Well I got the VDDQ voltage wrong it's not VDD2 it's a whole separate thing. I'm not redoing the video. EDIT: Also Y cruncher is running so quickly because the board auto enabled AVX512 when I disabled the E-cores

Good guy fan, sending BZ this board to make educational content with for everyone. Been extremely happy with my 12600kf and Z690. Not a perfect platform but a huge upgrade for me.
Create a desktop shortcut from the command 'shutdown -r -fw -t 0' to directly boot into the UEFI. You just need to set the shortcut to always run as admin.
To do this, right-click anywhere>New>Shortcut, then paste the following as the location: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k shutdown -r -fw -t 0 The name can be anything you want
I'm still rocking a 3770k rn, and decided to delid+LM and upgrade to some faster super cheap used DDR3 and just OC it until I was happy with it. I managed 2600MT cl11 but I hit rollover really quick, and no matter what I did, 1T would give me a weekly crash (usually in a 1v1). You mentioned linpack gflops so I decided to compare mine at 1600 cl9 to 2400/2600 cl11. 100 to 105 between the 1600 and 2400, but no performance increase to 2600. Also this is a bottom of the bin CPU and can't do 4.5GHz even at 1.45v. Love your videos, seems like I learn something new to try from each one.
On my Z390 Asus tWR = tWRPRE - tCWL - 4. tRDPRE = tRTP. tWTR_L = tWRRD_sg - tCWL - 6 and tWTR_S = tWRRD_dg - tCWL - 6. Looks like that 6 is probably a 4 on their Z690 boards. You can enable RTL training and disable fast boot to quickly train your RTL's and IOL's. You've taught me lots about OCing, hopefully something here is somewhat useful to you. Keep up the great content!
Grabbed a set of Predator Talos 2x16 3600 16-16-16-36 last week and it's so good, got it to run 1.5V 3800 14-15-14-30 just a few late nights later. TBH 3800C14 itself is not surprising for b-die, but for a $160 2x16GB kit, that's incredible to say the least (it's not yet available in US i'm afraid)
Im sure someone told you, you probably missed the setting, if you disable fast boot in the bios you will actually be able to go to bios like every time, setting is in the same spot as the post delay. SA and VDDQ voltages have been a huge pain for me, extremely sensitive, managed to get gear1 4000c15-15-15-28 with 1.25SA and 1.35VDDQ. Changing either voltage gets me instability. Going tighter on timings needs more SA and VDDQ to even post but I can never get stability. I can post 3800 1T with test bios 0808, super unstable though, didn’t really try to stabilise it, just wanted to see how high 1T would post for me. All on Z690 Strix board, 2x16 bdie, 12900KF. I started with 0803 bios and that suuuuucked, 0707 is good and 0808 seems the same for my hardware. Tried a couple different 2x16 bdie kits, really wanted to hit 4100c15 or 4000c14 but it’s looking like too much effort, maybe I’ll try again in future bios land. Got a single 4x8gb 4000c15 set which wouldn’t even post above 3600. Thanks for the video as always! Keen to see how you go with some high speed micron gear2 if you end up trying.
This was really helpful for me on my ASUS Z690 board with 4 x Rev E SR. The differences are that primaries can't be as tight, tRFC has to be roughly double compared to B-die, I'm concerned with dd rather than dr tertiaries and the WRRD_dd and WRWR_dd need to be 8.
GN: commends ASUS for their well laid out BIOS in sponsor spot. BZ: rants for 1/2 hour about how ASUS BIOS makes no sense. This is why I don't like sponsor spots.
I guarantee I'm not sponsored by ASUS, and I don't disagree with pretty much anything GN's ad roll says about the boards. I haven't seen a BIOS without shortcomings, but it's probably just a matter of what you're used to as long as the features are there.
Can you do some content on 4 stick setups on this board? I’ve got the z690 strix d4 and I’m struggling to go XMP with 64gb of 3600 c14. My kit is B-Die and 4x16.
I am using basically a copy paste of your timings but with 4000mt/s and 1.55Vdimm. Are there any timings besides 1T command rate that have some noticeable impact on latency or throughput? One thing i have to play with is uncore OC because i want to have ecores enabled but this limits uncore OC, so i thought if setting min to like 42 and 45 max would work to have best of both worlds - 4200 when ecores active, 4500 or more when not.
Need some help! I have the Strix-A D4 motherboard which is very similar to the TUFF D4 moherboard. I bought some Corsair 2 x 16GB DDR4 3600 RAM CMN32GXX4M2Z3600C16 so CL16 ram 16 20 20 38 which stated it was Ryzen optimised but also 600 series for Intel. It took ages to get working with multiple boot loops but eventually got it to work with XMP 1 but it is running CL17 at 17 18 20 36 in gear 1 at 1.35v. Any help in getting this to CL16, do I need to increase voltage? Yes totally new to memory overclocking! All sorted after watching your videao with a bit more care!!! Pushed voltage to 1.4 on RAM and put in 16 18 18 36 and it all worked. Pushed Conebench R23 mutlicore score to 31, 268 on my 13700K...will test further.
