And they played it so well, it really did make me cry. 1:53 "Not mean anything?" - Ooh, an interesting phrase considering Colin's relationship with physical intimacy and how it ties with his larger arc. For the kiss, I’ve heard that people didn’t like that she had to beg for it, and I understand why, but people tend to forget that reality is less ideal then what we try to paint it as. Penelope is insecure and understandably so, she’s been told her whole life that she’s not enough, will never marry and will never attract etc. It’s in a vulnerable moment that she wants to experience something she never thought she could have. She didn’t want to be romantic or hold meaning. Just a physical need. A reckless move. And I do not think Colin wanted to make her beg for it, it just means a lot to kiss someone in that era. It could change their friendship which he couldn’t comprehend, he could corrupt her ( as they say). It holds a lot of power. And he touches her honor and his. So he has some resolve about it, and also he’s just so surprised he takes a moment to realize what is wanted from him.
