- If you mower belt keeps slipping off your Troy-Bilt Pony, it's probably missing the deck belt covers. It's easy to fix and I'll show you how and what parts and tools you need. Don't worry, it's not that expensive and you can do it yourself with a 3/8 inch wrench. You can use a either a regular wrench or a ratcheting socket wrench. (You could even use a pair of pliers in a pinch.)

I've had to borrow my cousin lawnmower this summer, and last week I was cutting went to engage the blade and noticed nothing was happening. I moved the lawn mower and saw a black piece laying on the ground. I didn't know where it came from. Later looking around I could see the belt was off up front and noticed the part was the deck belt cover. I figured this kept the belt from slipping. Thanks for the video and all the info, also the message at the end.
Glad it was helpful
Man, you rock! I've had the belt on our Bronco 42 slip repeatedly, and I didn't even know the belt covers were a thing. I just hit the Troy Bilt website and sure enough, there they are. Can't wait to make this fix and I think I owe you a beer! THANK YOU!
Awesome! Glad it helped you out!
Thanks Pastor Chris Mullis! My belt's been slipping and my wife found one of those thingys shredded up in a bush yesterday! Like some others said, I didn't even know anything was missing.
@w.l.h. glad to help!
Wow. Thank you man. One of my guards had broken, been about a year, and that explains my issue….you da man…appreciate it all the way from Vermont
@valleyangler cool! I'm so glad it helped. Thanks for letting me know. And BTW, vlVsrmont is one of the 8 states I haven't been to yet.
Just purchased the exact mower from a co-worker. Belt slipped off the other day. Low and behold, one of the covers is missing. *Thanks* .!
Glad you figured it out!
I found the following on the Troy-bilt website. Hope it helps.
If the engine dies when the cutting deck is engaged, there is likely one of the following three possible scenarios:
The riding mower is in a reverse gear. If the mowing deck is engaged and the unit is in reverse, the mower will shut down as part of a safety feature.
An object or obstruction (such as an ant hill, clump of matted grass clippings or large tree branch) is jammed underneath the cutting deck or in the cutting deck drive system preventing the moving parts from engaging properly. Inspect for obstructions and carefully remove if necessary.
The electrical system may be experiencing a short or improper ground somewhere throughout the length of the wire harness. This could be sending a false signal to the safety interlock system. This false signal may be sensing that the operator is up out of the seat or the unit is mowing in reverse even though that may not be the case. For this situation a thorough inspection of the electrical system and possible repair of the wire harness is needed. Please use our Dealer Locator to make arrangements for local service and repairs.
Thank you brother for including Biblical Scripture with your video. We were not put on this globe just to serve us but to serve first our Lord and God Jesus Christ, then our neighbors. Thank you again for your videos. I look forward to viewing them.
@johnfoy5760 Amen. I appreciate the encouragement. Glad the video and Scripture was helpful. Thanks for taking time to comment.

I’ve been dealing with this issue for the longest time. Never knew I was missing covers.
Glad I could help.
I have a new 42in riding mower and it didn't come with covers, Must be another reason
@@krichards8472 Hmmm... mines a 2021. Hope you figure it out.
I have a craftsman t1200 the belt keeps jumping off can’t figure out what the problem is sometimes it will allow me to mow awhile before jumping off but I have to mow with the deck lever on 3 if I try to mow on anything lower will pop off or if I raise or lower deck it will come off any ideas what problem could be
I'm not sure. Is that Craftsman the same as the Troy-bilt Pony?
@@pastorchrismullis I’m not sure I really don’t know to much about riding mowers
Might have the incorrect belt size on? Or the v-Grove on the belt might be inside out?
@@EmanandAbbie the belt is on correct and it’s the factory size belt but I have also tried a bigger size belt and ive tried a smaller belt to make it tighter and the same thing happens it pops off been going crazy trying to figure out why it’s happening
Looking at pics I found online, it looks like the same mower as the Troy Bilt. I'm having the same issue with ours. Anything lower than 3 and it chucks the belt. New belt and even went 1/2" shorter. I think it's just a bad design. I have the pulley covers on mine and it still does it.
Super tip. Problem solved!
Glad it helped!
Both of my covers are installed correctly and my belt keeps coming off.
Brand new belt last year too...
😕
There is also a belt retention bracket. Have you checked that?
@@pastorchrismulliswhere is that bracket?
My belt doesn't fall off but the lower i set deck it doesn't have enough tension on the belt what could i check
The belt may have stretched
@@pastorchrismullis its a new belt
@MrFreakfortatt 🤷♂️ you might do a google search and see if there's a tensioning pulley adjustment.
Amen
Thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Godbless brother
Thanks!
I replaced the belt and with new covers and the belt keeps slipping off , what else is there ?
Thankfully, I haven't had that problem. Try this upgradedhome.com/how-to-tighten-the-belt-on-a-troy-bilt-riding-mower/
Why did this work?
There's a lot of slack in the belt and retainer helps keep it from riding off the pulley
❤Amen
deuteronomy 22:13-30 also says, stone women to death if they lie about being a virgin. So let's not be quoting bible verses maybe
I’m here for the mow jobs
