  • In this video, I go through the math behind the infamous the Citicorp Center crisis of 1978 crisis that stemmed from a civil engineering student asking about its design.
My two main sources for this video are:
The original New Yorker article (www.newyorker....)
LeMessurier's lecture at the National Acedemy of Engineering
    ( • William LeMessurier-Th... )

Thanks for adding the structural analysis. In one of Dr. Ressler's Great Courses lectures, he also points out this case as an example of good engineering ethics in that LeMessurier took the question seriously, researched it instead of rationalizing it away, and went through an extensive process to improve the structure.

I can't help but wonder what other skyscrapers have issues that result from a change in code, change in climate, and budget conscious subcontractors less concerned about safety.

I am finally happy that now you are finally creating videos which actually shows the math and physics behind the structural systems. Looking forward to more such helpful content ❤

such a cool video!! all the animated diagrams were fascinating and easy to understand, even for a non-engineer :)

Love it, great overview. Add this to my list of reasons for asking lots of questions as a student 😆
One note, maybe boost the audio some, had to turn my volume up a good bit compared to other TH-cam, and should be a pretty easy fix hopefully

obviously this guy didn't do his due diligence when researching this story - NIST recently analyzed the wind loads and determined that the quartering winds were the danger that was thought by LeMessurier (and Hartley) - this guys calculations need to be compared to NIST's
