    Great looking SSS
I was working as a car detailer at the Datsun dealership in Launceston and regularly drove these, along with 240k, 240z, 260c and 120y's
    Great memories

@@STREETCARCULTURE Datsun's rival to the Toyota Crown.
Softest car I'd ever driven, but I had a lowered EH wagon at the time lol

Georgeous looking car! I love the sound of the doors opening and closing with that kind of a smooth harsh sound.

Beautiful 180B!! I got a jdm mdl 1975 1800 SSS Bluebird U last year and am slowly redoing it. Too much surface rust and i am having to go over everything inside and out.
Not so many 180b builds for inspiration in Japan I am finding.

NIce...never cared much for the 180Bs cause the 1600s are so cool, but this is cool. love the colour, mirrors, wheels...very neat. Nice taste in interior too.

Aww... to think i had one (nearly) just like it as my first car... LHD euro spec 1975 5-speed w brown interior (i think we only got such). Brings back memories this one, super restoration. So much better built than the 4-door and not really much of the body is the same for that matter. Parts was scarce here in Sweden even when they reached the age of 10 so i had to order many spares from Japan back then, pricing in the BMW range. Since then i´ve learned that the 5-speed gearbox (the one with the first gear downwards) was built by Hitachi as a licensed clone of a ZF box intended for some hi-perf BMW and that one takes a lot of beating but by now one really shouldn´t whip it ;-).
Should you be working on your own resto project this might be of interest: The engine is the same family as the Z-cars and as such originated as a Mercedes car engine (1958 i think) built on a license by Prince Motor Co. (later incorporated with Nissan which got the Skyline model name with that) but came to be reworked a couple of times by Nissan´s engineers and as older owners may know it answers well to tuning. As far as i can remember many internal specs matches with some european engines of the period but i won´t get into that, except that the chain for the camshaft transmission is a match for the Saab 2.0 (99, 900), give or take a few links. The L-series engines had a name change when it finally was given a new 16-valve head for its last incarnation but it´s been said that otherwise it is virtually the same engine. The third member was built by Fuji Heavy Industries and is said to be interchangeable with the LSD type found under some Subarus such as the classic BRAT (Leone) pickup of the same period and onwards. The entire IRS is the same as for the 160J of the same generation, at least then it was easier to find. The universal joints in the transmission are the same as some old Fiat, as i recall propably the 124/125 and/or 131 series and i believe Lada Niva uses them too but check it out. Oh, and the rear shocks can be substituted with ones made to fit the european Ford Capri mk II (i guess the mk III used the same) if you don´t mind the stiffer ride.

Those 5 speeds were bulletproof. I could go from 5th to 3rd doing 100km and it'd compression lockup. I had a 74 SSS. I also had 2 76 4 doors. One had the motor built by a guy who built turbo'd motors for the speedway races over here. Now that was wild. It'd do 120km/h in second... after the wheels had stopped spinning, in second. My third datto, the original motor died. So I went down the wreckers looking for a new motor. And there was a 1600 done up as a rally car. Now I knew a lot of rally drivers loved the L18s over the L16s, so I checked the block... L18.
Told the wrecker that I wanted that motor. Got the gearbox as well, thinking it was the 180b 5 speed... turned out to be the Bluebird 5 speed... gutted. It's shorter than the 180b one. But that motor was worked. Pulled up next to a roadworthy 1600 rally car at the lights one day. He thought he'd blow me into the dirt. He was mildly surprised when I went with him change for change. Would easily pull 170 in third on the old slushbox 4 speed.

    Nice Datsun...
Needs a set of Bonnet Heavy duty hoist springs on each side, to hold the bonnet up....... because you will notice every time you support it with the factory bonnet leg rod on one side , it warps the bonnet setting.....and over time it will cause it to sit an inch higher on one side . .....
Then will allow moisture over time .... 👌🤎🤎