Hello. I want b die so bad. But I can’t find any 64gb with high MHz. What would you say is the best 64gb ram? I am gaming and streaming so I assume 64 gb is what I need. It’s a beast 12900k/3090 ftw3 hybrid build.
Old vid but I’ll give it a shot . Does using a fresh install of windows give you more accurate Aida latency scores ? I can run the exact same timings on my ASUS board and I’m not where near 45ns latency . Any tips would be great . Also cr1 issue is still present to this day , gigabyte z690 never had an issue with it on the same mem kit but gigabyte still has training 1.5v training bug so it’s okay I guess lol .
Yeah, I bought 2 sets of G Skill Flasre X 3200MHZ CL14 oced it very easily just by enabling docp and bummping the speeds to 3600mhz then adding voltage to my dram 1.47500 with all the same timings except for 1 mine are 14-14-14-28-48 1T rank 1 goodluck folks man I love B-DIE!
I stripped some of the larger surface mounted components off one of my 8GB Viper Steel 4400 dimms by accidentally sticking it in between slots. Still runs the OC flawlessly (640 GFlops Linpack, 2000% MemTest). Could you make a video about what those do? I regularly get a diagnostic LED to stick on cold boot. Goes away after reboot, though. No further issues so far.
Hi, Thanks for the helpful video. I have the same motherboard and ram. I have it running like your setup works great. The only thing is on cpuz the uncore frequency is always at 3600 still and goes up at times when I have it set to 3800 in bios ? Thanks
Hey @Buildzoid, first of all thanks for all the content you out out there! I'm getting a 12700K and I would like to learn memory oc with it. Watched your vids on the motherboards and have that covered, but I have not yet decided on the sticks to get. Would the GSkill F4-3600C16D-32GTZR 16-16-16-36 bdie DR be nice enough to get into the oc game? They go for around 270€ in my country and that's more or less my budget, would greatly appreciate your opinion or advice (other viewers welcome too!) on another kit. Thanks in advance!
Nah man that damn splash screen gets skipped. I used the x570-a pro for like 2 years and that thing regularly skips the splash screen if I restart. Shutdowns are fine however. Only if I hit restart.
Is it possible to run DDR5 downclocked to the point it can be run in Gear 1? Would be interesting to see the impact of the new DDR5 memory bus in as close to a like-for-like comparison as possible with DDR4.
Would this be okay to attempt in a custom loop considering the air is push pull out of the sides of my case for both cpu and gpu or do I still need a dedicated fan
a question. I have four 8gb modules installed, in BIOS it recognizes them, but it only gives me access to 16gb instead of 32... do I have to modify something in BIOS to have access to all 32? even cpuz recognizes all four installed modules. Thank you
You mentioned that Gigabyte can train 1T at 3600 but fails anything above no matter what? Could one of the issues with their bios simply be that it tries to train 1T no matter what? Can't remember which vendor that did just that for a launch previously, but it has happened before so it wouldn't be the first time.
Sorry if you mentioned it somewhere in the video, but which 2x16 GB kit is this? Looks like G.skill Ripjaws, but what is the XMP? Edit: I see as you scroll in the BIOS it's a 3600-14-15-15-35 kit. Nevermind!
That kit seems to be really good overclocking wise. There’s the 14-14-14-34 revised version , but it’s a bit too expensive to be worth for most. 4000cl16 is cool at first glance, but seems to not overclock that well on average and mainly for tighter timings at slightly lower voltage settings.
I'll never understand how people can get such stable overclocks... I overclocked my B-Die Dual Rank G.Skill 3600 16-16-16-36 kit to 3800 16-16-16-28 (1.345V) which is really not a lot, and even tho I have a small 90mm fan pointed *directly* at my sticks length-wise, they sit at ~40°C at idle and can easily go over 50°C when playing Doom Eternal for example. Now my system doesn't start erroring out until ~55°C but everywhere I look on overclocker forums it says: oh be careful with Samsung B-Die, they start erroring out above 32°C when the only time my sticks are at 32°C is just after boot and then much higher the entire time after that... And it's not like my case has no airflow... It's an O11 Dynamic with 6 intake fans and 3 exhaust fans where I painstakingly programmed the fans in such a way, that they're balanced in pulling air in and out of the case. I seriously don't understand it...
