    Amazing Infomation. It took me a long time to learn some of all these (which you provided here easily) and I still found new ones here. I wish I found this earlier. It would have save me a lot of stress. Kindly do more advance stuff for us like installation of luci-app-nft-qos, Sierra Wireless MC7455, moving the menu around, like to the left hand side, blacklist/Whitelist of MACs, etc etc. Thumbs up man.

    Really well done in creating your on-going OpenWRT video's!
    As my router is slowly dying, I am dusting off an old PC and getting hold of a 2nd NIC, all to have a go at creating a desktop PC as a router :)
    Thanks for the inspiration!

      Thanks for the feedback. Actually you can run OpenWRT with single network port and a switch that supports VLAN (however I still recommend 2 different NIC for WAN and LAN). There are also other OpenWRT tutorials on the channel including OpenWRT on x86, give it a shot if you need any video guide on the installation process.

    This is an excellent tutorial. I am attempting to connect "again" my BTHomeHub5, running OpenWRT 21.0.2, to my VDSL IP (Plusnet - UK), using the vdsl input into the modem/router coming from the exchange. I had managed to do it a couple of days ago, but it s quite fiddly at connecting to the net (I can sync with the exchange, but, despite following these instructions, I need to create a new dsl0.101 interface - needed by Plusnet, and I am not clear of what else it is needed in the OpenWRT settings).

      Hi, I have more then 1 router and the process is very simple. However, if you are having only 1 router you can use SSH to set it up:
      - Setup your WAN interface (DHCP, PPPoE) by editing /etc/config/network or using uci commands
      - Setup your OpenWRT as AP client
      - Once there is a working internet connection, run opkg update & opkg install luci and that is.

      Hi, I am not really understand your question, please provide more info about your actual network setup and the devices you are using, if you want to discuss more about it here. You need to find out which protocol is used by your network provider and then configure the same on OpenWRT. For example, the ISP provided a router and deploying the internet using PPPoE. Now, if you want to replace their router with a new one running OpenWRT, you need to setup your WAN interface as PPPoE Client. Most of the network providers are using a GPON router + PPPoE where the device is connected to the fiber cable and act as a optical network terminal, as the same time running PPPoE to establish the internet connection. This is just the first video in my OpenWRT tutorial playlist, to know more you go to the channel homepage and have a check.

    • @VanTechCorner
      @VanTechCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see, so you got my answer above. In this case it is not just the modem, I assume it is a GPON router which convert the optical signal to electronic signal, and then running PPPoE to establish the internet connection. Of course you can't simply replace the ISP router since they only accept their own device (by checking the MAC, the SLID and maybe serial number when it is trying establish the PPPoE connection). You can contact your ISP if you want to do so.
