  • Purchased an old Pioneer P41 Chainsaw (66cc) as I needed a more powerful saw for some milling.
    After working though various issues, it runs better and is more powerful than I expected.

    I still have my Dad's P41. He bought it new. 24" bar is biggest I'll run on her anymore. Still has plenty of power. Nice reliable saws.

      Yes it’s a nice old school saw. Tons of torque.

    Awesome job! We used to have the P41 and a P28 when I was a kid. Used to do all the wood for winter. Brings back a lot of memories... Cheers!

    That is a nice saw. I have a P41, here in England, which I purchased at a local auction. Spent a little time getting it going, but runs pretty well now. It didn't have felling spikes, and parts are not so easy to obtain, as you say. So I ended up making spikes for it, from a sheet of 2mm thick hardened steel. Nice to get these classic vintage saws going again.

      Right on! These older saw don't rev as high as newer saws but you can't beat their low end grunt!

  • @garyjordan3181
    @garyjordan3181 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good job on the saw, you just can't beat the vintage chainsaw, their made of metal not so much plastic, little more weight but once on the log all you have to do is pull the trigger. Great video 👍

      Yes, especially like the torque it has.

      Yes, its a neat older machine. Many of them have the engine flat, laying front to back.

      Every once in awhile when I switch from my small Stihl to the Pioneer I'll rest the saw on my leg, and very briefly that muffler reminds me it's there. Lol.

    Really enjoyed this video, bought a new P40 for thinning contracts in '73, used a 28" bar to avoid bending over so far , would run it all day, it's a great saw!

    Can you further explain the porting you did. Did you adjust timing or just widen the intake and exhaust

    Great Saws! I'm missing the four bolts for starter cover - do you happen to know the thread and lengths? I can't seem to locate info anywhere. Thanks for the thorough video.

    • @VincesDIYs
      @VincesDIYs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its an 10/24 thread pitch x 3/4 inch for the 3 short ones. The long one is the same thread pitch and 2.5 to 3" long.

    Does all that cleaning on the outside make the saw cut better? It is a saw and will get covered with sawdust within a few minutes of starting to cut!

    • @VincesDIYs
      @VincesDIYs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gives 3 extra HP :) I do it on any used saw I buy as its a good time to go over everything and see if there are any issues.
