You are the only YT’er that when I start a video I know to get my Thai notepad out because I’ll likely find another great priced ocean view place to crash at. 🍻
I love your content. I’m 68 and transitioning to a Thailand retirement. I was keying on Hua Hin when I started on my journey as I stayed there many times 10 years ago or so. Then I discovered your content. As I’ve watched I’ve been thinking about going farther south. My goals revolve around quiet communities, good night markets, good medical services, and access to large stores for those things I can’t live without. Surat Thani/Khanom is, as you say, ticks all the boxes. Thanks.
You're an incredible resource. Have paid your channel forward. I haven't been to Thailand since 1996 BC (before child, in BC). It's on my bucket list now. Thanks dude!
Thank for sharing these wonderful experiences. That place is as you say truly idylic, makes me want to get on a plane a forget all my troubles over here.
Once again , amothe great video that makes me want to pack and spend another 3 months travelling ! I use your vids exclusively to plan my itinary and although I dont stay ... or cant stay at the same places due to vacancy issues at times , your vids have allowed me to see some amazing and out of the way places I would never have gone to ! Thanks mate , sencing the Travel love from down under ❤❤❤❤🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I am flying to Thailand soon and I am determined to spend another great weeks in the Hua Hin area, but your videos are making me think more and more about the Khanom area. I love Thailand but without tourists, I wanna hang out with locals. But I have the overall feeling from this and previous videos that if I compare it to the prices in Hua Hin, Khanom is more expensive in everything - restaurant, gym, accommodation etc...Just another great video from you, thank you man
STL time 🤩 - Happy new year 🎆 Sir - great to view another masterful production on Khanom 🙏- we the subscribers are privileged to rejoice in your complete doco presentation ✔️ - All the best & look forward to more soon 👋👍🙏
I stayed at Margarita Beach in July for 6 nights just to unplug. It's a great spot, beautiful beach/water, great food and Nipa style huts. I only paid $29/n probably low season.
I spoke with Dan a few nights around Christmas time the month. Nice guy, good conversationalist. He's got a good set of regulars that hang out at his place. I didn't speak with Nina at all. I'll be looking to stay at his place next year when I go back to Khanom. Thanks to you, I did a scooter trip from Hua Hin to Khanom last month on a Honda PCX 160. That's a good 300 miles plus. I rented from Skootz in Hua Hin. Anyhow, back to Margarita Beach next year for me. The beach is long and there was nearly no one on it last month before and after Christmas...I think the most that I saw on my walk, all the way down to the wall at the north end of that beach, was a family of six, me and another stray, lone walker. There's no one on it. It does nee to be cleaned up though....like all beaches around the world.
Hey STL, from a new subscriber, absolutely loving your vlogs...I lived on Koh Samui for 10 months back in the late 90s n loved every minute of my time there, haven't been back since and probably wouldn't like the pace now! Hua Hin looks perfect along the back streets to lay one's hat for a long stay! Keep them chilled vlogs coming please. Thanks mate.
G'day mate and another great Video. I love Jimmy Buffett and if you don't mind,, I've seen previous videos of yours which you have shown beach festivals of music and was wondering,, what's the best time of year to visit these wonderful fests. Thanks again and keep videoing for us.🙏😀
Yep, nice folks & fantastic place! Any looking in, for some epic Thailand bike journey's and life updates from Tony and his lovely wife's place in Phang Nga have a look at his channel @badbadgerretiredinthailand
Ok, you hooked us. My wife and I have our plane tickets for 4/1. I've booked our 1st few nights at Mai Khao Hotel, then we need to find transportation to Khanom, I have booked at Hallo Villa from 4/7-4/10. That's all we've booked so far, but we were considering an overnight train towards Hua Hin. Maybe stop around Sam Roi Yot, then Hua Hin, and up to Cha Am. We do have our final days booked at the Politan Rive, a 53rd floor condo from 4/23 - 4/28 then we plan on hopping a flight back to Phuket for our departure on 4/29. We really ❤ and appreciate ALL your videos, you really seem like a pretty cool fella! 😁 We hope you'll be around one of these areas in April, would like to say hi and maybe even buy you a cold 🍺, etc. This is our 1st ever adventure like this and will be an exploratory of sorts, as we're considering retiring there in about 2 years. Anyway, ty for sharing all the wonderful videos. You are truly a gift to Thailand. We our coming from a very small town called Loco, Oklahoma. So, this trip is a HUGE step out of our norm. Appreciate all you tips and advice 4sure. Wish you all the best in your travels and your future.
For 1st timers that's an amazing itinerary! You really cover some lovely spots. I almost moved to Politan Rive, love the riverside location in Bangkok and can take boat or MRT to center. You'll also be here for Songkran, an amazing event and about as far removed from Oklahoma as one can get I imagine! Not sure where I'll be during that time but do keep us updated via the comments and let's see. Happy travels! STL
There was actually a store in Aspen in the 70s called ‘The everything store.’ I haven’t lived in Aspen for years (too built up now), but I fondly remember that store. Blessings! 🙏🏻 Jess.🌹
We discovered this area because a few times missing the Koh Phangan ferry. So we sometimes delay our trip home and head along the coast. But of late there is a lot of construction going on sadly.