There are some truths to Samsung B die losing performance at higher temperatures. However I don't believe it is at only 32C .I live in south east Asia in a hot tropical climate as my country is very near to the equator , ambient temps here are around 27~28C daily. It means I have only 4C above ambient before RAM losing performance, which is ridiculous. I manage to get my 8GB X4 Samsung B die to run on 3800 14-15-13-21-34 at 1.54V with my 12 years old DIY memory cooler . I built using acrylic and 2 units of 40mm fan from a decommissioned 1U server . forum.lowyat.net/uploads//attach-24/post-101024-1594299307.jpg forum.lowyat.net/uploads//attach-24/post-101024-1594299710.jpg
the stability depends on the settings your running and the stick. I have sticks that will do 3600 CL14 all the way to 65C stable. I think those sticks could probably run 3600 CL16 at like 80C.
I just ordered the G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3600MHz 2x16GB (F4-3600C16D-32GTZN) and im on a Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX DDR4 mobo. They are not on the QVL list but I hope they will work anyways.. Edit: Also im on a i7-12700k Any tips for timings or anything else I could do to improve? Also is it true that Gigabyte have now fixed their Bios issues?
dear big brother mine 32gb ddr4 3000mhz kits wd i7 12700 non k isn't overclocking past 3kmhz in this motherboard. seems to crash when i set it at 3.2k or 3.6k mhz. pls help me what do i do im on last December bios version 0807 which supports avx 512
Hey I am kind of new in different mobo’s and overclocking. I have the msi edge z690 and I couldn’t find a vccio voltage anywhere I saw vtt in the bios but it’s high limit is like 1.1 or 1.2. In the past my cpu vccsa was 1.25 and vccio 1.2 to 1.25 so I’m guessing that’s not the setting any info on this you can help me with.
I wanted to see you doing that same overclock in a gigabyte z690. Because it seems to me that her bios are messed up. I can't get past 4600mhz in overclocking with 4133mhz memories from Adata, Micron B die. And even if I lower the times to run at 3900mhz or 4000mhz, no matter the voltage, not safe!
@@SolarianStrike I'm waiting for some update from Gigabyte! I get at 4600mhz with 19-23-23-45 N1 Gear2 1.5v easily. But when I try some value above, it doesn't matter the voltage nor even adjust the primary times I can't boot!
Would anyone here know what would be the best mid-range z690 ddr4 board for Samsung B-die? Or would it be worth getting a higher tier board for B-die? If that's the case which would be a good choice?
Hi @Buildzoid! Thanks so much for this, I'm struggling to get my f4-4000cl15 kits (4x8 so 2 kits) to work on a strix z690 d4 board in G1 at anything higher than 3733Mhz. This might help me on the next time I will try. Surprising for me is the SA voltage. Most posts on different forums suggest setting this to 1.35v as a starting point basically. Also I think VDDQ should be able to go up to 1.54v per intel spec, but don't hold me to it. One question though. Have you done anything with the training algos?
@@pt0x Same Problem with my Strix z690a d4. Maybe it is the cpu imc? (12600k) cant go higher than 3800 in gear 1. Meanwhile a 12900k hits 4200 g1 on this board
I got 4133c15 DR to run at 1.24v SA i thought, until i fired up prime95 large ffts, it required 1.28 to pass that. Also occt 3D works to use the gpu or 3d Mark FS at 8k Resolution.
When I tried overclocking without XMP enabled, I would crash non-stop & get a fuck ton of errors in mem testing. Then again I'm doing DDR4-4000 on a 12700K vs Buildzoid, whose stuck with 3900 on his bad 12900K.

VCCIN_AUX feeds the FIVR
FIVR takes care of VDDQ TX and VCCSA
On DDR4 VDD2 voltage goes to DRAM IC and CPU
DDR5 it's just the CPU as I'm sure you all probably know is fed by the PMIC ( VDD/VDDQ )

Asus Bios is universally rated the best amongst overclockers. Of course it has room for improvement as everything in this life.
For WR on ASUS you should set WRPRE. tWR = tWRPRE - tCWL - 4
Disable Fastboot to put a stop to that. Although, even my z490 Apex will jump straight to the OS with Fastboot, MRC Fastboot disabled on occasion.

It means I have only 4C above ambient before RAM losing performance, which is ridiculous. I manage to get my 8GB X4 Samsung B die to run on 3800 14-15-13-21-34 at 1.54V with my 12 years old DIY memory cooler . I built using acrylic and 2 units of 40mm fan from a decommissioned 1U server .

the stability depends on the settings your running and the stick. I have sticks that will do 3600 CL14 all the way to 65C stable. I think those sticks could probably run 3600 CL16 at like 80C.
You are probably not running them at sub 300 tRFC
I just ordered the G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3600MHz 2x16GB (F4-3600C16D-32GTZN) and im on a Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX DDR4 mobo.
They are not on the QVL list but I hope they will work anyways..
Edit: Also im on a i7-12700k
Any tips for timings or anything else I could do to improve?
