  • I saw this BMW 2002tii drive down my block once and just knew I had to get it on video. I’m a sucker for older cars, and thankfully, John was willing to be on camera. Stay tuned for future videos of John’s garage, where we’ll be taking his 1989 M3 for a drive.

Nice to see a well-loved survivor, even if it's not fully put together quite yet. John is definitely on the right track with that one. Looking forward to seeing the upcoming review of the E30 M3!

He's a purist for sure and he does most to all the work himself where he can. I respect his direction when it comes to restoring a car, not really caring about it too much visually since he wants to make a car for driving, not just to look at. Hoping to record the E30 this weekend, I'm so excited man, it's like a video game come to life for me.

Huge 02 fan! Appreciate this video.
I've never had a car that I enjoyed more. It would corner like a go-cart, perform better the more you pushed it, had an amazing glasshouse; I could see everything and the confidence driving it was unmatched because I could feel the road so precisely. I even miss the smell of gasoline and vinyl. I miss the crunch the seat would make because of the old horsehair cushioning. I've had newer, faster cars but I feel more separated from the road; just not the same.

I've owned three Tiis, my very first car in fact was a Verona '73 I bought in 1983 for $6000, my mom got wrecked in it in 1989 (not her fault). I had a rusty white '72 from 1986 to 88, fastest of the three and it was stock, then another '73I bought in 1990 and restored from a pretty badly rusted daily driver to a nearly show-worthy car I drove for ten years until a lady parked in my trunk. At that time I was barely able to make my mortgage and couldn't afford to fix it, so it moved on to someone who could. Now, these cars in unmodified good condition are getting really expensive.

Oh and there's a "Do not enter" sign, two "One way" signs, and the fact that every car on the street is facing the opposite way, but clearly, those aren't enough visual indicators for some people. As always, thanks for staying till the end, much appreciated!

@@Altek1 My Dad blew the engine up around the time I was 5-6 years old, so around 1994. I remember it was a gross gold. My strongest memories of it are literally it being loaded up and towed away for the very last time. He has an unbroken record of blowing up every car in his possession. Including a MK1 Opel Manta and a few Mini 1275GTs, a Celica, a few Suzuki 4x4s and a heap of commercial vans.

Haha that's almost a skill at the rate he's going. It's hard to imagine someone buying an ugly color from a showroom. Sure, second hand you have little choice, but your parents chose gross gold. In their defense, it was probably a sweet color for the time period. If I ever need an engine destroyed, I'll be sure to call your father 😁

@@Altek1 You are referring to the "snorkel". The air intake on the standard 2002 connected to it. You will find that any 02 that has a new front will sport a snorkel. The tii fronts are literally impossible to find and are probably NLA. My tii sports a snorkel on the front panel that was replaced around 98 when it had a reasonably serious rebuild. Go to a dealer and order a new front and it will no doubt have a snorkel. I doubt any dealer these days would think there was a difference between a carb 02 and a tii.
