    • @mastergee7075
      @mastergee7075 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      No crunching means people work on the games for less hours so it kinda makes sense, also I would suppose the studio was much smaller than insomniac
      But also usually I try to understand devs but I think in this case there really was some clear incompetence, like how do you release a game that's 70% boring ass minigame sections knowing damn well those are the least liked sections in most R&C games? That's just plain reta**ed, not much else to add

      And the Clank segments felt like challenges to take down as many enemies as possible in "stealth" mode, getting better at solving the short QTEs every time I tried

      between Insomniac's PS2 era games ended with Ratchet: Deadlocked (2005) and the PS3 era games which begun with Tools of Destruction (2007) started,
      for me, The quality of the Franchise and Ratchet and clank being themself how the original trilogy teached us, it felt like a complete swap out.
      It all kinda ended when the Future games Saga (PS3 titles of the series) started
      I always felt like Ratchet & Clank Size Matters was the real 5th game because Ratchet and clank was way more like they used to be in the Original games, also their home was always at the Solana-Galaxy throughout anyway so It immediately connects to these games with that
      Even though the Concept for Secret Agent Clank was something quite different, I felt it was the perfect 6th game of the series, where it then should ended for the sake of the franchise.
      Afterwards, the PS3 saga games felt so different from what Ratchet & Clank originally was in terms of their behavior, the Crazy, out of touch new lore, the visual of the characters and the overall storytelling.
      I think another important thing to point out is, that of course the PSP was a weaker System other then the PS2, so of course the "PSP games" looked like trash graphically
      other then that, they made everything right with these two games and the Series should ended there.
      Sorry, but all this crazy lore about the "last of his race guy" meeting "the time keeper robot" by complete coincidence wasn't really doing it for me!

    Fun Fact, on the ps2 edition of secret agent clank, your only loading screen is the typical ratchet & clank "flying through space in your ship to your destination" animation. But it goes through 10 extremely slow and painful cycles each time IF your copy is pristine with no issues, instead of this fabled "Captain Quark Thinking" loading screen that I have never even heard of until this video.
    Which is a bit perplexing when you consider this means that when clank is stranded in space and the gameplay cuts to a quark section, you STILL SEE clank's ship flying through space, even though he's, well, stranded.

    These games were so cursed, appreciate you suffering through them to document them. I still remember as a kid where my stubbornness led me to managing to eventually (very eventually) beat Klunk on NG+, and once I finished the credits sequence I accidentally warped back. SAC was pure suffering. Also remember more recently playing Size Matters a few years ago for a stream during a Ratchet marathon and trying to 100% that game on emu. Tried to make it through Inside Clank to do the wrench only skill point, only to actually do it and... not get it long into the playthrough in one stream. Never again lmao. I will say the one thing I'll say about the armor system is that I got around Otto's absolute garbage fight using the firebomb set (the Mega bomb set with wildfire gloves) to deal damage to his shield to save ammo, and it did decent enough damage? Still a miserable experience though.

    • @garfieif8187
      @garfieif8187 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It seems like a forced meme, honestly. Size Matters was mindblowing on release, and Secret Agent Clank was a fun little spinoff. I noticed a lot of Nostalgia Critic-esque "angry reviewers" have been tearing into these handheld games for not being up to par with the ps3 titles, and people are taking those reviews completely at face value.
      Maybe it's newer fans who only played the series after it started taking itself way too seriously. They're flawed, sure, but none of the flaws are pervasive enough to destroy the games on fundamental levels. Secret Agent Clank probably has it worst with overly long gadgebot sections, but that's not what people complain about there. They only complain about the absurdity of Clank playing a secret agent character. I guess they don't realize that Secret Agent Clank was actually a thing from UYA? With Size Matters most of the complaints are about the ps2 port not looking as good as the other ps2 games, which is... yeah, an astute observation. The 2007 handheld game does, in fact, look inferior to the console games.

    I think the funniest detail of the plot summary Bolt gives during this maddening secret agent game is that one of the stages has clank ALSO being framed and that is not acknowledged even slightly right after the framing cutscene happens!

    Something I'd like to share. The two psp games were my introduction to the serie as a young teen. My dad and brother were Xbox folks so I would only get to enjoy more of the serie on my future ps5 with reboot and rift. Yet, I absolutely loved the psp games for all of my childhood (and the two Jack and Daxter games). Of course now I can compare just how simpler and jank these were, but they still cemented my love for the franchise. It's actually a similar phenomenon I had with Diablo 3. Sometimes, a simpler entry in a serie can be an entry point for new players, especially younger ones. And in a serie like R&C where the mainline quality stayed intact, I think these smaller window in were a benediction.

    I do understand Size Matters has many flaws but it seems like most try their best to hate it instead of just having fun like the devs surely intended. I do appreciate how deeply you thought about its issues though, and the implications they have on other elements of the game/series. You've done that much better here than other videos I've seen regarding this subject. Size Matters needed a lot of polish and fine tuning, no disputes about that. However, and especially regarding the "no really this game is bad go play it again" comment... I can't agree. I'm still able to enjoy a playthrough. The vivid settings, great music and creative designs do a lot to sell the experience for me. Yes I could piece apart everything and point at what's bad, but I'd prefer to just... enjoy the game and not take it this seriously. Great video all the same, I learned a lot!

    Despite what the marketing says, I think insomniac's sassy tweet is still correct. I mean, clank says word for word in 3 "Secret Agent Clank is merely a fictional character I play on the holovid." Personally, my favourite theory is it being an in-universe reboot of that fictional series, which bombed so badly we never hear about clank's movie career again.

  • @BoltSpider

    I am glad that this video came out finally to wrap things up outside of the phone games and whatever insomniac is brewing up right now. This game feels like another form of Blind Nostalgia from the past where we thought it was good, but ended up being so bad it was mostly unplayable for either of the two, even though I enjoyed Secret Agent Clank more than Size Matters.
    I do have a question, would you considered doing these form of videos on any of the yugioh games from the past?

    Here's something I want you to consider; Roberto Rodriguez never cared about anything except money. He didn't form High Impact to reduce crunch, he did it because his lead programmer salary wasn't enough to satisfy the empty hole of his sad, worthless shell. He hates himself. He will never actually be happy. When a new industry trend arises, he'll jump to that instead, like he's done so many times, despite it worsening the gaming industry.

Also loved the online features, there was a bug back then if you play with 2 people a deathmatch and press some button (circle I guess) at the last second you can change your team, so with my best friend we put deathmatches free for all and at the last second we changed it 2 vs 1 it was hilarious.
