ULTIMATE BIKC 2022 GUIDE | British Indoor Karting Championship 2022

- I have been seeing a lot of questions in the run up to the next edition of the British Indoor Karting Championship, I had some free time so I thought I would make it into a video. Feel free to send this to anyone who may have any question about the competition.
Obviously I can't answer everything but from a drivers perspective I have tried to offer the best possible advice for being successful in the competition. BIKC brings together the best drivers from all around the country and challenges everyone in different ways.
Whether you're starting out in go karting or going for a title, this competition will have it all and is a very easy and accessible way to get into competition karting in the UK.

@@ChristopherBallKarting Hi, sorry if this was mentioned in the video, but does the championship take place at different tracks in the UK, or only the one you qualified for? I hope you get what you mean.
@@sigmarules3967 All 35 TeamSport tracks in the United Kingdom offer entry to the competition. You will just have to find the one closest to home for you
@@ChristopherBallKarting Yeah but what I mean is, if you qualify for the championship, will it require you to travel to all the tracks in the UK to race, or will the races only take part at the one you qualified at?
@@sigmarules3967 Once the local final has ended 4 tracks will then meet at a 'regional final' which I explain and show you the locations of those finals at 4:20 in this video 🙌🏻

Great video, it really helped but i have one question how does the qualifying system work is it a race and the people on podium qualify or is it the fastest lap times that qualify?
Hey! So the top 24 drivers will qualify for the local final based on laptime.
Then at the local final the top 6 drivers based off finishing position will go to the regional finals.
At regionals the top 3 on the podium qualify for the grand final off podium position 😃

With regards to the 3 fastest lap times (separate 3 sessions) that are then used to give you an average in the 1st qualifying steps for BIKC, do you have to specify before each session that whatever your fastest lap that session will go towards the 3 fastest lap times or could I go to the track on 6 different occasions and they would pick out my 3 fastest lap times across the sessions?
So they will get a database with all the times in (that you view through the app)
That system will automatically tell the track the fastest 3 laptimes ever set by that driver during the qualifying period that were set in 3 different booked sessions.
I would recommend just noting down your best 3 laps after June 1st 2022 so you can compare it to the times they will have.

How much does weight affect karting? So if someone was 50kg going against someone who is 100kg would there be a massive different or just a small one?
Huge
If you found two drivers of identical skill and understanding. You can work it out at around 10kg = 0.20 a lap.
So in this instance the closest the 100kg driver could get is about 1.0-1.1s with all equal circumstances taken into account.
Isn't it just 2 people who get through from the regional final or at least it was last year because I finished 3rd and didn't make the final but got a wild card and went on to win the cadet class.

This year they have allowed the top 3 cadets to progress to Warrington! In previous years it has been a bit awkward seeing a cadet get 3rd then not progress 😄

What gloves and boots do you use when karting?
My main gloves are custom from the team I drive for. I have a back-up pair of Sparco Rush in light blue and they are great and have last over 2 years and 100+ uses.
My boots are Sparco KPole in same light blue. Another great purchase, lasted over 2 years and 100+ events. Through rain and shine.

Are the races in each section based on best lap time in the final or finishing track position? Thanks
Hey Chris,
From regionals onwards you start with that 15 min qualifying. That will set the grid for 2 races (see my regional final video for an example of this)
Then your best laptime will put you ahead of any drivers who scored the same amount of points as you from the heats.
The Semi final will be worked out from this system and then once again its based off your fastest lap being better than the driver adjacent to you in the other Semi Final. (Another example from my most recent video. I came 1st place in my Semi Final but had a slower laptime than the other 1st place Semi, meaning I started 2nd for grand finals)
It's super hard to explain this format in some ways, but I would say get your son down to your local track ASAP and get that practice going! Competition gets bigger every year 😃
@@ChristopherBallKarting I just did the school bikc practice sessions today and it was terrible. The first session which was 12 mins I came second which is scored by fastest laps. Then the second session is scored by how many laps you do, and I came 7th. So many people were cheating (overtaking in yellow, etc) so that just goes to show how many cheats there we’re

So it costs £35 for the license to enter all those races ? I imagine there are fees for each race to cover costs surely?

Elite Membership - £34.99
then you must purchase three separate racing sessions at a TeamSport track. This can include members nights, public sessions and even use of offers such as 'race again vouchers' (I'll let them do the selling on that part for you!)
Entry to Local Final - £40
Entry to Regional Final - £60
Entry to National Final - £80
If you win at the local or regional finals you progress for free to the next stage of the competition