DDR5 4800 MHZ CL38 or DDR4 3600 CL16 for gaming?
I like how BZ is using a old as fuck heatsink on a 12900K.
isnt that one of those zalman coolers?
@@ThunderingRoar It is.
@@ThunderingRoar It is a cooler more than 1 decade ago. I guess Buildzoid love retro stuff.
Im missing the IVR transmitter vddq voltage do I have to enable it somewhere?
Interesting result, how is gear 2 overclock with DJR?
I wanted to see you doing that same overclock in a gigabyte z690. Because it seems to me that her bios are messed up. I can't get past 4600mhz in overclocking with 4133mhz memories from Adata, Micron B die. And even if I lower the times to run at 3900mhz or 4000mhz, no matter the voltage, not safe!
He already tried, and not even Buildzoid can defeat the Gigabyte bios Boss.
@@SolarianStrike I'm waiting for some update from Gigabyte! I get at 4600mhz with 19-23-23-45 N1 Gear2 1.5v easily. But when I try some value above, it doesn't matter the voltage nor even adjust the primary times I can't boot!
I got 4400 to boot pretty easily with SR Micron 16Gb rev B on the Z690 Aorus Pro. 4600 on the other hand won't even train.
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking I can't lower the prime times with this Micron B die. Is it characteristic of the memory?
does 12th gen not require tRCD and tRP to be 1:1 on DDR4? kinda neat
it doesn't however not all boards let you set them separately.
Would anyone here know what would be the best mid-range z690 ddr4 board for Samsung B-die? Or would it be worth getting a higher tier board for B-die? If that's the case which would be a good choice?
About time.
Have you done anything with the training algos?
can you run 4000CL16-16-16-36-1N@1.5v /with 1.25V SA?
and do just 2 sticks in slot A2 & B2 run XMP just fine?
@@hidde663 it runs fine @ xmp, also with 4 sticks. But only in G2
@@pt0x with G1 you refer to gear 1? or commandrate 1? also what board do you have? also i recommend: th-cam.com/video/2fCh4hV0ik4/w-d-xo.html
@@hidde663 with G1 I mean Gear 1. I'm using CR2. Also, im on a strix-a z690 d4 with bios 0707
Thanks for the link btw
@@pt0x Same Problem with my Strix z690a d4. Maybe it is the cpu imc? (12600k) cant go higher than 3800 in gear 1. Meanwhile a 12900k hits 4200 g1 on this board
Everytime i try to set secondary timing, the pc wont boot. Wtf
I got 4133c15 DR to run at 1.24v SA i thought, until i fired up prime95 large ffts, it required 1.28 to pass that. Also occt 3D works to use the gpu or 3d Mark FS at 8k Resolution.
how the fuck do you "pass" prime95? did you leave it running for 24 hours or you're just assuming 1 pass means its stable?
@@TheNubaHS considering your language, ill keep you guessing.
Was it using Asus TUF Z690?
Wouldn't the 1:4 ratio be necessary once we get like DDR5-10000 kits?
it probably is but that doesn't change the fact that the performance will be trash.
Ofc. SA voltage helps the cache. WTF :)
WHY WHEN I WRITE ON R/OVERCLOCKING THAT RYZEN DOWNCLOCKS AT 75C THE COMMENT GETS REMOVED
you are overclocking while in XMP mode? ouch. when overclocking ram I disable XMP and run manual mode.
When I tried overclocking without XMP enabled, I would crash non-stop & get a fuck ton of errors in mem testing. Then again I'm doing DDR4-4000 on a 12700K vs Buildzoid, whose stuck with 3900 on his bad 12900K.
Lol! i have the same problem with catchin the boot menu on the
MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 it boots to windows before my monitor turns on.
Lunch the bios from Windows in this case. Best solution i found with my new msi MPG Z690.
On my Strix Z690-A I start pressing delete when numlock turns on. Works every time.
i hv fans at all sides of case .
6 case fans
can you give a link to your desktop Hahahaha its awesome

12900k. I’ve got 4 sticks bdie xmp (4000 1.5v cl15) running at 1.5 4000 14 15 15 32. You think I could get to 4200mhz on 4 sticks or tighten the timings anymore?
for gear1 I'm pretty sure that's maxed out.
Nice! Can you share your settings? I'm running 4000 now at 16-18-18-54 @ 1.4v 4 sticks
Was it using Asus TUF Z690?
asus motherboards are hell for overclocking beginners because Asus bios is extremely confusing
it seems that gigabyte z690 ram issues are fixed, is that true?
No? There haven't been any new BIOS releases. Also the DDR5 boards work A-OK it's the DDR4 boards that are a mess
Do one with an msi board!!
Soon
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking great yo hear that i been stuck on g2 on my z690 edge