I love your vlogs. this part of Thailand is so chill affordable, less tourists compared to other places like Hua Hin, Krabi etc, its so idyllic. Having Surat Thani Airport is such a bonus. The reason why I dislike Hua Hin is it looks too much of a city beach and has no airport, middle of nowhere. But in this Khanom area with the airport, it is worth going to escape the crowds and only a 2.5 hr drive to Krabi
Love your videos STL. That is my kind of area. Would love to have a little house in that area. Can't wait for your next one. Would love to see some prices on small houses to rent or buy.
Hello @SideTripLife ! We love your videos and have been watching them for a while now🤩 in a few weeks we are going to Thailand for a whole month. We start off in Bangkok, then make our way to Chiang Mai but we’re not sure about where to go next. Would you recommend going to Koh Chang/koh Kood or Phuket/Krabi? We’re doubting and wish we could do it all at once but that’s obviously impossible😅 Thanks for the inspiration 🙏
If you mean a couple sundowners at CC's or happy hour at Margarita Beach plus the odd jam sesh at Jam bay, pretty much covered it in prev vids (nice n chill sums up:) Might also pop into Once Upon a Time upcoming, plus a reggae jam so stay tuned...
Your videos are absolument great. We are about to leave for Thailand in a couple days. Which esim would you recommend both for the north and south? Airlo or Holafly. Thanks.
Hi! Really enjoy your vids! It would be really helpful if, when you stay somewhere, you could point where the nearest amenities such as banks are. My Thai bank for example is, Bangkok Bank.😊
Love your videos. My wife and I are going to Thailand for a month and are planning on being in khanom for 5 days early March. Wondering what the best way to get around is. Do you recommend renting a scooter for the whole time we are there or is there local transportation available. Thanks gor any input you have and again love your videos.
I just left Khanom after 12 days. Nice, quiet place. It isn't going to stay that way long if they build that brindge that the locals at Margaritaville told me about that is in planning stages. 9.3 kilometers of nearly empty beach.
A 25km long bridge to Koh Samui is undergoing hearings with construction proposed to begin in 2029. Not 'directly' from Khanom Beach but just up the coast. Will be looking at this in more detail upcoming.
We stayed at Margarita Beach in Khanom in 2023, Dan and his staff are great. Then last year we stayed at Le Petit Saint which is also a wonderful place to stay on the beach. You feel like you have the beach to your self even at peak time. But can you stop showing people Khanom please😅, it will be over run with tourists 🤣🤣we want to keep it quiet and peaceful! lol
Great video and excellent information. I am wondering what the insect situation is like in South East Asia. Can you provide information on this. It might seem like a minor issue, but I get severe reaction mosquito bites and I am hoping to visit Thailand, Malaysia and possibly Indonesia. Thanks
Anywhere in the tropics you can get mossies (or worse, sand flies). Cities are generally ok but beach and jungle/foiliage areas can be a problem especially at dawn and dusk. Just wear repellent and perhaps try Systral cream for bites, it's a non-steroidal antihistamine cream which relieves bites immediately. Maybe try Bangkok for a few days then take a trip to a beach town and test it out. Good luck and happy/not itchy travels.
@SideTripLife Sorry if this has been asked and answered in a past video. Didn't see anything. What are your recommendations for travel between Surat Thani and Khanom? Bus or taxi? Approximate cost? Thanks.
The bus station at Kaset 1 Market in Surat Thani has mini vans going to Khanom hourly approx 100B. Or, contact 'Phantip Travel' online, great service similar price, office also at bus stn. Another option, for private car try GRAB app - just looked and it said 752 Baht.
@@SideTripLife Thanks a lot for the info. FYI - I contacted Phantip directly. They said two weird things: 1) They have no service from Surat Thani to Khanom, and 2) they only run from Surat Thani to the train station, not the reverse. The mini-vans and Grab both sound good.
Thanks for the update. Phantip used to pickup from the train stn and go to Khanom (via Don Sak). Fortunately at the train stn there's other mini vans/tuk tuks etc but would try Grab also and compare. Especially with bags and more than one person a private car might be worthwhile for a few bob more. Also, check Kaset 2 bus stn around the corner from Kaset 1 as they also ply Khanom - but try to get a direct mini van vs a milk run bus which stops at every hamlet along the way.
Had 50 years of "petrol stations" then, had to change to gasoline stations in Thailand. Now you say petrol stations! This is really messing with my brain... Great vlog. Love Khamom beach.
@SideTripLife Hi. I know this was only posted 5 days ago, but I believe it was filmed much earlier. Seems it was still the rainy season. Do you remember when that was?
