difference on highway after first oil change. At 45 mph she wants to easily run higher. Only problem i had was they spilled oil on my exhaust wraps. Burned it off for the most part.

I'd see you going in the used Harley direction, as I think you are the builder-handyman guy. For kicks, look at websites that feature bobbers/choppers using the Yamaha XS 650 engine. I think those are from the 80s. Might be right up your alley, buying one that is turn key ready or a fixer upper.

Yea, I feel that for sure! Even an older CBR750 could be dope to turn into a café racer. I just ordered some more stuff for the Rebel though so we shall see. An old resto with the Rebel as my main for now could be fun.

Just looking up rebel video’s because I’m trying to decide if it’s good enough for me or spend a couple thousand more for something bigger . The coolest thing was noticing you’re on i75 by the m24 exit where I live lol small world

lmao hell yeah I am over by the mall! But honestly after two years I'd say if you want a beefy cruiser/ touring bike grab a Harley or the 1100. If you want a naked/ sporty build id look at a 650+. The rebel 500 is kind of in the middle of both builds but is reserved being a 500. It does it's job for sure but there are moments when I want more.

I’m not doing any crazy long distance but I do worry about wanting a little more get up and go . It’s more of the reliability, price and mods you can do . Thought about a royal Enfield 650 but the service on it seems like a lot

This bike does NOT handle freeways and interstate roads well
You find yourself on 6th gear at 55 mph…. At 70 mph it’s screaming..!!!, although reaches 80, there is no real torque, it does it very slowly
It’s really for in city commutes… for that it is spectacular, but NOT for freeways
Wry comfy, super comfortable and easy to drive

Engine wise, yes, it's near redline at 80 but it does just fine IMO. I've done easily 1k miles of freeway riding with it and have had no issues. 100% is meant more for city/ country road riding but I don't limit myself.

yeah i let the Harley pass. He gets a stupid pass😂. I waited till 500 miles as well. Highway driving revs out or sounds like max rpm for the Rebel. I dont like revs that high. I am 6ft and weigh 280.

I feel that! With a rated top speed of 95, 80 is up there, but hey it's a Honda!
